“The music never stops”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2011

The only reason you need a hotel in Orlando, close to Universal Studios, is to sleep.

This other wise OK hotel is next to a mini golf course that blasts the music until after midnight. We were on the 6 floor and is sounded like it was a party in the next room.

The room was OK, outdated with thin sheets and thin pillows but acceptable, clean and not a bad sized room. The hallways were dirty and for the three days we were there were un vacuumed with lots of dirt.

The noise from next door make sit a deal breaker, even for me who is borderline hard of hearing.

We stayed in a different hotel in the area while on a 2 week long course and didn't like the food at our own hotel. We tried the restauraunt at Four Points Studio City and we were hooked!! We ended up eating at their restaurant more than our own hotel!! Similar items were cheaper and much better as well as the selection was far superior!! Breakfast style buffet was more than adequate with selection and the staff morning or night were delightful!!

After reading some of the reviews I was wondering if I made a good selection for a week stay to see Disney World and Universal. I am happy to report that the hotel, while not luxurious, is very good and I would recommend it.

Located off the 4, you really cannot miss this tall, cylindrical structure with a Universal Studios-like globe on the top (especially as Florida is very flat). Getting to the hotel from the airport will cost about $40 for a taxi and takes less than 1/2 hour.

The lobby is small but adequat. There is a restaurant we did not try. Also, there are two computer terminals and a printer (which was handy as their high speed internet was not very functional from the rooms). Front desk was pleasant and check in/out was easy.

The elevators were responsive and require a card key to access any floor.

Rooms were adequate size, very clean, did not look worn. TV was CRT rather than LCD but had Dishnetwork. Bathroom was clean and modern with two sinks. If I were to describe the hotel/room interiors it might be something akin to modern. Beds were the sweet sleeper that Sheraton normally uses. There is a work desk. The room was said to have free, wireless, high speed internet access but for 3 of 5 days it did not function at all. The two days it did function it was very slow (but, again, the lobby has free computers if there is a need). We did not use room service. Not really a complaint but the hotel seems a bit stingy on providing adequate towels and shampoo but did so promptly when we called down.

Of interest is the transportation to the parks. There are two departures and two returns to Epcot (only) each day. This is a free service but requires a reservation at least a 1/2 hour prior to departure. We were there on the busy New Years weekend yet had not trouble finding space. This will save you easily $40 each way! Once at Epcot you can transfer to a free Disney bus to take you anywhere else in the park. A tip about Animal Kingdom; once at Epcot you transfer for bus ride to Animal Kingdom. However, coming back you have to take a bus to any of the Disney resorts, then transfer again to a bus to Epcot (no direct bus back to Epcot). It was easy and quick and not too crowded.

For Universal; if you buy tickets at the hotel you can obtain free bus transportation from the hotel. However, the bus stops at several hotels before arriving at Universal. We decided to walk and guess what... it is less than an easy mile away on a sidewalk that leads right to where you want to go! Another great reason to stay at this hotel.

A couple of minor negatives. Be careful at the concierge desk. I was inquiring with the concierge about purchasing Universal tickets. He started to make the transaction then revealed this would also entail a time share talk! I really hate the time share sales techniques and would prefer that a first rate chain such as Sheraton be more revealing with their intent in the form of a booth well marked rather than use deceptive techniques. Another very minor negative was the taxi service upon departure. Be aware the hotel contracts with a service that is onsight all the time. The cars are a Lincoln and a large SUV. Both very clean, handy, responsive with good drivers. No meter. And the cost is about $8 more than a taxi. If you want a taxi they will call you one. This could actually be a positive but I list as a negative because they were not forthright in revealing the difference in fares.

One more thing. Once in awhile we found a Pizza ad under our door. I really did not think much of it. But the hotel says that these people sneek into the hotel put them under the door and that some attempt to scam credit card numbers over the phone while other are gypsy pizza makers in their garage. I took it at face value and did not respond to the ads.

I suppose I should address the air conditioning units that other writers seem to complain about. The units are the old fashioned kind that sit just below the window and have a vent at same location. Ours seemed to be new, was controlled by a wall mounted thermostat and was more than adequate. But it is the noise that people are writing about. I had no trouble sleeping but my daughter and wife did and complained about the noise. So, if blower noises historically have kept you awake you might have problems.

My summary is this a great hotel if you want to be walking distance from Universal. If you want something close to Disney, choose another hotel closer to avoid taxi fees or taking a semi long bus ride each day. The price of the hotel is a little above budget range, services are adequate, it is clean and modern, employees were helpful and responsive.

This hotel is extremely close to Universal. I chose it because of the excellent price ($63/night for room on upper floor with view if prepaid in full) and location. I booked two rooms for two nights, and was pleased they were right next to each other.
The rooms are spacious and clean; the beds were very comfortable. The staff was pleasant. Lots of available parking (at no charge) outside.
The only thing I didn't like was the lobby. Because of the architectural design of the building, the lobby was smaller than what I like - but that is no fault of the hotel, just my personal opinion.

We stayed there for 8 nights (average US$85 daily taxes included). Great king sized bed except for the huge pillows. Silent cooling/heating system. You have to pay extra for fridge or microwave. Roomy bathroom with a good shower.
During our stay, the ice machine wasnt working at our floor (18th) and we had to take it from others.
Small and simple lobby with 2 computers (internet 15 mins complimentary daily). The pool was small and also the game room.
Walking distance from some restaurants and attractions. There's a I-ride bus stop at hotel sidewalk.
There's a alamo rent a car inside the hotel (which we used) and free parking lot.

We enjoyed staying there and definitely we´ll return.

I stayed here for three nights to attend a conference at the convention center. The location is good if youwant to go to Universal Studios, and have a family.

Otherwise the hotel is average.

Note to management. You have some very unprofessional service members working at your property. The bell boy and door man was very badly dressed with pants around his ankles and untu led shirt combined with slang / street language. Management must fix this.

Concerned about bad reviews but our experience was great. Very clean hotel. Heated pool was actually heated. Staff very friendly. We enjoyed our 4 day stay and would come back again. We got a very good deal from priceline, so the value was exceptional. Our 11th floor room afforded a great view. Next time we will bring a cooler since the room has no refrigerator or microwave. Recent renovations very well done. Good location on Orlando's I-Ride bus route. Only drawback was our room location overlooking the Congo Golf. Loud Christmas music played non-stop from the time we got up until 12 midnight; had to run the fan to drown it out. Other than that the room was quiet. This was by far the nicest hotel under $100 that we have ever stay in.
