Orlando Metropolitan Resort
Ranked #322 of 340 Hotels in Orlando

WARNING-this "hotel/resort" is the WORST accommodation I have ever come across. I thought the trip advisor rating was ok but it appears that all the good and excellent ratings are old ratings from when the neighbouring Radisson hotel was the Orlando metropolitian resort. The images online are very misleading, as many of them are pictures of the Radisson hotel.

I booked this "hotel" for a family holiday in September 2012 and it was a huge mistake. When I arrived, the guy at the reception desk was most unhelpful but we figured that as it was late, we would just get to our room and get some sleep. The room was absolutely filthy! The toilet didn't work properly, the door wasn't secure and looked like it had been forced, the carpets were stained and there was an overwhelming smell of wet dog in the room.

We decided not to stay as we were so appalled and the guy at reception laughed it off and refused to process our refund. This meant that not only did we have to start looking for another hotel at midnight, but we had to pay for another hotel, which was a huge unexpected expense. We returned the next morning to speak to Bill, the manager, and he was sooooo rude! He told us it was not his problem and that the money was non-refundable, even though we had only been checked in for 2 or 3 minutes before returning the room key. I really can't understand how this man is still the manager after reading all the reviews about him! Although we didn't stay, we did see the "breakfast buffet" the next morning as we were leaving- it was a fold-away table and a few chairs in one of the bedrooms (!!!!!!!!!!!) with a small, questionable selection of food!!!!!!!!!

I thought this "hotel" was just offering good value for money but this was not the case- do not put yourself through the trauma of this hotel, it is absolutely horrific!!!!!!!

BEWARE - we stayed in this hotel on our Honeymoon in 2009 and it was absolutely brilliant, spotless rooms, TV and fridge, adjustable bed etc, lovely bar and reception etc, so we booked again for August/September 2012.

On our arrival we were confused as the hotel looked completely different from our honeymoon hotel (The Orlando Metropolian Resort) but on entrance to the rather grubby reception, we were assured that there was only ever one Metropolitan Resort, so we paid our 2 week stay in full and went to find our room.

On the outside, it was exactly like a seedy 80s motel, peeling paint everywhere with dirty big tinted black tinted windows and curtains. As stated in other reviews the smell of dog/urine hit us straight away as did the flickering lights and water stains all over the plaster on the ceiling (check google pictures for images that previous guests had put up). The back of the door was disgusting, big black greasy marks all over. The last straw was when it took several attempts to flush the toilet. We went straight to reception and politely told the guy at the desk our concerns to be told "I wouldn't fancy staying here either, it's not a very nice hotel." We asked for a refund as I wouldn't let our 2yr old daughter sleep in such a filthy room and the guy at the desk said that he couldn't do refunds and to speak to Bill the Manager first thing in the morning.

We then walked to the building we recognised as our honeymoon hotel (on the same grounds) to find that the hotel we stayed in, then the Orlando Metropolitian Resort, was now a Radisson franchise with no connection to the shack next door! The impressive pictures of the metropolitan resort that come up in a google search are actually the Radisson, not the metropolitan resort. We booked in to the Radisson for the night and anxiously waited to speak to Bill the next day.

When we arrived to speak to Bill the next morning, we were horrified at his blasé "not my problem" attitude. We were calm and pleasant but he was undoubtedly the rudest man I have ever had the misfortune to meet. He said the Radisson had been the Radisson for the last 10 years, which was a blatent lie, because we had a frame photo of us standing outside it a huge "Orlando Metropolitian Resort" sign in the baxkground. He washed his hands of the situation and said that we needed to deal directly with booking.com, who acted as their broker when I was booking the accommodation, even though we paid them directly. He also mentioned that the guy we spoke to on reception the previous night was "lying" about not having the authority to process a refund.

Luckily booking.com were very helpful and arranged a refund, although we had to pay for the first night. They told me to go back to Bill to get the refund an hour later to give them time to make the arrangements. I returned an hour later as instructed and although Bill denied any contact from booking.com, he had already processed the refund. He had refused point blank to process the refund an hour earlier so there is no way he would have had the refund receipt ready and waiting for us, with the first night deducted, if booking.com hadn't organised it. We are not alone, please read from others on this site about their experiences with Bill.

I would like to finish by saying that we only wanted clean and basic - we certainly weren't looking for luxury, I would also like to stay that we have stayed in hostels all around Europe which were basic, but of a much higher standard.

We had thought the other people writing reviews were just impossible to please, but we were wrong. Please don't make the mistake of booking this "hotel" because it will ruin your holiday.

