“We plan a return visit!”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

We stepped off the Magic Express and was greeted by a Cast Member who knew our name and welcomed us home. We were sold from that moment. Our stay was during the Christmas holiday and even though it was busy in the parks we felt relaxed at night strolling through the tiki lit walk ways. The smells and the grounds were clean and inviting.
We stayed on the third floor of the Tokelau longhouse building and really liked its central location. Our individual room was spacious, but not perfect. We had toilet issues, and there was peeling wall paper. That's not a major deal breaker for our family of four.
It's all about the location! Great stay...going back soon!

Room Tip: Love the central location of the Tokelau Longhouse.

This was our first time staying right in WDW and it was a great way to get the full Disney experience. We were treated royally right from the security gate getting into the parking lot to the cleaning staff for our room (we stayed at the Fiji building). Our room faced the luau area and we were worried about the noise but we were never bothered by this. The building is a bit dated and we expected the room to be old but the theme seems to have held up to test of time. The rooms are dark but clean. The kids loved all the details that go into making the whole Polynesian experience seem real. It was nice to have the balcony to sit and relax in the evenings. The kids were actually upset that we didn't have more time in the resort (busy experiencing the parks). We love the movie on the beach (the kids actually started watching the movie in the pool). They also loved the water slide though the line up for the slide was long at times. The food at the cafe was good with a fairly good variety (enough to make each of us happy) and the Dole whip is recommended. We had the character breakfast in the restaurant which wasn't a great value (who can eat $25 worth of eggs and bacon?) but the kids loved meeting all the characters who took time at each table. The mugs with the meal plan were great and I felt safe letting the kids go refill their drinks when we were at the pool. The monorail makes the resort so convenient (my husband snuck back one afternoon for a quiet break from the noise and the sun). The boat shuttles are also convenient. We took advantage of the extended park hours offered to guests. The grounds are so well kept the resort felt very lush. The kids love the shopping right at the resort. All the staff we encountered during our stay seemed genuinely happy (or were good actors) and extremely helpful.

Room Tip: Spend the check out day at the park if you drove to resort. We packed the car and checked out leavin...

The smell when you walk in is amazing. Tests the only way to start it off. There pool Is great the rooms look brand new. Even thought it's one of the original hotels from 1971 quick service. Very nice castmembers. There were hidden speakers everywhere that played music. I love it.

This is a wonderful resort with lots to explore and do. The lobby reminded me of Animal Kingdom and Fort Wilderness. The pool is modest but with plenty of bends and alcoves to avoid feeling like in a large tub. Restaurants and bars are fun to just be in and look around. This is possibly the best Disney resort, as even many of the comparison reviews suggest. The other thing that I really liked was the convenience of being on Disney's tram. Great.

All I can say relative to the bad reviews is this: This is not the newest buillding, but many of the rooms are renovated, especially the Concierge building which is where we normally stay. No where else in WDW can you see the Cinderella Castle, lagoon, be on the monorail, and have a beach and pool at the hotel.
I guess it depends on your perspective and what you are looking for in your WDW experience. Price? Of course it's over priced! You can get a suite at the Four Seasons Palm Beach for less than a suite here, but what in WDW isn't overpriced?

Room Tip: Get a room in the Hawaii building facing the theme park

This resort was all we could ask for. We usually stay at the Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts(Bay Lake Tower, Boardwalk Villas, etc.) but we decided to stay here since we have been intending too for a while. Right when you walk into the lobby it feels like Hawaii. Torches lit the Resort paths at night. On the beach we could see Magic Kingdom and the fireworks at night. The room was like always at Disney great. Although this resort opened along with the Magic Kingdom back in October 1971, this resort has been refurbished a plethora of times and still looks brand new. The rooms were nice and peaceful and very intricately themed as expected from any Disney Resort. The monorail was an added advantage. It was great being able to get to EPCOT and Magic Kingdom easily. Also, a boat was available to take you to Magic Kingdom. Overall, it was a great resort.
