“Bookended with trouble, great in the middle”
Reviewed February 19, 2014 via mobile

I stayed for three nights for a conference held at the hotel's conference center. A high quality experience for the most part, but it got off to a rough start. The toilet seat in my room's bathroom wouldn't stay up, so I called maintenance to have it fixed. Later that evening he showed up with a new seat, but when he replaced it he somehow broke a valve as every flush brought a huge spray of water. So, I had to repack and move to a different room. When I asked for something to make up for my trouble, they gave me a 50% credit on that night's room charge. Then the day I checked out, I got a note on my door saying I couldn't use the airport checkin at the hotel, but would need to do it at the airport even though I was on Southwest which is lasted as being part of the program. But, it was a great venue for the conference and I made use of the restaurants, pool, and gym.

My husband and I (along with extended family of 5 adults and 2 children ages 8 and 4) stayed at the Contemporary for a 3 night visit in February. We have never stayed at a Disney Resort, and we were excited to use the new Magic Bands. Despite the fact that the monorail service was interrupted because of maintenance (which the hotel NEVER informed us upon check in), we had no issues getting back and forth to the parks, in fact the Magic kIngdom was a very easy and short walk from the resort.
The room was clean, spacious and we had a balcony overlooking the bay behind the resort. We had no housekeeping issues (as other reviewers have stated), and we even had to have interaction with the hotel manager Rodrigo due to an unfortunate experience at the onsite restaurant, The Wave. He was very kind, responded quickly and gave us ample compensation for our troubles.
The resort is geared towards families, especially those spending the majority of their time at the Magic Kingdom. If Epcot or Hollywood studios is more your style, you may want to choose a different resort on site at Epcot due to boat transportation.
Again, overall, we had a good experience at the resort (despite the restaurant). Clean, comfortable, many amenities which we didn't even get to use due to our short stay, and location, location, location.
The Magic Bands worked well and made all transactions very simple. The only thing is that if you have a meal plan, you must do a good job of tracking your meals/snacks as they don't always ask or tell you what your balance is.
I would recommend the resort to families looking to spend most of their time at Magic Kingdom.

Room Tip: The monorail is on the 4th/5th floor, so if you don't want the noise, you may opt for a higher f...

Lovely rooms, very comfortable beds, clean as a pin. Staff was friendly. Biggest complaint is with the new Disney technology system (bracelet and fingerprint id) which was malfunctioning at various times for the 3 days we were there. Nice restaurant on the ground floor of the Contemporary, "The Wave" which is underrated but well worth enjoying.

Beautiful pool area for family fun. Monorail traveling through the hotel still enchants.

Room Tip: Try to get rooms in the Tower as opposed to the adjoining 'garden rooms' as there is a bit o...

Surprisingly terrible service. The VIP check in gentleman was friendly but seemed to hijack our check-in and took us to the concierge level for check-in where they told us nothing about the hotel or amenities or special hours at the park. In fact we didn't even know if we were checked in when we were done. Our wristbands (keys) didn't work so we assumed we were not checked in. Turns out the elevators just didn't take us to the floor we needed to go to. The hotel knew they were broken and just hadn't fixed them and didn't think anyone would! Also, Whenever we asked a question we were given incorrect or conflicting info. There are not enough elevators in this hotel so hopefully you will never be in a hurry. Yeah right - at Disney. Mostly they just seemed very disinterested in helping with any questions or even looking up from their monitors.

Room Tip: Do not pay extra to stay in one of the suites. They look good on the site but are vapid or character...

We just returned from another amazing trip to Disney. We are annual passholders and enjoy quick getaways to Disney. We used to stay off property to save money, but after comparing the hotels to the "Hotel Plaza Blvd" hotels we used to stay at, you just can't beat Disney Resort advantages when you stay. We specifically stayed at this resort for the Monorail. Made our plans around it ahead of time online, our Magic Bands are truly magical and the wonderful service that we received at the Contemporary did not stop there. We also enjoyed very Disney like experiences at the Coral Reef Restaurant and Be Our Guest. Both well worth every penny. I was happy to hear that the monorails were working for the weekends which is when we were there. Felt bad for the people who paid literally thousands with no monorail over the week.(due to maintenance) We had an excellent room. The toiletries were missing, we called and they delivered more than enough for us. The room was well appointed and looked like it could have slept 5 people comfortably, which was great to know for a possible return with our family. We were able to get this $4-500/night hotel for half the price as a special passholder discount. We only stayed one night, but we enjoyed every minute. And we love staying at disney resorts, just for the transportation alone to get to the parks, is so worth it. We saved money on Gas(our car never moved) and the advantage of staying at the park for the monorail was great, we could have even walked across the street if we wanted to. Hoping we can stay again if the price is right. Aidamarie Salvatore with Disney Guest Experience Services is amazing and our experience would have not been possible without her help. Check-in was done Online and we we were taken as soon as we walked up. The gentleman was very kind and courteous and had our room ready. He also said welcome home. It was a really nice touch. The food at the food court area had great selections for lunch and we didn't get to Chef Mickey's this time but know its a great character breakfast. I did notice the level of noise when staying at the tower was elevated in the room, but didn't bother as much as I originally thought. We had a great time and great experience, we were lucky to be able to afford to stay there this time.

Room Tip: Make sure the Monorail is working for your stay. Tower is a bit noisy, its just your preference. Bal...

Favorite of many, the best Disney location. Rooms have been nicely updated and the restaurants are nice. Obviously being able to hop on monorail is the big attraction. The main building is much easier to access than the new buildings bit not enough elevators.

Room Tip: Stay in original building
