“Very disappointed”
Reviewed June 30, 2012 via mobile

This property was an absolute disappointment. While the location is not ideal, it is ridiculous that their parking garage charges more than $15 a night. This is absurd for a hotel that's away from everything and which doesn't offer anything special. Then there was the filthy carpet in our room. This thing hasn't been truly cleaned in ages (they've merely vacuumed it, but there were nasty stains all over). The same thing goes for the bed-covers. I guess this would be acceptable at some cheap motel, but not at this kind property. Additionally, the shower-head was covered with some white solid material which has accumulated for a very long time. The ice machine and the vending machines on our floor were out of service. This place needs to seriously address its housekeeping and maintainance.

Last, there was the customer service. When I called to confirm my reservation I was "helped" by a woman named Heather whose attitude was so poor that it foreshadowed what I was going to deal with upon arrival. Other members of the staff were kind enough, which sort of compensated for her mediocre customer service skills.

I will continue to use the services of this hotel chain, but I will never stay at this particular location. A customer deserves better.

We are deeply apologetic that you experienced these items during your stay. This is not the impression we wish to leave our guests with and not the standard by which we wish to conduct business. We are currently working on improvements and are in the midst of complete room renovations, starting with our 4th and 5th floors. I greatly appreciate you bringing your concerns to light and we will definitely use this to better our service & relations with our guests.

we stayed in double-tree during my wife's emergency delivery since hotel is very close to Florida hospital in room corner #1502, Two queen Beds and Sofa-bed, a delicious complimentary breakfast filled us up so that we never ate lunch (saving a lot of money) and only had late afternoon "snacks" and don't forget to ask for Omellete , a free shuttle to almost everywhere in Orlando the City, Thanks for everyone for making our stay comfortable !!

The room was nice although the bed was not a standard king. The leather furniture was not in the best condition. The room was spacious. The staff was very friendly. Construction made it difficult to get to the pool. Although the pool was a nice size for a hotel. We could hear the train in the distance but it was not a problem. Maybe it would be if you are a light sleeper. Shuttle was nice. I would definitely stay here again .

This hotel is located on the outskirts of the business district, downtown Orlando. It is NOT a hotel one would choose with the intention of visiting any of the "tourist" spots in Orlando. It is not near Disney, Universal, etc. In fact, it's really not close to anything, including the airport or the convention center. The hotel is less than 100 yards from Interstate 4, which contributes to the noise pollution that plagues the Doubletree. That said, it is an adequate hotel if you are a business traveler or if you are attending an event inside the hotel, as I was.

The absolute worst thing about this hotel is the noise factor. Anyone who is sensitive to noise, or who does not travel with earplugs will finding sleeping in this Doubletree quite a challenge. Considering the level of noise guests have to endure, it is surprising that the hotel does not furnish the rooms with those alarm clocks that double as white noise machines. Then again, there are no mini-fridges supplied to the rooms either (they charge $10 for them) so do not expect any extra amenities.
As other reviewers have noted, there is a freight train with an exceptionally LOUD horn that passes by the rear of the hotel several times a day and several times at night. This occurs on weekends too. I don't know the exact schedule but I am absolutely certain that the train sounded it's horn at precisely 3:34 am this morning. It does not matter whether your room faces the train tracks or faces the Interstate, you will hear that train horn regardless of where you are located in the hotel.
What is actually worse than the train whistle blasting one out of a sound sleep is the excessive amount of NOISE FROM THE HALLWAYS. The acoustics in the hotel are horrible; guest room doors SLAM again and again and the walls are so thin you can hear every conversation that takes place in the hall or in the room adjacent to yours. This includes the housekeepers who start early and do not seem to realize how much commotion they make. If you are located in the same hallway with normal, happy children, plan to pull out most of your own hair while trying to get work done.

The rooms are adequately clean although, as previously noted, the furnishings are worn. The carpets need to be replaced and the bathrooms are most definitely in need of remodeling. There was so much grout around the bathtub it looked like a child had been playing with a tube of Colgate. It was necessary to hold down the toilet flush for 10 seconds in order to empty the bowl and the sink faucet dripped. The furniture in the room seemed to be placed there in a haphazard fashion; in the first room we occupied we had two chairs and no luggage rack. In the second room we had only one chair but we had a luggage rack.

We had to change rooms (after we'd settled in, naturally) because our keys stopped working. The engineering staff literally took the electronic panel off the door and then advised us we were going to have to be re-located. It would have been nice to receive something in the way of compensation for our trouble, considering we moved our own luggage, but none was offered and we are not the type to ask.

