Four Seasons Resort, Palm Beach
Ranked #1 of 10 Hotels in Palm Beach
Certificate of Excellence

We stayed at the Four Seasons Palm Beach for one week with our children, ages six and almost five. Overall, this is a GREAT hotel for families. If my husband and I had been traveling as a couple, looking for a romantic getaway, this would NOT have been the place. There are literally tons of kids here (which was great for our kids). The Kids For All Seasons Club is superb--wonderful staff, and it's included in your stay. At other places like The Breakers and The Ritz Carlton, there is a very high fee for the Kids Clubs. We found the Four Seasons to be much smaller and more manageable than either the Ritz or Breakers. Plus, the value is much better at the Four Seasons than at the Ritz or Breakers. For example, everything on the Childrens Menu at the Four Seasons is $5 or $6. At the Breakers (where we ate), the Childrens Menu had prices like $18 and $19. The beach is wonderful, the hotel has a lovely, upscale atmosphere. The food was decent (not amazing, but perfectly fine). The staff goes out of their way for kids. My two complaints: the rooms (we had two connecting rooms) are on the small side. If you are traveling with children, I don't see how a family of four could manage in one room. My other complaint is that we made our reservations six months in advance. Despite this, we were given a room directly over the beach bar restaurant and so were exposed to the rattle of dishes and the chatter of staff. When I inquired about switching, we were told our only option was the same room, one flight up, which would not have solved our problem. Plus, it's a big pain to unpack with two children, and switch rooms, so we didn't make the move. I did write a note to the manager about it, when we checked out and he was nice enough to email me back and say that if we returned, he would take care of us personally. The pool here is on the small size for a hotel of this size, but with the beautiful beach, we didn't really mind. I thought the concierge staff were perfectly nice, but actually a little on the cold side. They could use a little warming up. One last comment: be prepared to tip constantly. If the pool staff sets up towels for you, it's pretty much expected that you give $5. If the beach staff puts up an umbrella for you, you tip $5 again. We tipped $10 per room, per day (so at the end, our housekeeping tip was $140). We tipped the Kids for All Seasons staff a total of $300, to be divided among them. We tipped the concierge $40 (at the end of our stay in an envelope with a thank you note) for arranging 2 restaurant reservations and two nights of babysitting. But overall, this seems like the best option for families when visiting Palm Beach. The Breakers is too big, and too price-gouging. The Ritz seems a little run down and right next to an iffy-looking public beach. Stay at the Four Seasons for a very, very good family vacation.

We recently stayed at this property and really enjoyed our experience. We spent our first two days at the pool where the staff moved our umbrella many times throughout the day to keep us shaded. We had exceptional service on both days from Rodalpho and James which both where completely unobtrusive yet there. The food was also above average although we felt the drinks were a bit overpriced -especially when you see the bartender pouring some mix out of a carton. Overall a great stay and will be back!

We have stayed at this hotel multiple times over winter and spring breaks. Overall, it is one of our favorite beach resorts for our family. We have 3 kids 2, 6 and 8. I can understand, however, how this hotel gets mixed reviews on this board. The hotel is perfect for a family that wants a luxurious, boutique hotel directly on the beach. The kids club is fantastic, rooms are very nice and food is good. During school vacations the hotel has a significant number of kids. Stay away at these times if you do not want to hear or see kids. The service at the pool needs improvement. They try and bring the typical four seasons pool service, but at times it was slow and very limited. The beach is excellent. The two restaurant are very good, but I would like them to offer some type of cafe that would offer sandwiches, coffee, ice cream etc. If management is reading this, check out the cafe at the ritz Dana point for some ideas. That was a great beach hotel cafe.

Overall, we love this hotel and would be back. If you want nightlife, super luxury or a mega resort, this is not the place for you.

This is our third time coming here with our children, ages 6 and 4 during their spring break. They have redecorated the rooms, making them ligther and airier, and they are quite nice. The connecting rooms are configured well with a common hallway leading to the main door so that it has a suite feel, even though there is no real common area.

We have seen the same staff here year after year and thats nice, though some familiar faces were missing and some new ones were there. They clearly remembered us, and this gives the impression of coming home.

I must say that the service totally fell apart on more than one occasion. At a 5 star resort at this price point, they shouldn't have to comp meals repeatedly because of poor service. I don't mind getting comped here and there, but let it be because they appreciate the fact that we return year after year and our repeat business...not because they cannot manage the flow of guests in their restaraunt, or because they miscommunicate an order and forget a meal, leading one member of a party to eat 30 minutes after the others have finished their meals. They appologized, acknowledged that there was no excuse, comped the meal, but quite frankly, we didn't chose the Four Seasons to save money, we expected consistently excellent service, which The Four Seasons usually delivers in spades.

They previously had a buffet breakfast, which certainly helped their speed and this shoud clearly be reinstated. It was present every day during our 9 day stay last year, and only once during our 7 day stay this year.

I had the sense that they cut back on staff and services, but the price of the rooms did not seem to be discounted ($795 per room).

That said, most staff were exceptional, with a few duds. The pool is pleasant and very family friendly. They sure know how to treat kids at the Four Seasons!
The gym is decent with multiple treadmills, elipticals, a bicycle or two, and several weight machines.

They loan bicycles free of charge. They have the usual Evian spritzers, complementary frozen grapes, gaspacho tastes, and smoothies at the pool side.

In short, this is a fine resort, worthy of the 5 star designation, but treading on thin ice. If they don't get their staff (numerically) up, they will not be able to maintain their reputation.

In summary, we were disappointed with this particular Four Seasons experience. The service was poor and the staff unhelpful. We found out more about the hotel / amenities and area through the spa professionals than we did in-room literature or or concierge. The dining options are limited and the food quality poor. We visited the luxury hotels near by and will be staying at one of those next time we are in Palm Beach.
