“Wasn't what we were expecting”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2006

We exchanged through RCI. We own @ Mayan Palace and were expecting another Gold Crown resort. The rooms were clean, but our view was of theparking lot. The restraunt was closed and the restraunts within walking distance were bars. To get to a nice restraunt is about a 15 min. drive. The beach was pretty, but they charge for chairs! The pool was very small ( a size of a hotel pool). We will not exchange to here again

This was our second stay at this resort, having stayed there several years ago. We are RCI members, and traded our week to stay here. Chose this resort because a 2 bedroom became available here, which is rare - last time we stayed, had a 1 bedroom. Our unit was wonderful, primarily because we had a corner unit at the very end of the building, overlooking the ocean and the beach. Every window looked out over the ocean, even the side windows. Beautiful view! It was especially nice waking up in the morning, as the master bedroom had a balcony and the first thing you saw in the morning was the ocean. Each bedroom had a king size bed, and the second bedroom had a mini-kitchen with a small refridgerator, micorwave and sink. There was a full kitchen as well in the unit, however, no oven! Just an electric rangetop! I thought that was strange! Furnishings were nice - they were replacing all the couches in the resort while we were there, and our unit already had a new one. The master bathroom was beautiful - very large, lots of wood, and nicely appointed. Maid service came every day to clean the bathrooms, change the towels, empty the garbage, and the sheets were changed once during the 7 days we were there. The grounds were very pretty - small but nice pool with live music during the day. The beach was wonderful, but it cost a lot if you wanted to rent beach chairs and such.

A couple of cons - our unit was a couple floors above the restaurant kitchen, and you could hear the outside vent fans in the master and rear bedrooms all night. Not really loud, but the sound interfeared with the sound of the ocean, which you could hear very well. The hallway carpets need replacing, and we thought it was ridiculous having to pay for the room safe and for parking. I asked the concierge for a restaurant recommendation - I had asked for an inexpensive, kind of hole-in-the wall place the locals go to (that's exactly how I put it), and she sent us to this really fancy, expensive place! It was good, but not what I had asked for.

All in all, a wonderful vacation. The cons weren't enought to keep us away - we do plan to return should another 2 bedroom become available.

I stayed at this hotel for one night and the thought of staying right on the beach was appealing. Unfortunately this place can only be described as an expensive dump. Upon check in I felt pressured to see a model room, since this place is a time share. I thought that was really tacky.

The room itself is spacious but not clean. The bed had old polyester sheets and the pillow covers were dirty. Yik!!

Check out is at 10 but I was gone by 8:30 the next day. I would recommend an RV or tent over this place.

  • Liked — The windows opened and there was a balcony
  • Disliked — Old and dirty polyester sheets and pillow cases
  • Tips/Secrets — Not worth the money but if you want to stay on the beach don't foget to bring your own sheets

I was really frightened after reading some of the reviews and the only reason why we booked with PB Shores is b/c my parents had extra points through timeshare and this was the only resort available.
Pros: Rooms weren't as bad as I thought they would be...good size, clean, enormous bathroom, lots of towels. Beach was nice, too.
Cons: Towels received at pool area were stained and had holes and they were really stingy with how many gross towels they would give you. Apparently, there's always a lack of towels. $6/day for parking when the lot isn't even covered or even that secure, plus there's ample space in the area. The lobby area could use an upgrade...actually most common areas were a bit cheesy and I felt like I was stuck in the 80s. The surrounding area isn't that fantastic. The restaurants around seemed a little dated, so we ate all our meals in Palm Beach and did most of our activities there, as well. It was much nicer. We got roped into a presentation and our lady was CRAZY...like certifiably nuts. She was demeaning to us (we are in our late 20s and minorities) and she made some sort of racist joke that I didn't think was very funny. She also just sort of assumed we were really poor, which is kind of a strange assumption to make for an old lady who sells timeshare towards two people she knows are wall st bankers living in manhattan. Just cuz we're not ready to enter our 50s and buy timeshare doesn't mean we're dirt poor. Our breakfast conversation was about how she thinks the government conspired 9/11. The whole experience was really strange and unpleasant, at best.

It can be a pleasant stay if you ignore the lobby, bring your own beach towels, and steer clear of any presentation gimmicks.

  • Liked — Decent rooms
  • Disliked — Crazy timeshare saleslady; disgusting beach towels; $6/day parking $1/day room safe

Just finished a great week at this resort. We bought it resale and had never stayed there, and we were pleasantly suprised. The resort turned out to be everything we could want. We had to exchange for a different week this year, which was done through Platinum Interchange. The exchange process with them was flawless, and I can highly recommend them.

