“Avoid This Hotel If You Can.”
Reviewed September 20, 2010

I usually stay at a hotel closer to the University of Central Florida when traveling there on business but picked this hotel as the closest available. Location is probably the best this hotel has to offer with lower than average room prices. If you are not concerned with service related issues normally expected when traveling then this may work for you. The front desk staff was extremely indifferent to my request to not copy my driver's license along with my credit card upon check-out. In fact, they scanned my license directly into their computer even after I asked them not to do this. I offered to pay cash instead and was ignored. Many people are not aware that not only is this practice not required by the credit card companies but is inadvisable because the information on your driver's license along with your credit card can be used to commit credit card fraud using your information. Rudeness seems to be the norm at this Best Western. Keep a close eye on your credit card accounts if you do stay here. Hopefully you will be able to avoid this hotel. I will never go here again.

There were bugs in the room and when I tried to get a refund and leave they told me a) they had a 24 hour cancellation policy and b) they are charging me for the room even though I didn't actually stay in it for more than 20 minutes.

I reserved 5 rooms for my party by phone call directly to this property on Jan. 7, 2008. The reservation, not confirmed as
requested, was for the period 2-14 thru 2-18 at the guaranteed rate of $101+ per night. All were for non-smoking room, one was for two queen size bed. (The room with two queen size beds was not available at check-in and this necesssitated rental of a sixth room.)

When we checked out we were charged $118+. No one in our party noted this discrepancy until returning home. I called the manager re the problem and she said the $118+ rate was correct because it was a "race week-end" and denied that the $101+ rate had been quoted to us.

My group has stayed at this property, originally as a Holiday Inn Express and since being converted to a Best Western, for at least the past ten years during this time period. In 2007 the rate was $69+. I pointed this out and asked about the increase when making the reservation. The same manager told me it was because it was "race week-end."

I guess this comes down to who you want to believe.

I choose this hotel because of the location and price. I was attending a wedding in the area. A very good value for the money. However, hotel is dated. Rooms have exterior doors. You can tell that they have taken an older hotel and made improvements to make it more pleasant. The room bathroom could have been cleaner. Buffet breakfast was great-many choices. Also, you can't turn left out of the property and it is right next to an interstate. All in all, a good value for the money.

The very best thing about this hotel is the price. At $80 a night, it's tough to complain.

I live in Orlando and booked this hotel for my entire family who came in for my recent graduation, and as a result I spent a lot of time at the hotel as well as getting an earful (good and bad) from everyone who stayed there. Here's what we found out:

Location: The hotel is situated right next to the on-ramp for one of Florida's major toll roads, as well as being near two universities (UCF and both of Barry University's graduate school campuses). This made it very convenient to UCF, Downtown, the Parks area, Waterford Lakes and Winter Park, as well as the Florida Mall and the Outlets via State Road 408.

Room Amenities: The rooms were very cramped considering that they were billed as "suites." They are more like a very large hotel room with a sitting area that's set off with a divider. It's certainly not a suite. It was nice having a coffemaker, microwave and refrigerator in the rooms. The bathrooms are outdated, but adequate. The beds are comfortable, but not deluxe by any means. I would recommend bringing your own pillow and a beach towel for the pool area.

Pool: My family LOVED the outdoor pool. It was very clean, and the well-maintained courtyard was their favorite place to hang out. The biggest problem was mosquitos, but all I can say to that is "Welcome to Florida!" The biggest complaint I heard was that they kicked everyone out at 10:00 p.m., and they would have stayed out there all night if possible.

General Amenities: Everyone liked the continental breakfast, though it was rather basic. The cleaning staff was less than motivated. The grounds are safe, well-lit and well-maintained. The staff was pleasant and friendly.

Bottom line: A nice little hotel for the money.

  • Liked — Convenient location and CHEAP!
  • Disliked — Slightly run down. Not dirty but not the cleanest hotel either.
  • Tips/Secrets — There are lots of equally convenient hotels by UCF that are better hotels, but at 1.5 to 2 times the price. This place is a bargain if you can overlook a few things.

Have stayed here a number of times. Good location by Greenway, 30 min to Disney, 20 to I Drive, 45 to Cocoa Beach. Has courtyard with pool, hot tub and laundry. Staff friendly, facility very clean. We like it as there are usually few rowdy kids around the pool.
