Stayed at this hotel 19/06/2010 for 1 week .

Will be returning in approx 10 weeks time for 2 weeks.

The only negative thing I have to report is I asked, in person for 3 extra coat hangers was told no problem will get you some, never did get them.

I personally think if thats my only negative point then this hotel is worth a v-good rating.

I have read in previous reports about the pizza flyers, solution just put them in the bin.

Security very good someone always walking about in the grounds met him -Selbyn- on many occasions whilst I went out for a smoke.

My wife and I stayed at this BW property for 1 week. We thought that it was very good or the following reasons.

Location, Location, Location - The hotel is located on Universal Boulevard steps away from Wet n' Wild and 1 1/2 blocks away from International Drive, there is a lake across from the hotel that gives it a nice view for the rooms located in the front tower, Universal Studios is less than a 3 minute drive or 15 minute walk to the North. Disney parks are about 10 minutes away by taking Interstate 4 WB.

Check in -

Check in was painless, it took me less than 5 minutes to complete everything. We looked around but could not find a cart to get our bags out of the car and no help from the check in desk (but they were very busy with a bus tour that had just arrived). We had to make 2 trips to get the bags ourselves (good exercise). If you are given a slip by the front desk upon check in and the guy tells you to go to the "Customer Relations Desk" which translates to "Time-Share on your face promotions" decline it and just tell the front desk attendant to give you your parking pass and spare you the time-share discourse. Note - You do NOT really need the "parking pass" we checked other cars for them and only 2 out of about 10 cars had it. Also the time share guy is very rude and is very pushy, just be firm but respectful and tell him to give you the parking pass and get it over with.

The room -
My wife and I stayed at room number 613 which was near the elevators and right next to the service elevator, however, through our entire stay we did not hear any heavy movement and did not hear any big commotions except for the occasional excited child eager to go to one of the theme parks when the elevator was taking too long. Very quiet room and very spacious. It smelled fresh and well appointed. 40" Flat screen TV in the room with Microwave, fridge and coffee maker. All worked fine. The TV signal was somewhat fuzzy but my wife and I decided to let it go because we did not spend much time in the room. Bathroom was clean with clean towels, all clean linens. Water pressure in the room was good but the temperature of the water kept fluctuating from warm to cool and then back to warm, it was somewhat annoying but tolerable. One night a light bulb blew out and we called the front desk and a very professional and jovial maintenance man showed up within 5 minutes of our call and replaced the bulb with no major effort.

Age matters -

The overall experience at this hotel was favorable and will stay here again but like I was telling my wife and she agreed - We are good guests that mind our own business and stay out of people's way with the utmost respect to the privacy of other guests. Having said that I have to say that the age of this hotel shows. The elevator looks dated and rides all the way up making all kinds of noises (but gets you there). Every time we would enter the room it would be very difficult for us to get the green light to open the door. We were helped by some members of housekeeping a couple of times but the lock would still not budge. We were always able to open the door after about 5 or 6 tries. One night, one of the bulbs in the room blew out and we called the front desk and a member of maintenance showed up within 2 minutes to take care of it. Good customer service and attentive employees.

I can't tell you anything about the pool or tennis courts since we did not use them but they looked clean. There is a convenience store in the lobby of the room with all the usual chocolates, peanuts drinks etc. Reasonable prices.

In summary - We loved the hotel, it was clean and refreshing but a bit dated. It could use a nice makeover and more modern elevators. It is a good hotel for families and business people, rooms are quiet and cozy with floor to ceiling windows. We recommend it and will stay here again.

This will be our 3rd stay at this hotel. We love the location and sometimes walk to Universal (it take about 20mins). The and the staff are friendly and the bell boy remembers us. We have stopped at the Hard Rock hotel in Universal and apart from the location we have gone back to The Best Western as it gives a more personal and friendly welcome and also the rooms are always clean and the laundry facilities are very useful.

We had requested side by side rooms with other family members. Called numerous times and were told this was done. Asked when we arrived that morning and was told rooms were side by side but weren't ready. Came back later that evening and was told rooms were on different floors. Front desk never apoligized, just said it wasn't her fault that no one had marked the rooms to be adjoining. We had requested this at least 5 different times on the phone and once in person. After our protest, she moved another reservation to at least get us on the same floor. She was not happy about having to do this. Had 3 days of our stay where we had to beg for clean towels and toilet paper. Housekeeper argued with me that she had already put towels in our room that day. She said we must have already used them. We had been out of the room all day and couldn't have used the towels. On the 2nd day of begging for towels, I spoke directly to the housekeeping supervisor, who assured me that we would be given the VIP treatment for the rest of the stay. The next day we arrived back in our room around 4:00 and it had not been cleaned at all! No clean towels!! No toilet tissue! Had no hot water one day. Never look under the bath mat in the tub. It was nasty! Front desk staff was unfriendly. No reason to call front desk because they don't answer the phone. Housekeeping was unfriendly. Key card kept deactivating. Would never stay here again!!

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel.

I am disappointed that we did not meet your expectations during your stay. In fact, it appears as though we certainly dropped the ball in many areas. I would love to have the opportunity of speaking with you directly about these issues and hopefully regain your trust in our product.

In the meantime, I will share your review with our management staff at our departmental meeting and we will discuss each item that you have mentioned and how we could have handled them better. It appears as if communication was the main breakdown during your stay.

Again, thank you for taking the time to review our property and please contact me directly so that we can further discuss the issue.

Sincerely,

Bill Jones, CHA

Excellent Hotel - Clean & comfortable with all the amenities of home, nice & quite location but only 5mins walk away from the action packed international drive, super clean swimming pool, all hotel staff polite & friendly, air con stopped working notified front desk-maintenance were there within 10mins, children aged 11 & 12yrs who are usually hard to please (unless it involves money) had no complaints, the only complaint i had but it wasn't a issue was the ipod player in room doesn't charge ipod - so don't forget charger!! Made use of the business centre & laundry room but used up to much energy on theme parks to make use of the fitness centre-which looked quite impressive, Shades Deli mostly for tea, toast & snacks, tried Sharky & Jacks Restaurant - ok'ish but double the price than other restaurants on international drive. We couldn't have been happier staying at this hotel - would definitely return & recommend

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was clean. The covering by the pool the best. When it rained we were still able to enjoy being by the pool. What an awesome addition. This hotel is excellent.

Everything went fine in my stay, my only complaints were that the toilet didn´t flush sometimes and one lightbulb didnt work after the 2nd day there. I told them about this problems, they supposedly sent someone, but the problem continued. The computers in the business center block a lot of programs, like facebook, twitter and messenger, and you can´t use skype there, which was an inconvenience for me. The hotel restaurant has weird hours, doesn´t open for lunch time, the food is expensive but good.

Very important: the rooms were always cleaned properly, the beds were very comfortable. The location is very nice and safe, very close to International Drive and the i ride trolley, which makes it special for tourists. The hotel staff was great, always greeting us and available for questions. Overall, a nice stay for the price, I recommend it.
