Four Points by Sheraton Orlando International Drive

Reviewed October 10, 2012

Myself and my girlfriend have just returned home from our trip to Orlando, we decided to split our 2 week trip between this hotel and for the first week and a hotel in disney for the second week.

On arrival we were impressed with the hotel reception staff who were more than helpful, we were allocated a room with a view facing dennys however the room we were in had a broken air conditioning unit so we asked to change and also asked if it was possible to have a room facing the parks which the reception staff were more than happy to supply us with, the subsequent room had spectacular views down internatinal drive and of wet 'n' wild and universal. We were able to see the hogwarts castle in islands of adventure from our room which was a major bonus for my harry potter loving girlfriend.
The hotel shuttle buses were excellent, and the drivers made the whole experience of visiting the parks that more enjoyable, the shuttle times were frequent however they did tend to stop around 8:00pm so if yu wanted to stay around universal citywalk to eat or to go to the bars you had to get a taxi or walk back this was very simple and very inexpensive as the taxi would usually cost between $5-10.
We ate at few different restaurants on international drive and chose to eat at chillis due to recommendations off tripadvisor which we were pleasantly surprised by and they also had buy one get one free drink offers which was an even bigger surprise, however with most restaurants we found that if one person had finished before the other they would immediately clear your plate from under you which i found a little rude ( however i can understand the get them in and out as quickly as possible type service due as most workers rely on tips).

I could not recommend this hotel more as the rooms were very comfortable and clean, the staff were more than helpful (especially the man who i did not get his name who mainly stood in the lobby and would arrange taxis and tickets to be sent to your room), and they made the first part of our trip very enjoyable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the parks - as the other side mainly looks out over fast food restaurants and...

Myself and my family stayed here for a week in September and as it was our first visit to Orlando this hotel was perfectly located.it is within walking distance of universal studios and across the road is wet n wild.the staff here are really friendly and helpful,Alan in particular was on hand for taxi service or anything in general that we wanted to ask about.from our check in at reception to a drink at the pool bar the staff here made our holiday a very enjoyable one.we are planning to return as soon as we can and of the twelve of us that travelled together we are all agreed that this is the only hotel we will be staying in.

Well just got back yesterday from this hotel and have to say again
this place is a great place to stay, great location, nice staff and one
other thing i found out after five years of going here is that a lot
of people there are just like us.. they keep coming back.. we met a lot of
people that have been here year after year. one of them is now
going on 21 years.

As far as i know this place is due a needed upgrade to the pool area
in the next couple of weeks. which will be good if it goes ahead.

Good points:

All the rooms now have LCD tvs in the rooms.
New Beds in all the rooms
New furniture in all the rooms

Get to know the staff, they can be very helpful
from Alan and Ron at the front door, to the check in staff
"friendly" Javier, the night manager (a gent)! then the
all important bar staff, Winnith (great girl and very helpful)
John (Promoted to supervisor) still mixes with guests (kidding)
Osama (the devil) new to the joint 6 months. he really thinks
about the customer making you feel very welcome. the reason
we call him the devil is that he keeps giving you all things
you like even though you know they are not good for you..
ask him for one of his cocktails! hell of a barman.

Gary! (hmm)

Bad points (yes there are some)

Housekeeping: they are very inconsistent, when we arrived
we noticed that windows in the room where VERY smudged
and in the two weeks where not cleaned. HAIR: in the bathroom
they did not hoover behind the door where hair was building up.

Mugs in the room not changed, bit of a pain seeming they where
made of paper martial. towels where folded back up and put back
on the rack even though they where on the floor.

Cant think of any other bad points about this place.

Would we go back if we where going to Orlando again: YES.

The staff is a big reason for this, if that where to change i think we
would consider a different hotel.

Thanks again guys for another great stay. hope everything
works out for you guys.

Room Tip: Like i said in the review "get to know the staff" Javier is really a great guy.

This hotel have excelent location, very near to Univeral and a walking distance from restaurants and supermarket. Good prices for it's category. Free on room wi-fi. For me the only set back was some misinformation of it's staff about some spg's promotions.

