“Consistantly Good”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Ate here at lunchtime today and again the food was tremendous. I had "home made" mushroom soup followed by a beef curry. The wifey had the spicey beef starter followed by a prawn dish. All the food was extremely tasty, served in ample portions. We could not fault it in any way.
We eat out at least once a week and like to try different places but we keep on returning here as we both know that there is a great selection of food which is always cooked to perfection.
The staff are also a credit to the place as they are ALL pleasant, polite and helpful.

“Excellent Thai food in a busy country pub!”
Reviewed February 1, 2013 via mobile

The Blackwell Ox has earned an enviable reputation amongst locals for its excellent authentic Thai cuisine, and it's obvious why.

The restaurant is within in a country pub within easy travelling distance of Middlesbrough. The car park is capacious, but often quite busy, as this is a very popular place to eat.

The pub itself is a little tired-looking, but that shouldn't significantly detract from the overall experience. There is ample seating within, and despite its popularity, there is rarely much of a wait to find a table.

On the menu is an impressive range of Thai dishes, and each is well described and rated according to spiciness. Additionally, there is a selection of traditional pub fare and a children's menu. Orders are placed at the bar, so take note if your table number!

For starter, I've always favoured one of the Thai soups, which are clear soups with chunky pieces of meat, lemon grass, peppers and flavoured with chilli. There is a choice of a bread roll or rice as an accompaniment, and they're very filling. Each one I've had has been superb!

You will be spoilt for choice for main courses, but be assured that the meat will be succulent and delicious, the vegetables will be perfectly prepared and the presentation will induce spontaneous salivation!

The atmosphere at the Blackwell Ox is relaxed, congenial and homely, and the staff are correspondingly convivial.

Expect to pay around £50 for a three-course meal with drinks, which is wonderful value considering the quality of the meals.

All-in-all, the Blackwell Ox is a great place for an informal and delicious dinner, which I'd have no hesitation in recommending.

“One of the nicest places to eat in the area!”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

If you want tasty, authentic Thai food then this is the place to go. It's hard to find nice places to eat around here so the blackwell ox is a favourite. The food is always gorgeous and although its always busy - the little wait is worth it once you're food comes. Portions are generous, never had a bad experience!

“Gorgeous Thai Cuisine - Love this place!”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

I first discovered this place around 3 years ago and have to say it is definately one of my favourite places to eat in the North East!
The pub offers a very wide selction of authentic thai dishes as well as a few carefully selected english dishes. My favourite dish has to be the Panang Duck Curry with fried rice, however the menu is so vast that even if you think you don't like Thai food there is something for everyone. The bar serves a couple of hand pull ales and black sheep is always on so thats fine by me!

There is also a childrens menu and gorgeous traditional british puddings like sticky toffee pud, crumble, fudge cake etc which is all equally gorgeous.

I would definately reccomend this place, the food is amazing and is cooked by thai chefs. The staff are always very efficient and proffessional and the pub itself is so cosy - find a nice seat near the open fire! If you can I would say go for the happy hour lunch and teatime deal - check the website for details, as alll thai main courses are reduced so you can really indulge at a fraction of the cost.

Perfect!
