The Animal Kingdom is to be savored, and there are so many opportunities to wander off the beaten path just to watch for exotic species and to just absorb the environment. Part of our rules for Disney include to Always Plan For Lunch. We like to to sit down for table service, and this is really the only option in the AK. The food we had was serviceable, filling (lo mein), and good value (portions were pretty big), but the main bonus is being able to get a libations when you are needing a little down time. Reservations are a must- this is important for planning- because this is the only table service we found in the AK.
Also: Expedition Everest is AWESOME! and it is such a smooth ride you can even ride it after lunch!

I was getting so tired of feeding my kids from the usual kids' menu where french fries is considered a vegetable. Our family had a good meal here. We didn't have a reservation, but we were surprised to get a seat after 15 minutes. If it weren't on Disney grounds, I might have given a lower star (maybe a 4), but since it is on Disney grounds, as a theme park restaurant, I gave it a 5.

waited an hour to get a table but was worth the wait. Had the bourbon chicken and it was delicious.

. . . and the decor is very authentic, very nice atmosphere. But the food is absolutely nothing special. There is exactly one vegetarian entree, a lo mein, which I have often enjoyed in other Asian restuarants. Their lo mein is quite bland, no panache, no pizazz, no mushrooms, no hot peppers, no detectable ginger. My companions had the crispy honeyed chicken, which was reportedly not as good as what she normally got at the Chinese take-out up the street - for one third the price - and the burger with compote, which was judged at least better than the French fries, which were undercooked and flaccid. The coup de disgrace, though, was the "Chai Tea", which was absolutely indistinguishable from ordinary black tea. If you have never had Chai tea before, don't make this your first experience, it will be a disappointment. If you have had Chai tea before, don't make this your next experience, it will be a disappointment.

In sum, I regret that we didn't opt for street food in the relative non-swelter of a warm April day.

We always get the Deluxe Dining Plan and we love it. There's only two table service restaurants at Animal Kingdom that take the dining plan. Tusker House is a buffet and we're not huge fans of buffets. The Rainforest Cafe no longer takes the dining plan. We thought we'd try Yak and Yeti and we enjoyed it very much. The potstickers are awesome--probably the best at Disney, even better than Nine Dragons Restaurant which is another of our favorites. Yak & Yeti had both Asian and Indian influenced dishes. My husband had a seafood stew with cocoanut milk and he loved it. The portions are so huge! You get a lot of food for the money. We will definitely go back to this restaurant again.
