“A gem in a town full of chains”
Reviewed November 25, 2012 via mobile

Orlando is full of boring restaurants one can find anywhere - yet they all seem to be packed. We were delighted to find a unique option just off International Drive!

We love Ethiopian food, and this place had some of the best. We did the Chef's assortment so that we could try several options. Not that you would need more food, but we started with the Afita appetizer (a chilled lentil dish) that really made me happy.

Skip the chains and help support small, local businesses - especially this one!

“Unique and full of flavor”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

If you can find the Nile restaurant tucked away along Orlando's ridiculously tourist I-Drive, you're already ahead of the game.

Once inside, you are greeted and led to either a traditional table or semi-private low seating or booth seating. Soft African music played throughout our meal, which added a nice touch and authenticity.

My friend and I tried the starter sampler plate as well as doro wat (A distant cousin to chicken tikka) and beef alicha, marinated in earthy spices and herbs. Everything comes with injera, a yeast-risen but crepe-like bread with a slightly fermented taste to it. On its own, I thought it was wonderful. It's used in place of silverware to scoop up the items that come atop it on large platters. I found the food to be very, very good. It's another country's cuisine, so don't expect a burger and fries. Some dishes are mild, some deeply steeped in spices, others just spicy enough to warrant a break here and there. Many of the dishes are stews or mixtures of beans and vegetables. Desert isn't part of the cultures, so there are no offerings there; that's fine - you'll leave full and satisfied.

Nile is family owned and there aren't too many people on staff, so be prepared to dine leisurely. Enjoy the pace; Ethiopian cuisine seems to demand it. I would happily return to Nile and recommend it to those with a little sense of adventure.

“A glimpse of the exotic, in Orlando”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

We ate in the "family" room and enjoyed the delicacies very much. The food was tasty and the ambiance was appreciated. We most definitely would return. Ethiopian food is wonderful!
