I went to Disney World at ages 6, 12, and 25 and have enjoyed it more every time! I really like Hollywood Studios (I didn't even know they changed the name from MGM!). In my opinion there is a little more to do here for older kids, although all the parks are great for all ages. I personally love the old time-y feel to this park, but it is smaller and can get a little more cramped.
Some of the best rides include Star Tours, Tower of Terror, and Rockin Roller Coaster (fastest roller coaster I have been on!!) and these are better for the older kids who like a little more thrill although on Tower of Terror I did sit next to a tiny, adorable boy about 5 years old who loved the ride and had been on it six times that day!
There are great shows here including my favorite Indiana Jones. Fantasmic night show is awesome and was our favorite night show of the trip. You actually have seats in an outdoor amphitheater so get in line ahead of time during busy months (we went in January so this was not an issue). There is also a really great Walt Disney museum we really enjoyed!
Our only mishaps: trying to go on the back lot ride (which is really fun but 30 mins long) We didn't realize it closes at dark as it is mainly outside and they don't have lights for it, so in winter months that ride is closed pretty early. We went to the stunt show and had to wait about 25 minutes past the start time as they had some technical difficulties. We ended up not really being into the show as it was mainly car stunts (which I know a lot of people love so if you are into that stuff definitely go to this show!). We left early in order to do something else.
We ate at the 50s restaurant which is really fun! Its funny when the server "yells" at you to set the table and eat your veggies in their 50s parenting character!
If your kids are into Star Wars there is a really neat Jedi training camp for kids (I'm 25 and would have loved it)! They get to do a little demonstration with characters from the movie right outside the Star Tours ride and it looked really fun however the classes book up fast so reserve a spot way ahead. There are many great shops and we really enjoyed being there at night during the extra magic hours.
Quick tip: if you love Rockin' Roller Coaster and want to get in an extra ride at the end of the day, make a mad dash out of Fantasmic (avoid the stroller mob) and go directly across to Rockin Roller Coaster (like we did) and you will likely have a very short wait. We had a five minute wait, but the wait was up to 50 minutes when we got off the ride as all the slow pokes (lol) from Fantasmic got in line too! You could also time a fast pass for Tower of Terror to get on after the show (ToT is also by Fantasmic)--run to Rockin' with no fast pass, and then go directly to ToT with your fast pass!
