North building, view of water: Room was very clean and large, great for my family of five. Every area of this hotel was kept up very nicely. All staff was super friendly. We never needed to drive as there are several types of transportation to all of the theme parks. Boats to parks run they claim every 20 minutes, but I actually believe they were quicker then that!! They have several gift shops in case you forget anything at the parks. Nice arcade with a 24 hour snack bar. They also have several restaurants, but we ate at the parks.

We were at disney over spring break, its just not fun anymore. They have for the most part all the same old rides, very little new in the last 10 yrs.The motel was close to magic kingdom but is getting old and not kept up like it should be for the price. our rooms did not get cleaned in a timely fashion, so we could not go back and forth during the day. We go to florida every two years for kids spring break and will not go back to disney for some time. sorry to say, but for the money its just not worth it anymore...........

I believed that many of the reviews seemed too critical of the resort. The proximity to the Magic Kingdom only makes the accommodations more disappointing, due to the complete lack of "Disney Magic". The hotel is sorely in need of updating, renovation, maintenance and staff training.

We requested a renovated room months in advance, and were of course, assigned to an old, musty, thoroughly worn room. Only upon speaking to several employees and management were we informed that these rooms are extremely scarce and rarely available. Many features of the room simply needed repair (switches, fixtures, etc).

The grounds are not contemporary, they are utilitarian, with a late 80's spartan feel.

I will not bore the reader with countless examples of the unpleasant Contemporary resort, because it is not pleasant to recount, I will only say, buyer beware.

We only wished we had chosen any of the other comparatively priced resorts in the area, and that's what we'll do next time.

This trip has helped us to decide on Universal Season passes when our Disney Annual passes are up for renewal, and we won't be buying any Disney stock in the near future.

Our family recently returned from a holiday at WDW and a great stay at The Contemporary Resort. We choose a Tower Room with a Magic Kingdom view. We were fortunate enough to secure a newly renovated room on the 8th floor. It was fantastic. The beds were comfortable, the room was well appointed and the flat screen LG was definitely a treat. The bathrooms were modern, marble and funky with higher-end Kohler fixtures and basins and motion sensor activated fans and nightlights etc. The balcony was great and an exciting place to view the fireworks with the little ones before we tucked them in bed. The pool area is handy and child friendly with access to some great water craft, a ferry and a basic beach bar for some Rum Runners by the water.

The quick access to monorail is priceless. Outbound, you always seemed to get a seat and, when you were most tired, the Contemporary was the first stop inbound from the Magic Kingdom. Generally, you could go door-to-door in about 15 minutes or less. There are many good things about the Contemporary’s access to the monorail and its proximity to the other hotels. For example, The Grand Floridian has a superior walk-in pool, beach bar, waterfall and waterslide complex. It was very little trouble to jump on the monorail with the kids to enjoy the amenities and dining opportunities at the Contemporary’s neighboring resorts.

The criticism I have of this resort is the efficiency and effectiveness of the resorts housekeeping staff and housekeeping management. Often the room would not be made up until 4 pm + even after you politely asserted yourself and requested (repeatedly) a room prep prior to 3 pm. This lack of service stood in strong contrast with the service from other areas of WDW and is not acceptable.

I have read a number of negative reviews of this Hotel. I could well imagine that a stay in an un-renovated room would be a disappointment. I could also see that staying far off the main tower could be frustrating as it would negatively impact the efficiency you enjoy with the close-by Tower monorail access. The main pundits of this hotel seem to be venting a frustration related to cost. If you cannot afford to stay there then don’t; any level of service or lack there-of, will not remedy one’s financial constraints. Why not live like a King/Queen at a lesser priced and perhaps even nicer resort? In the end you are paying for the location and convenience; staying at the Contemporary Tower cuts almost 2 hrs out of your daily travel routine.

In any case, have a great time!

I attended a convention at the hotel and did not stay here (THANK GOODNESS!). I will just list a couple points and if you want to stay here at least you have made an informed choice.
If you stay on the east side of the hotel you get a great view of the fireworks. The California Grill also has a great view of the fireworks AND they play the music that goes with the show which is really nice. I was told by a Disney employee that that while the CA Grill is great for the fireworks it is VERY LOUD for dinner after the fireworks are done.
The hotel location it NOT SO AMAZING (see below)
The joke with people at the conference I attended was that it should be called "the Dilapidated not so contemporary hotel that needs a major renovation." As an example I’ve attached a couple pictures of the ceiling in the lobby. Just multiply the images times 100 and you can get a feel for the situation. The food area is very much like a food court in a shopping mall. It is not bad, just boring and institutional (not magical).
ABOUT THE LOCATION: Although it is geographically close to the Magic Kingdom, YOU CAN NOT WALK THERE EASILY. You need to take the monorail, which is VERY convenient but it runs the other direction from the resort. This means you will have 3 stops before the magic kingdom (Monorail connecting station, the Polynesian resort, and The Grand Floridian).
If you can get a really great deal (better than the Polynesian) then it is worth staying.