The breakfast buffet was offered for $5 with our room rate. We would not have paid more than that for it. The scrambled eggs were cold, runny and clumpy - inedible. The obligatory bacon and sausage was greasy and the potatoes were dry and flavorless. They offered corned beef hash (like the kind from a can) which looked like something you'd step over in the street. Not sure where other reviewers ate but there was no cooked-to-order-anything on the buffet. There is a coffee/soup/sandwich kiosk in the lobby of the hotel that we did not try.

There are no restaurants within easy walking distance but the hotel is about a mile from the Vietnamese section of Orlando which means you are not far from excellent Pho at very reasonable prices. It's definitely worth a trip to Mills Ave/Colonial Dr for the many outstanding Asian restaurants located there.

The TV package is adequate (MSNBC, Food Channel, ESPN) but the reception is via satellite which means when it rains heavily, the reception fails. The workout room is small but the machines are adequate and the equipment was clean. We didn't use the pool.

The saving grace of this hotel are its employees, without whom, I would have rated it lower. Everyone on the staff from the cheerful front desk personnel to the maintenance folks are unfailingly polite and helpful. If you do not want to pay the $15 parking fee (ridiculous considering you are not downtown) or the $18 valet fee, the guys working the front will show you where you can park on the street for free. Hotel staff will direct you to the 14th floor (Hilton honors) where there are chips and sodas put out in the lounge in the afternoon. Every staff member with whom we interacted was friendly, helpful and seemed interested in making our stay enjoyable.

Room Tip: View of I-4 or a view of the Chamber of Commerce Bldg....either way, there's no "view"

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Doubletree by Hilton Downtown Orlando. I am so very glad to hear that you found our staff to be cheerful and helpful! We do hope that guests would select our location to be away from some of the Orlando tourist hub and enjoy a more sophisticated atmosphere even if planning a day at the parks, a convenient ride away.
We have begun a renovation project that will address the items you mentioned regarding rooms. We are currently working on our 4th and 5th guest rooms and with this all rooms will get new furniture items. We do hope you get an opportunity to experience the renewed product in the future.
Your comments about noise are appreciated and we will address with our operational teams in order to better serve our guests. The food comments have also been addressed and we are always looking for ways to improve. There is a wealth of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and we will be sure to communicate those more as well as our own 60 South that offers local specialties, salads, sandwiches and delicious main course entrees.
Thank you again and we do hope that you will return and see improvements!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Banks

I will never stay in a Doubletree or Hilton again.”
Reviewed 6 June 2012 NEW My wife and I stayed here in April originally for 10 nights on our honeymoon from the UK.
The location was terrible (if you don't drive) and miles away from any of the 'local' attractions.
We were led to believe a shuttle bus would take you and pick you up within a reasonable distance. This was not the case, the shuttle would only drive to the bus depot, and we were told we would have to make our own way back. One of the staff members advised against us walking alone after 7pm in the area close to the hotel as it is 'not a nice area'. Obviously this made our trip of 3,500 miles even better.
As aforementioned the was the dreadful freight train which kept us awake for 4 consecutive nights. After this, deciding we could no longer manage staying in this unfriendly and rather dirty resort we attempted to contact our hotel providers back in the UK. At reception we were told we could purchase a phone card at the shop inside, to reduce the cost of calling England. In the shop the owner informed us he has not stocked phone cards for almost 2 years (of course). There is no pay phone in this hotel, so in desperation we used our hotel phone. Prior to this, we asked what the connection charge to call the UK would be, something which every other hotel I've ever stayed at has know, not suprisignly the staff did not know this information. Desperate to leave this hotel which was impeding on our honeymoon, we made one 10 minute and another 5 minute phone call to England. We finally were able to checkout early, but were charged a ridiculous $175 for 2 phone calls which totalled 15 minutes! We queried this with the staff, however there was no manager. To pay that amount of money is criminal and for 4 days they ruined our honeymoon. I would never stay not only at this hotel but ANY doubletree or Hilton hotel (by association) and will never reccomend either chain to other people, as the company has been unhelpful and I feel stolen my money

I stayed at this nice hotel overnight with four teenage girls so that we could attend the Orlando Fringe Festival. It was perfect. They checked us in quickly, gave us cookies, put us in a room with two double beds and a pull-out couch, and then shuttled us to the festival. The room was clean, the wi-fi was free, and we felt safe, all for a good price.

This was a great hotel. The rooms are very clean and big. I didn't have any problems my entire stay. Customer service was outstanding. I love that if you are a Hilton Honors member you will get a voucher for some free drinks. The only down side is you will have to pay $10 per night for a microwave.
