“The Beautiful Breakers Resort Hotel”
Reviewed July 8, 2014

The Breakers Resort Hotel is an absolutely gorgeous upscale resort hotel. You honestly would never have to leave the property because there is so much to do. The rooms are clean, beautiful and well appointed. We had an ocean front room which was well worth the price. If you are going to a resort like this you really want to experience the best it has to offer. The resort grounds are stunning. They have a beautiful spa, which we gifted a spa experience to my husband for Father's Day.
They have 5 different types of swimming pools. A lap pool and hot tub are the first you see as you walk into the pool area. You must have your resort key card with you as they have security that checks to make sure that you are a guest of the hotel. The next pool is a large olympic size pool that is for adults and older teens. We spent a day or 2 at that pool which was lovely. The next pool is a small wading pool for young children and then there is a low entry beach like pool for families with young children. Our children are teens so we spent our time at the final pool which is for adults and older teens. It is a quiet cabana area and is lined with palms and pergolas. There is a casual restaurant near the family pool that is very good. Outside the servers will come around and take drink and food orders. There is a Tiki Bar located in the pool area as well. It is closest to the Cabana pool area. They have cold lemon infused cold water at gazebos near the pool that you can get at your leisure. The beach area sits just below the pool area. The beach is narrow and does have chairs/umbrellas. It is a rather stone filled beach along the shoreline especially. But with a chair you would be fine. The water is relatively crystal blue. We chose to spend our time at the pool area but did take walks along the shoreline. Anyone on the East coast knows that the beaches get more blue the farther South you go. The staff and Concierge were very friendly and accommodating. There is a gorgeous bar inside the hotel as well as the most beautiful restaurant call The Circle with domed painted ceiling. Be sure to have the breakfast buffet. The Italian restaurant was very good and if you have young children probably your best choice. They have a supervised play area inside and it is enclosed with windows so you and other diners can enjoy dinner while the kids play after they've finished dinner. They also have outdoor seating.
For families with young children they have a lot of activities and day camps. They even have a couple of turtles that the kids can help feed. There is a small basketball court, you can play tennis or golf. Also The Flagler Steak House and golf course is across the street. You can easily walk to both. Palm Beach itself is a beautiful place to explore. Try some of the local restaurants and take a drive to look at the beautiful homes. There is lots of shopping as well. The Breakers is and will remain one of our favorite resorts and we can't wait to return.

We just returned from a week at the Breakers. We traveled with older teens. In a nutshell, the Breakers is an outstanding place; the destination, however, was not a family favorite. First, I will tell you everything we loved about the hotel. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The lobbies, restaurants, pools and rooms are lovely. It is a treat to simply walk around the grounds. Really, everything is stunning. I was concerned our rooms might be too small and outdated. However, they were roomy with comfortable beds, dreamy linens and very nice bathrooms. The decor reminded me of the Ritz in Chicago - beautiful. You do need two rooms with a family as the double rooms have double beds and not queens. Our rooms adjoined and this worked well. We had partial ocean view rooms. The rooms have windows, not balconies, that overlook the center court and the ocean beyond. Our summer rate included breakfast and it was wonderful. Breakfast was served at both the poolside restaurant and in the historic, grand round dining room. They served eggs benedict, fruit, danish, yogurts, meats, omelette station, fresh squeezed juice and much more. It was a treat. We ate at the very cool HMF restaurant on several occasions. We felt the food here was the best of the restaurants (there are at least 5). The restaurant feels like a set out of Gatsby with the servers, music and decor out of the twenties. Speaking of servers, the servers at the Breakers are All World. You begin to feel like royalty or someone famous. Everyone from housekeeping to front desk is kind and accommodating. How do I know this? Because I felt like I had made many new friends by the time I left. Also, because I witnessed them enduring rants from demanding guests and indulged travelers. (More about that later.) The pools, at least four, are beautiful with comfy chairs and umbrellas. There is no eating by the pool which I appreciated. There are, however, two restaurants steps from the pool where you can eat lunch in a cover up. We used the hot tubs at night and we were the only ones out. The hotel sits right next to the ocean. The pools look over the very small beach. The view from the pool is breathtaking. The beach, however, is not. We are used to the beaches on the gulf with white sand and miles to walk each morning. The beach here is typical of the east coast. The guys in our group did snorkel out to the sunken reef. Although the water was murky, they saw many fish and had a good time. They also golfed and liked the course. It is tight and short, but of course, lovely. My son golfs on the high school golf team and he thought the course was very fun. During the summer, there are great golf deals to check out. We rented bikes and biked the trails. I highly recommend the historic bike tour or just getting the map and riding for a few hours. You ride along the ocean and see some spectacular homes. While Worth Avenue is a bit of a walk, we walked there every day. we shopped a little, ate at a few restaurants and explored. If you turn left out of the hotel, turn left again at the church, you can then turn right at the ocean and walk along the sidewalk all the way to Worth. It is a pretty walk. Right after Worth is Charlie's Crab. Here is a tip. They have an awesome Happy Hour with ahi tuna, fish tacos and much more. It looks directly at the ocean. We loved this spot. Another great restaurant is the Leopard Lounge. I review that too. So good!
So, why the funny title? We did not love Palm Beach. We like to relax on vacation at the beach. We usually go to Marco Island, Naples or Fort Myers. Palm Beach is "fancy" as my daughter said when we drove over the bridge. That is why people come here and why they love it. For our family with teenagers, it was a little too fancy. We visited over the busy Fourth of July weekend and it did not feel very relaxed. While there are loads of gorgeous spots to rest and recline, there is a constant flurry of activity. The hotel is ideal for couples escaping for a romantic weekend or families with young kids who welcome kid's club and kid's activities. But for families who are used to playing on the beach all day and riding bikes into beachy towns for dinner, this is something different. One other bummer for our family was not the fault of the hotel, but of the hotel visitors. On several occasions we witnessed guests being rude to the wonderful staff. Twice, we overheard guests yelling at check in. Occasionally, we heard guests being demanding and rude at breakfast and at the pool. I suspect that when a person pays a large amount of money for a hotel room they feel entitled to be demanding and demeaning. Unfortunately, they put a damper on our experience. In all of these encounters, the staff bent over backward to please the guest. The Breakers staff are outstanding. We came here for my son's high school graduation present. He wanted to go somewhere where he could play golf, sit by a pool and eat nice dinners. He loved the Breakers! The rest of us were wowed by the beautiful Breakers and had a wonderful vacation, but prefer the laid back gulf towns.