Check-in was easy and fast, even though we arrived around midnight. All the staff that we ran into were super friendly. The room was perfect for the 2 of us. Small but well equipped kitchen area included a 2 burner cooktop, fridge, convection/microwave combo oven, and a dishwasher. Kitchen had every utensil you could need. As mentioned previously, the bathroom is huge, with a separate shower and tub. We had a top floor room with a fabulous view of the pool area and the ocean. King size bed was comfy. The main area of the unit had a glass table/breakfast nook, and the usual couch, chair, table, entertainment center setup. The balcony was great for a nightcap or that first cup of coffee in the morning. The unit was very clean, and seemed to be very well maintained. Only room complaint was the lockoff doors could use some more sound insulation. It was never a problem, but you could occassionally hear the clanking of dishes from the other kitchen. Parking was no problem, there was valet available, but plenty of self parking also. Note that owners do not have to pay the parking fee. And yep, the elevators are slow, but hey, I'm on vacation, no need to be in a rush!

The beach access is great, and the beach was very clean, and very wide. Some have commented about having to pay for beach chairs, but that is the norm in FL. We've stayed at a bunch of beach front resorts on the Atlantic coast, and the beach chairs are always rentals owned by another company, so we're used to it and no complaint there. Pool was clean and comfortable, never had a problem getting lounge chairs. Live entertainment each afternoon made for a great "island feel" at the pool. The spa at the resort was also very good, had a great massage the last day there. For divers, there is a great dive shop within walking distance that runs charters, and also has tanks available for shore dives. There is a great shore dive about 5 minutes from the resort at the base of the Blue Heron bridge. Shallow dive, but tons of marine life.

The only drawback was that the restaurant is closed. Never did find out why or when they expected something to reopen, though from previous reviewers, it may be for the better! The tiki bar was open though, and we enjoyed several nights poolside with other vacationers. Since the restaurant wasn't open, they are offering 10% discounts at 3 restaurants within walking distance of the resort. We had dinner at Jonny Longboats (one of the three), and while nothing fancy, had very good food. We also enjoyed NFL Sunday at nearby Portofino's (also walking distance) with their multitude of TV's showing every NFL game. Something about watching football in an open air bar across the street from the beach! For other restaurants and activities, we highly recommend Capt. Charlies Reef Grill in Juno, and also the Thursday night Clematis St. festival in downtown.

All in all, we had a great time at this resort, and can't wait to get back!

decent place. the beach is nice. the accomodations are decent for the average traveler. the pool is too small for a hotel this size. i would never pay the full rates for regular hotel stay. it's way too expensive. the marriot down the street is far better. of course, you don't get the kitchen there though.

no wi-fi, but nowadays you can get it anywhere near some shopping place or even at the Sailfish Marina.

no one participates in those cheesy club activities. the facilites in general has a feeling of slight un-cleaniness. i'd rate it as a 3 star resort.

Ernesto was a bust, but the hotel gave us a flashlight and a gallon of water to prepare. they gave us some handouts of what to expect, etc. if you are a quiet, do your own thing traveler like me, it's a average to decent place for timeshare, but surely not for regular rates.

Prior to staying at Palm Beach, we stayed for a week in Kissimmee at the Sheraton Vistana Villages (not the resort)
This was clearly paradise. Two big pools. The main one had the waterfalls. The one bedroom was huge and brand new.....Then we left to Palm Beach Shores...What a mistake! We wanted to get to a beach resort for the second week. As soon as we arrived i knew i would regret it. There was a police officer right at the entrance (which stayed all week). Front Desk personnel had no smiles to offer. We went to our room and ther it all started. The safe was a $1.00/day mandatory charge. The parking also had a mandatory $6.00/ day charge. The room was very small and they called it a Suite. My children slept with us because the sofabed matress was sinking in the middle. I complaint and they told me it was one of the newer sofabeds. You could hear the conversation of the people next door as if they were in the room with us. My view was a construction of another resort. I went downstairs to ask for another room and they didnt even try to make an attempt to offer anything else. We went to the pool. This pool was very small for such a larger complex. The chlorine was exceptionally strong. We were not allowed to do anything in the pool. We were playing with a small splash ball and they said they dont allow "any ball playing of any kind in the pool." Meanwhile they had pool volleyball everyday to which the adults played very rough while there were children in the pool. When i asked for pool/beach towels they always told us to hold on to them for the entire day because they were very limited. Everything had a high price. Beach chairs $30/day, umbrella $15/day, cabana 50$/day. Childrens playroom was $10/hr. The resort was on one side of a bridge. If you went to the other side of the bridge, you had to be very cautious. It was clearly unsafe. This is not a town for your children. A resort that writes on theri welcome letter. Leave your personal belongings in the safe. Dont bring them to the beach" is in no way a Crown Resort... We will not be returning...