Sorry this review is quite long. i think its fair to say what is good about this hotel before saying why I will never be returning. Previously stayed here a few years ago and since then the inside has been changed and looks really nice and fresh. We were checked in quickly and the rooms are still very nice and spacious. Air con works well so it is never hot and stuffy at night. The breakfast buffet was nice enough, but a little expensive. If you fancy a change (and a massive price different!) there is a nice ihop just next door which we went to a few times. The location is also really good if you aren't driving - both the iride and lynx stop outside the hotel and you can get to pretty much anywhere this way. The bell hop guy was so helpful and polite. Initially I was really impressed with this hotel but there were a couple of things that let it down massively. 3 nights of our week and a half stay, the shower ran only luke warm water. The first time we made reception aware, and someone approached us at breakfast the next day (we didn't want to deal with it late the night before) to say there didn't appear to be a problem with it now (they were right). It was then fine for a couple of days then it would be cold again. It just seemed like the hotel ran out of hot water sometimes, so we didn't bother to mention it again as that seemed the obvious answer when it ran hot fine some days. We came back one day and there was a pile of sheets that had been heaped up and left in the middle of the bed (not how we'd left it). The most worrying thing was that we didn't know if they were actually our sheets because it seemed bizarre they had been left there. We made reception aware on our way out for the evening and they said they'd sort it. We returned about 4 hours later and it was still the same. We just made the bed with what we hoped were our sheets and didn't bother mentioning it again. Then a couple of days later we returned to the room at about 5pm to find the door had been left open. We always double check door is locked and was definitely shut when we left. When we went inside house keeping had been because towels had been changed. Whoever had left door open had put the metal thing you can use instead of a door chain inside the door to keep it open but then just left it like that. Apart from main valuables like passport and money in safe all of our stuff was just in the room and it was completely insecure! Not only that but they had done that weird bed thing again just leaving the sheets heaped on the bed (thought it was just someone being forgetful last time, but twice??). There was no housekeeping at all on the floor so clearly weren't returning. We secured the room and on the way out told reception. When we told the female receptionist she just said in a completely uncaring way, barely looking up from what she was doing "thanks for bringing it to our attention". We just went out and enjoyed our evening. When we returned the bed had not been made still, so again we just made it hoping they were our sheets! Worryingly while we had been out a pizza menu from a local take away was put under our door. Although you need a card to get up in the lift, if you get in the lift with a guest you can just get out on their floor. It appears the pizza worker had got onto our floor, and if we hadn't by chance needed to pop back earlier for extra money for our evening meal, he'd have found our room completely insecure!

After reading other reviews of this hotel I think I expected too much. What I found to be true was the location is good, you can see the Theme parks from your room. The safety is excellent and I really like that you must have a room key to use the elevator. There is a free shuttle to the parks and free parking at the hotel if you have a car with you. There also are restaurants and a convenience store within walking distance. What I found to be not so true from others reviews was that you really can't walk to the park from the hotel. This is much further than others make it out to be. The parks themselves are large and require a lot of walking - don't wear yourself out with a long hot walk before you even get to the park! You also must cross a highway, and even with a stoplight I do not find this to be a safe idea, especially with children.
The free shuttle is at very limited times, does stop at other hotels and you must have a ticket that you need to get in advance to ride. Parking at Universal is $15 for the day. If you are only there for a day or two I would drive yourself!
The rooms are clean, very basic, and due to the shape of the hotel - actually a bit small. The hotel does have a dining room where you can get buffet breakfast but I would highly recommend walking next door to Ihop instead where I am sure you will get a better value.
When others say that you are in walking distance to a large selection of restaurants - be advised these are fast food or buffet type places, which is fine if thats what you are looking for. But there were no healthier or nicer options that we could find anywhere nearby
This is a nice, basic, safe hotel in reasonable distance to Universal. I do recommend it but don't expect as much as others are leading you to believe.

Have just returned from a week long stay here. Fantastic location, within walking distance of Universal, and an I Ride trolley stop outside the door. Rooms are very nice, slightly dated but spotless clean and well equipped with toileteries and coffee machine. There's also free coffee in the lobby in the mornings which is a nice and welcome touch. The staff are some of the most helpful we have encountered. A special mention to Alan, who arranged transportation for us and a late check out for two of our party. His advice on shuttles and shopping was always spot on!! ( The shoe shop was great !! :) ) Also the pool bar is a must ! Gary and the rest of the staff are friendly and welcoming after a hard day park hopping! We were a large party (12-14 of us) and everyone agreed they will return here.