WE were very upset at our stay at the the Breakers July 4th. The hotel was a madhouse of overbooked rooms, pool and beach and long waiting lines for breakfast. We wanted rest and got chaos on steroids. The stay was no different then staying at a cheap disney resort. The only comfort was the room which was very nice.

Definitely pricey, but one of those special places everyone needs to experience once. Worth the price just to walk around the historic property. Service is outstanding and rooms are lovely with very comfortable beds and luxurious linens.

As a few others have pointed out the Breakers is not a "bargain" per se, but it is old world class and charm to the nines. We stayed on the "Flagler Level" and everything from the food to the concierge service was delightful. The homemade cookies were a special treat!
The tapas spot is great fun and outstanding people watching. The seafood bar is great fun (the bar is a glass aquarium). We will most definitely spend more time at the Breakers!

Room Tip: Try their club level - it is worth it!

My husband surprised me for our anniversary. We have always wanted to stay here but just could not justify spending the money for a night ,but they have a great dealing going for out of season and let me tell you we've experienced such a high class of accommodation, staff, pool area, Flagler Steakhouse and just the sheer beauty of the resort itself we are sold and we'll visit even off season!!!!!

The Breakers continues to be my choice in Palm Beach that comes at a price, but is well worth it. Within a short drive to Miami, close proximity to City Place in West Palm Beach, Worth Ave shopping, and PBI, the location could not be more convenient. The resort pools and private beach allow for plenty of space and activities with areas for families or for adults only. I prefer the family pool as there is background music, but the adult pool is also quite nice with both facing the Atlantic. Food at the pool is basic poolside fare and service could be better, but June is off season. I had breakfast in the circle room which is included in the room rate and offers a buffet style meal that exceeds all expectations. Every breakfast desire is available so there is no reason to order from the menu and pay extra. Dinner was in The Seafood Bar which offers a perfect casual dinner. Food and drinks are quite good with the bacon infused Bloody Mary a favorite. HMF is a great way to end with a nightcap, or two. The beachfront corner suite was worth the expense and waking up to the sunrise and ocean views is unbeatable! The room was meticulously cleaned every day and offers a comfortable bedroom and sitting area with a large closet with drawers for plenty of storage. Things to remember; you are charged for everything. Valet parking is $25 for one minute or one day so if just dropping off tell the valet and they will side park your vehicle for no charge. (a tip of course is in order) For the expense The Breakers offers a truly special resort with beautiful grounds, amenities, food, drink, and accommodations.

Room Tip: Choose the oceanfront suite for the perfect views!
