“Relaxing stay at Ocean Pointe”

My family and I spent Spring Break at Ocean Pointe. The unit was quiet despite the resort being so full. The pool scene was okay, but the weather prevented swimming on most days due to the rain and strong winds. The unit is nice but in need of a major renovation. The bathroom cabinet drawers looked like they had been ripped off then super glued back on. As a Vacation Club member I expected better. Great location as it was away from crowds but close enough to local activities. City needs to do something about the beaches here. They have a MAJOR erosion problem. No wading here. The water is immediately 2 feet deep which was really disappointing since we came specifically for the beach.

Marriott has 3 properties on Singer Island & this is their low end offering. The rooms are dated & resemble a tired Fairfield Inn. We were stuck in what was called a studio, but was actually smaller than a cabin we had on a cruise. We were somewhat misled with a Marriott package, but did come to realize we were accepting something different from what we were sold, thinking it could not be that bad. It was that bad. We tried to pay for an upgrade & we did receive a message during our stay that we could upgrade. The call was returned 5 minutes later only to find the upgrade gone. Don't eat the food here even if you can get it for free. Interesting thing with the pool chairs. They have a policy that if you leave a towel on a chair unattended for 45 minutes, it is subject to removal. This is not monitored at all & frankly I understand the difficulty of enforcing the policy. We could have placed our towels out early & secured our poolside chairs for the afternoon, but that we would not be right. Consequently, we never got to sit by the pool. Apparently,the guest here don't have a problem abusing the system. They do rent 2 chairs on the beach for $40. I've never been on a Carnival Cruise, but I believe this is the resort equivalent.
There were some positives: all staff we encountered were nice & friendly. The grounds are spacious & well maintained. However, my advise is that if you have an opportunity to stay here - don't.

If this place enforced the pool rules as strictly as they enforce the no smoking rules, it would be a big plus. Guests reserve chairs at the pool all day by placing towels on them and leave them all day. I watched from our balcony and by 8:30 a.m. you can't find 2 chairs next to each other. This is my 12th year as an owner at this resort and always have the same problem. There should also be a smoking area that is well lit and protected from the elements. I don't think guests (particularly women) should have to stand on the street on a dark rainy night to smoke. No smoking in the garages...I guess someone thinks exhaust fumes are not as dangerous as second hand smoke. Moronic!

my husband and i just treturned form staying the week of 3/15 to 3/22 and this is the 6th year we have used our timeshare to relax at this 5 star resort in our opinion. most of the buildings have been done over in elegant and tasteful manner and we were lucky to have a beautiful efficiency suite on the 5tth floor with views from our balony of the ocean and the pool area. we had wonderful weather and the serv ice is great. one nice addition is that they now serve breakfast on the weekend at the tiki bar outside of the cobia building. i had the best breakfast croissant for only 4.50 . the staff are always friendly and if u have been there beofre and we have an always go the same week during march madness which is great for us as it is like old friends week watching the games. the lobby of the welcome center has changed to a more sedate lobby of a fine hotel and gone are the racks of brochures of what to do and i kind of miss this little feature and also miss the welcome gift that u alwasy got when checking. one thing we didnt miss was the constant calling to see ifwe wanted to take a tour to buy a unit. the last night we were there we didnt want to go out but they had the best salmon dinner that ihad tasted at fine dining restaurants. always accomodating we didnt want the potato they gladly substi uted a nice plate of rice and salad. we trulyenjoyed our last night and the whole week. cant wait to go bck next year. for a truly fine dinig experience try BELLAGIO AT CITY PLACE.

We rented from an owner and were treated poorly because we were not owners. Our assigned unit was described as oceanfront but we could see the garage and trees. The unit was dirty with rusting appliances. The front desk supervisor was not interested in helping us to move to a true waterfront unit. Many issues....this is not a Marriott quality destination. We were very disappointed at the price point we paid for where we stayed.

The resort has nice pools and hot tubs with swings, mini golf, and plenty of activities for everyone. Restaurants and a tiki bar are onsite and in close proximity. The staff was helpful and courteous.
The room was cozy and the bed was very comfortable. I'd imagine the bigger rooms even nicer, especially those with a view. I would gladly stay here again.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the ocean above the 4th floor. You never know, you might just get it.

We are long time platinum time share owners at this resort. Our last visit here was 2 years ago. We had noticed some decline in state of the resort and service. Sadly, after this visit we will not return. Owners have always been contacted sometime before their visit to find out room preferences. In the past, they have done a reasonable job meeting those. This time we were put in the original Sailfish bldg. we had issues with the plumbing, a/c and the general condition of the unit. We had not been in that bldg in a # of years. It had been "renovated" according to the front desk but the quality of materials is far inferior to the original. Furniture, towels, sheets,etc.... Poor.
Staffing is also an issue especially in regards to management and front desk. There were several young people. Be aware that even if you are a platinum owner at the resort, you will be rated by # of weeks owned. The less you own the lower your place. It is a joke that they ask for your requests prior to arrival or even that they will tell that they will try to move you to a requested room while you are there. We spoke to a manager and he had someone else to call us back to inform us we would not be moved. He was suppose to check the following day and we never heard from anyone.
Also, there appeared to be no security around the pool as in the past. as always it was difficult to find chairs, as people put down towels to save them for hours. We remember when security kept an eye out for this and removed the towels if the chairs were not occupied within 45 minutes. The only positives we saw were the staff poolside who organized the kids activities. They were friendly and polite.
