“Renovation City”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2007

We stayed overnight for an early morning flight.
To say that the property is undergoing renovation is an understatement--they started construction in November!

Upon arrival at a back entrance, we found the "front desk" in an office. The staff was busy watching a Nascar race and ignored us, until we finally asked where to check in. We are elite Marriott members, and are accustomed to some check in amenity. To our surprise we were handed a paper bag with a Hershey bar, chips, and Oreos.

We were assigned a renovated room that was of average size for Orlando. The furnishings were modern and obviously new.
The bed linens were not Renaissance quality--the sheets were very scratchy polyester blend, not the usual 100% cotton. The towels were new, just too small. The bed was very comfortable.
There was a microwave and mini refrigerator, as well as the customary coffee set up.

The "restaurant" was in a meeting room and closed when we arrived (7PM); however there are several resaturants within walking distance. We expected that there would be a bar, but that too was non existent. Not sure if room service was available.

We had planned to watch an HBO special and could not find the channel for it. When we contacted the front desk, we were informed that they did not have HBO. After much channel surfing for something else to watch, we found that they did indeed have HBO--so much for the informed staff.

The airport shuttle worked well--we arrived with plenty of time to spare.

In summary, the Renaissance is fine for a quick stay, not for a vacation. From the quality of the room, it would appear that when renovations are completed, the Renaisaance will be a first class place. Until then, beware .

Stayed at this hotel very unexpectedly after 2 days of delayed flights due to weather. it's great as just a room to be able to stay in while you're waiting a delay out. the renovation is defintely taking it's toll on the aesthetic for now, but i'm sure it'll be very nice when complete. the staff was very friendly and helpful and apologetic when the rental car company they called didn't show up in a timely manner. we didn't get to see much more of the hotel other than our room and the temporary "front desk".

overall a pretty decent stay, but if you're looking to vacation somewhere i would stay somewhere else until the renovation is done.

Stayed at this hotel after an airline cancellation due to weather. It was simply an overnight stay before returning to the airport to begin the stand-by process.

The rooms were fine, and the staff was good, but I would suggest not staying here until the renovations are completed. The front desk is under construction, so check-in took place in a small meeting room with a make-shift front desk. Also, the restaurant was also under renovation, so it had been moved to meeting room space as well.

Other than the renovation issues, the property was fine - a typical airport hotel. There are plenty of restaurants across the steet, but the street is a very busy 6 or 8 lane road.

The hotel is undergoing a major renovation, but other than lack of access to the lobby, it didn't impact us at all. The front desk and restaurant have been relocated to banquet rooms without an impact to service. Houskeeping did an excellent job which seems to be a rarity. Highly recommended.

We stayed here on Marriott points after a cruise for an early morning flight and prior reviews prepared us that this hotel is under renovation. BUT - as much as they try to be accommodating they are really under rennovation - the restaurant is actually a meeting room with white table cloths. We got lost trying to find the pool - thought we were heading into the kitchen. All in all it will be a nice hotel but right now if I had paid premium hotel rates I would have felt cheated. With that said, room was clean, pool was nice, staff went out of there way.

I stayed here overnight on Feb 25th.. Renovation is on the way and is certainly needed as other reviewers have said. As a Marriott gold elite member, and person that averages over 100 hotel nights a year, this hotel just isn't up to normal Marriott standards. The room and furnishings were very worn and dated.

I also, agree that the staff was above average .

Call and check on the status of the renovation before reserving a room.

This property is out of date. Looks like renovations have begun.

Room was old and worn.

Service however was very good - was given a Marriot Silver welcome bag (chips, etc.) and when i wanted to change rooms (to a quieter location) it was handled without issue.

I think following the updates this property will be pretty good. I would stay away for now (Courtyard across street is better). But in a few months it deserves a look.