We stayed at the resort for 2 nights for my husband to attend a conference. If you are doing the Disney parks, this is as close as it gets to convenience. The monorail runs through the main tower building and you can also walk a very short distance to the entrance of the Magic Kingdom. Our room was not located in the tower building but in the South Garden Wing building. It was a renovated room and extremely comfortable. We had two beds and a futon couch. The room had a coffee pot and small fridge and a flat screen television. Our room faced a courtyard on the 2nd floor. The garden wings are only 3 floors and do not have accessible balconies. There are rooms that face the bay side which would be nice to see the boat parade in the late evening. You can see the Magic Kingdom fireworks from most anywhere on this resort property.

A large part of the hotel is under renovation and I asked upon check-in about a room in the Tower and was informed that only a small number of floors had been renovated and as I looked around later I saw that the entire 5th floor was closed off. It appeared that most of the South Wing we were located in was also closed for renovation. It was difficult to find a parking space near our South Wing entrance due to contruction crew parking. As I walked around the resort, I noticed several rooms in the North Garden Wing that were not renovated.

They do have two pools that face the bay but nothing exceptional if your kids are looking for anything except basic. They do have a marina which rents all kinds of boats.

The restaurants are pretty much booked unless you have made prior dinner reservations so be prepared to pick up fast food in the Food and Fun Center. If you have a car, you are several miles from exiting Disney property at this resort as it was one of the 1st to be built so it is deep inside the property and it does take some time to exit the property to reach restaurants on Rt 192 or International drive or the Downtown Disney area. Plan ahead if you can and make dinner reservations.

Having stayed in several other Disney resorts, I did not find the same level of service and Disney ambience at the Contemporary. As I mentioned earlier it is all about the location of the this resort.

Our family stayed at Disney's Contemporary Resort from January 23-27, 2006. After reading reviews of this hotel, I decided to request a room with a "Magic Kingdom View". Upon arrival everyone was extremely friendly and helpful, and after about a 10 minute wait we were able to go to our room with a view. Considering we were about an hour earlier than the actual check-in time, I was impressed that we were allowed to go to our room so quickly. We had planned to have our luggage stored so we could head to the Magic Kingdom, but were glad to be able to take it to our room instead. Everything about the room and its location (and view) exceeded our expectations, as did the restaurants at the resort. The kids were impressed with the blinking ice cubes in their Shirly Temple drinks at the one restaurant on the 4th floor, and we were also impressed with breakfast at Chef Mickey's as well as our meal at the California Grill (located on the 15th floor). A word of warning: The California Grill books quickly and is pretty formal, but we were dressed informally when we went there. Calling the day before, we were still unable to get a reservation before 9:00 p.m. on Thursday night, and January is considered a slow time at Disney, so plan ahead if you want to eat there. The menu is quite different and changes daily, but the food was very good. The kids menu had "familiar" items on it such as a chicken breast or cheese pizza, and our boys said both were excellent. Only one minor thing didn't go as planned while we were staying at the Contemporary, and it is probably our fault: We went out front to wait for a bus to MGM Studios and before we went down to wait we called the front desk to see if there was a certain time the bus stopped. They said they stop about every 20 minutes but they could not tell us an exact time. When we went out front to wait my husband asked some of the workers who stand there and greet new guests as they arrive, and they said they couldn't tell us when the bus would arrive. After about a 45 minute wait, no busses showed up, but our one son kept saying that they were turning before pulling into where we were sitting. We assumed they were driving down the road and not turning into our resort, but finally we decided to step out to where he was watching them, only to find out that the bus stop was actually in a different location at the resort and not where we were waiting at! Maybe we should have realized that the bus stop was actually elsewhere (it was close to where we were, but the buses turn to go into it instead of pulling in where cars load and unload, which is where we were sitting), but it is too bad the workers who were standing there didn't tell my husband when he inquired about the bus. Following that fiasco we were able to catch a bus and get to MGM, and when we returned to the Contemporary I looked in the lobby for a sign saying where the bus stop is located, and yes, there was a sign, however it was nearly covered by the branches of a tree sitting in front of it. So, other than that minor problem, I can't say enough good about the Contemporary, its condition and the employees. Our room was located not far from the elevator on the 7th floor, which is about in the middle of the resort. It would seem to me that as long as you stay in that area or further away from the end with the Chef Mickey restaurant, you should be able to avoid most of the loud noise that the restaurant creates. We didn't notice any noise problems due to Chef Mickey, or anything else. We would not hesitate to stay there again, and the location near the Magic Kingdom can't be beat!!