I wish I could rate it as -5. Our stay at this hotel was the worst experience ever! The breezeway is shabby! The bathroom latch was broken and there was dried sticky soap on it. The closet door was broken and hanging loose on one hinge. The beds had no comforters. We reached really late at night and were upset by the way the place looked. Since we were tired we crashed right away. When we woke up, we discovered more horror. The room we were given had 2 sinks, both were clogging! The shower did not work. We called the reception and said we wanted to check out, and they refused us a refund. We asked to be moved to another room. They asked us to come all the way down to the reception (from 5th floor) and collect the keys. We did that too. We moved out stuff to the new room, which had broken doors but at least there was water from the shower. Since the place looked so mischievous, we decided to carry our laptop and precious things along (Thank God!). When we came back after spending a day at Universal Studios, we walked into the room and to our surprise (call it "shock"!) there were 2 guests lying on our beds! When we said it was our room, the bigger guy jumped at us and was about to punch us in the face! We called the reception and they asked us to come down. So, while we were gone, they allotted the same room to someone else too!! We asked the new guests if our luggage was in the room. They said he room was clean when they came.

We spent 2 hours asking the hotel ppl to locate our luggage and they had no clue where it was! The manager refused to answer his phone at all (such irresponsibility!). Finally we had to call the cops! After a long discussion with the cops, the house keeping head went somewhere and got our luggage back. He said it was in the same room. After this when we asked for our money back, they said we will have to call Priceline and asked for our money since the booking was thru them! We yelled and made them call priceline and cancel the reservation right away!!

We spent 4 hours that night trying ti resolve the issue!! We checked out and stayed at Courtyard by Marriott for the rest of our stay, which obviously is a great place.

We repent trying to save money and staying in this hotel. It's the worst way to save money.

I RECOMMEND NO ONE EVER STAY IN THIS HOTEL!! ITS THE WORST-EST PLACE!!

The location of the "Resort" was perfect. It was located close to everything International Drive has to offer. Staff was friendly, had no issues with check in or check out. We just needed a cheap hotel for a quick night on International drive, we were not looking for something for family, or something for long term. It was just a trip where we were out late and up early. The bathroom floor looked like it was never mopped, the paint was peeling in the room, cobwebs and it was outdated and old. We never did find the remote to the t.v. Like I said this not an upscale place to stay, but on a side note oddly enough they had a great pool. It was huge with a nice spa and lounge chairs. If they had put that much effort in the rooms, it would be a great place.

I felt compelled to leave a little note of warning. We recently stayed at The Orlando Metropolitan Resort at 8444 Austrian Court off International Drive. The staff that met us at the hotel desk was very courteous and attentive. They provided us a map of the building, directions to the room, the location of the only working ice machine (5th floor, North Side) and the elevator. While walking to our room we enter the middle breezeway where we are met with the odor of urine and mildew. The elevator is dated and from the sound of the ride to the 3rd floor it is in need of some maintenance. The walk from the elevator to the room reveals that the children’s play area (west side of hotel) is roped off with yellow caution tape. The door to the room is locked but loose prior to entering. The carpet in the room is stained and worn, no smells/odors, sheets are clean, mattress is level but spongy, pillows are flat, no comforter on either bed. TV has about 12-14 channels with only 2-3 English speaking stations, no movie channels, the small refrigerator is clean but warm, no coffee pot, and no WIFI in the room. The safe in the closet is open, and has no key. The bathroom is very dated, old tile, old counter, sink, shower (leaky faucet), and repairs to the seams have been made with poorly applied with silicone caulk. The only upgrade is the toilet with a very loose seat next to the oddly placed push button phone on the wall. The towels were thin, rough, and the shampoo containers were half full.
The 2 night stay was uneventful and sleeping was restless due to the loud A/C and worn out mattresses.
All that said and the low price, you truly get what you pay for in this place. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone staying the Orlando area that has a family.

How can this place be called a resort? This place is nasty, dirty and older than dirt. We were the only people in the lobby with 2 employees behind the counter & neither acknowledge us for quite a while. The room was clean, if you consider extremely stained carpets and mold clean. The upside was there was no bedbugs. The sink in the bathroom still had God only knows what from the last guest. The complimentary shampoo..etc had been used. The elevators worked sporatic and there was tape around the playground,so the kid couldn't play.We checked out early & they wouldn't refund our per day resort fee. The tv only had a few english speaking channels out of maybe a dozen channels we could get.Internet only available in the lobby. Ice machine on every floor but only the 5th floor was working.

Room Tip: The best tip....go somewhere else.

My family and I have stayed here many times and it is a great location for universal and even not too far from disney. The rooms are large, much larger than some of the disney resorts, and we have always found them to be clean and well accomodated. The staff is always friendly and efficient in supplying whatever is needed. It is economically a great deal for a quick stay in the orlando area.

Room Tip: we always choose first floor rooms but higher floor would be quieter
