“it's worth checking this one out”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

As other reviewers have noted, this hotel is under renovation and it's worthwhile to request a renovated room. I did that and was extremely pleased with the comfort and cleanliness of the room and the friendliness and helpfulness of every single staff member that i met. After checking in i was greeted by name by the manager whenever i went into the office, an indication to me that they're bending over backwards to renovate the image of the old hotel as well as the building. The heating/AC system in the room was new, very quiet, and had a remote control. The tile floors were very clean (also a bit slippery). Beds very comfortable with good quality linens (altho towels were the quality that make you not want to steal them :-) Adequate number of electric outlets for the modern vacationer. Mini-fridge and new small microwave.
The pool was very clean and goes rapidly from 3 1/2 foot to 8 foot depth, but has some small surface areas that need repair. The small continental breakfast contained healthy options. Brewed coffee, including decaf, was available in the office all day, as was cold drinking water. Free loaner beach chairs, bikes, water toys are another indication of the thoughtfulness being brought by the new owners.

That said, this is not the Hilton. If you want to stay at a 4 or 5 star hotel where you're not aware that you're at the beach, travel south down the beach a few blocks. And there are some drawbacks and some work yet to be done. In my first floor oceanfront room the sliding glass door was difficult to slide all the way open: it got stuck halfway and needed a vigorous push.
The walls were kind of thin and i could hear the every word when the next door neighbors were speaking loudly. There was no security chain or bar on the room door. The courtyard area hasn't been worked on yet and can use some sprucing up. I didn't have occasion to use the elevator but it seems small.

Overall I was very impressed and will definitely go back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that's alreay been renovated. And the oceanfront views are magnificent.

Beyond the recently installed fire doors Makai Lodge ??? Resort ?? is a a nightmare and a health and safety hazard. I wonder about the '5 star' comments I wonder about the
health regulators I wonder about zoning enforcement for the town of Ormond Beach.
(Hotels .com and their thruway booklets probably brings in enough transient travelers.)
Shame on Hotels.com shame on the hotel owners shame on the city of Ormond beach.
(Maybe it is too much to expect of a town that permits vehicles to drive along the beach.)

A one late night night stop and one night too many... third world
Astonished one year later this place still operational & with good reviews.... not credible.

We stayed in the newly renovated Lodge-it was VERY NICE! NO ELEVATORS though. (only 2 floors) but having knee problems.....it was a bit rough doing the stairs. Other than that it was AWESOME! Nice and clean, very family oriented! Fun spot has free loan of surf boards, bikes, boogie boards, floats, chairs umbrellas, everything you can think of! They also provide towels for the beach and pool. They have several grills with thatch covered umbrellas near the grills with picnic tables. The staff were fantastic-from Tristan (who booked for me)--to steve at check in and William who ALWAYS seemed to be there and ready to help! We will be going back next year for sure!

Room Tip: No elevator in the "Lodge" if you have climbing/walking issues-steer clear from that area...

The Makai Beach Lodge was the ideal place to spend a fun filled, relaxing, and unforgettable weekend. The rooms were extremely clean especially the kitchens and bathrooms. The staff was also very helpful always on call and willing to help 24/7. I personally cannot wait until next time I visit this amazing hotel!

Room Tip: Stay here!

this was my first time ever staying @ this hotel...The hotel's i am most familiar with to stay at were all booked up already so i had no choice to find another 1 & stay so this was the 1. we arrived on a Friday & the price was reasonable but not as reasonable as the other places i am use to staying at & this 1 did not even have the full kitchen's like the other 1 i stay at & this 1 cost more than the other 1. anyway all & all we made the best of it & stayed. we were getting settled in & the room's are joining & we were alone so we did not need to share the joining door. we were putting are stuff in place & my cousin noticed in the corner of her eye that the joining door opened & there was a boy & his drunk dad coming into our room. my cousin then went to the door & called my husband to the door with her & the father slammed the door on my husband whom is a terminal ill hospice patient @ home & the guy hit his shoulder with the door & we reported it to the front desk & no on did anything about it but compfort the other people by moving them to pool side ocean front room...we were in a ocean front room too but here this man is acting out in his drunk way & entered our room like that & his son & they get a pat on the back for it..WRONG!!!! so the manager came in on monday & my cousin was told to tell him when he come in & see what he wanted to do about it & the lady @ the front desk done told us we should get a late 3:00 check out or 1 free night..we got 1 hour late check out..wow!! how fast a hour goes by, so we loaded & left..so needless to say we will not be back to this place again...other than that happening & ruined our time because the drunk father told us we better sleep with our doors locked..hello that's a threat!!!! we should of called the cops is what we should have done but we were trying to let the staff handle it like they shold have but didn't. so that's about all i have to say about this place...it's not bad as far as the rooms go & it's like the saying goes..you get what you pay for.

Not sure about these bad reviews as you get what you pay for. At a great price for these rooms they are satisfactory. PROS: comfortable beds, lot's of pillows, connecting rooms, right on the beach, free rental of beach items, friendly staff, new TV's and great air conditioning systems in the rooms, check-out is 11:00 a.m., close to food and shopping. CONS: Room was dusty, outside is outdated, pool closes at DUSK!?!?, furniture is dated, pool need to be redone as there were chunks missing in little spots, kept getting kicked out of the free wifi and having to sign back in. We would stay here again when wanting a beach view on a budget.

Room Tip: 312-314 are good rooms

June 28-July5- New remodeled and updated room was awesome!. I was there 12 nights and every sinlge night was perfect. I was even there during TS Debby. I enjoyed watching the ocean put on a show during the storm. New tile floor, new beds, new pillows and bed spreads. Pool was spotless the entire time there. Front desk clerks were super sweet and the maid service was awesome and kept my room very clean. I can not wait until next year. We had 5 rooms totals and NO problem with any of them. Thank you new owner!!!!
