“Great for canoeing!”
Reviewed December 25, 2009

My friend and I did not camp or hike, we only rented a canoe. The staff was really nice at the rental place (which I think is independently owned and operated than the actual Park). Anyway, the lady who rented us our gear & boat was really cool and we had a great time. In fact, one of the Ranger-type guys, maybe he worked there I don't know, pointed out a manatee air bubble before we got in our boat and showed us how to spot them! I thought that was super cool & friendly. We had an amazing afternoon. :0)

“Nice park with not so nice staff”
Reviewed February 2, 2009

The park is very nice, clean facilities but the rangers give mixed messages and change their policies as they go which seriously affect your plans. Were told not to do something where as the day before it was completely ok yet other campers were not given the same info. Rangers handled conversations with very little tact and threatening agression. Definately will not stay there again.

“Hateful Park Ranger - The Fun Police”
Reviewed February 1, 2009

The park is nice, very woodsy. The park ranger called "The Fun Police" by other campers were extremely arrogant and hateful, some other campers told us the fun police will stop anyone enjoying themselves and they did. Will never stay there again.

“December 2007 3 night 4 day weekend”
Reviewed December 25, 2007

Pros: Hot showers, nice fishing spots, canoe & boat rentals, camp store (not open on Mondays), plenty of picnic space, cool little nature trail (Bring bug spray on trail, they are vicious little suckers!), nice staff, close to beaches, firewood, woodsy.

Cons: Sites are too close together, we felt uncomfortable on the second night, when our neighbors arrived and watched TV until 10 pm. Forget the fact of why on earth someone would bring a TV camping, they kept the volume pretty moderate, but the sites are so close together that any neighbors, even quiet ones, are too close for comfort.

The road runs just behind the campsites making them noisy and taking away any feeling that you may be "away from it all".

If you are doing tent camping, be prepared for an uncomfortable sleepless night. This is because the ground for the tentspace is the farthest thing from being leveled, thus, the mattress will adjust to the ground below providing for an achy back the next morning.

I give it a four out of five simply because if you look for the right site(with level ground), bring bugspray on the trail (and citronella candles for the campsite), and find a spot away from the road and not too close to neighbors, you will have a fantastic time.

My personal experience, however, was a 3 out of 5. Hope this helps!
