“Great property - so so location”
Reviewed November 14, 2006

We stayed for 14 nights recently in the HGVC in a 1 bedroom suite. The suite was lovely, we really enjoyed the double size whirlpool bath. The kitchen has all mod cons and there is a washer/dryer in one of the cupboards. It has everything that you would need.

The pool area is beautiful and the dive in movie is great for kids. The food at the poolside bar was good and the deli was handy. There is a supermarket across the road from the hotel. It is about 10 mins drive to Disney and 15/20 mins to Universal.

There was only two downsides to this hotel.
1. The timeshare sales people came down a bit heavy. Be careful when checking in, if you are stopped for a few gift in reception at a separate desk just say no thanks and keep walking, they end up inviting you to there sales pitch and offer money for attending. We had to say no to three different people before they took no for an answer.

2. The Location
If you want to eat out at night this area is not for you. The only restaurant close by is an Outback. There is nothing else around so you either have to drive or get a taxi 10/15 mins up International Drive.

I would definately stay here again and I would not let either of the two downsides put me off staying in a HGVC again. It really was lovely.

A note nothing to do with the hotel: Do not get into any taxi unless it has a plate on the roof. It is a long story but there are some scam merchants who pretend to be taxi driver and try to charge you a fortune for the journey.

I chose the Hilton Grand Vacations Club on International Drive after reading the recommendations on TripAdvisor. Thank you everyone for your reviews, and I am including mine for others to benefit from.

We stayed at the HGVC in mid-October. A couple traveling with us stayed in the one-bedroom unit which included a full kitchen, living area, washer/dryer, screened-in balcony, separate bedroom, bathroom, and large whirlpool tub. My husband and I along with three children stayed in a two-bedroom unit which was exactly like the one-bedroom unit, with the addition of another bedroom, bathroom, and mini-kitchen. It was perfect for us. Our two teenage daughters had their own bedroom and bathroom, which meant we were able to get ready in the mornings in half the time it would have taken if we had stayed in a regular hotel room somewhere. Our nine-year-old slept on the fold-out couch in the living room. No complaints there, although most adults would prefer the wonderful Hilton beds. Even our seventeen-year-old noticed how comfortable the beds and pillows were. We stayed on Disney property the last time we visited Orlando when our kids were young and it was very convenient. Now that our kids were older and we had plans to spend four of our seven days doing non-Disney things, we wanted to stay somewhere else and get a little more value for the dollar.

The location couldn't have been better. It was extremely easy getting in and out of the property and going to our destinations using the directions provided during check-in. It only took about five minutes to reach either Disney or Universal. There are some very good restaurants located north on I-Drive, especially Bahama Breeze and Race Rock.

We stayed in building #2, and it was just like new. The building was very close to the main pool, deli, bar/grill, and play area. It was a very short walk to the pool at the other end of the property. We were only going to eat at restaurants that we don't have near our home, but ended up ordering from the Pizza Hut (located near the second pool) one evening when we were just too tired to go anywhere. It has a limited menu and I took the advice posted on this website and picked the pizzas up myself when they were ready. It saved us a $3.00 delivery charge and a 20% gratuity fee. We always returned to the hotel before 10 p.m. and never had a problem finding a parking space next to our building. The grounds and pool are immaculate and very resort-like. We were gone most of the time during the day, but there was always something going on at the HGVC including kids water games in the pool, arts/crafts, and evening outings for various age groups.

We would definitely stay at the HGVC again. I did not see a nicer property in the Disney/Universal area and unless you prefer to pay $700/night for a premier hotel room, you can't go wrong staying here.

The Hilton Grand vacations Club is an excellent hotel and a great option for those wishing to enjoy Orlando. My wife and I visited for a 4 night trip in November, 2006. It is 20 minutes from the airport, 5-10 minutes to both Disney and Sea World and 45 - 60 minutes to the beach. The staff were among the friendliest of any hotel staff I have ever interacted with and the resort is beautiful. I would definitely stay here again.

Some specifics:

Rooms: suite, 1 Br., 2 Br., 3Br. All are very clean, newly furnished have free wireless internet, have kitchens with stoves, refrigerators, microwaves, coffee makers and silverware / dishware. We had a problem with our phone when we arrived and it was fixed he next morning after one phone call (it would have been fixed earlier, but we got in late). Bathroom is spacious and very clean with plenty of towles.

Facilities: Outstanding! This is a new complex that is still under construction, but the construction is on the other side of the lake (there's a lake in the middle of the complex -- no swimming) and we didn't hear it al all, not even during the day when we were out at the pool. The hotel is built on a Tuscan theme and the artitecture is very cool. The pool is expansive, beautiful and very child friendly...4 feet at its deepest. There's a big waterfall and several fountains that add to the character. There are also two hot tubs, a bar and pool-side waiter/waitress service. Lots of loungers, tables and chairs and all the towels you want. In addition there is a second pool that is smaller with a hot tub on the other side of the complex. There is also a coffee shop/deli that serves breakfast sandwiches, coffee, lunch sandwiches and stocks some groceries / wine as well. Workout facilities looked great.

Children's activities: Great place for kids! Two nights a week they have free "drive-in" movies at the pool (outdoors). On a big screen they show a G or PG movie. Lots of kids watching on loungers or on floats in the water. They also have pool activities during the day such as make-your-own icecream sundaes and bingo.

The sales pitch: This is a "vacation club" -- sort of like a timeshare, but different. In any case, those who do not own a stake in Hilton's Vacation Club will be asked to attend a sales pitch where they will try and get you to sign up. Of course, you may decline the invitation. We signed up and were compensated $80.00 in cash for our time (1.5 - 2 hrs, including breakfast). There was little sales pressure to sign up or buy in and the sales staff was very professional.

  • Liked — kitchen in room, pool and hot tubs were great, staff very friendly and accomodating
  • Disliked — Concierge was not as helpful as the front desk staff and actually rude. However, this was the only rude person we encountered

We stayed here while visiting our daughter in Florida. This is a beautiful resort. The rooms are very nice and the beds were extremely comfortable. They have two great pools and a bar where you can get food as well. The people working there too were very helpful with any questions or problems you might have. We will be back here again for sure next year.

Every nightmare story you hear about timeshare resorts are squashed here. First, a little about the resot.

In a word, GORGEOUS. The rooms are very nicely appointed with modern appliances (black kitchen appliances, Bose surround sound system for the living room TV, etc.) and furnishings, WONDERFUL down bedding, and the place is well laid out. If you think you might need to do laundry, spend the little extra if you can to get the 1 bedroom suite. It has a stack washer & dryer nicely tucked into a closet (as well as a full size kitchen rather than a kitchenette) and the convenience of it proved to be priceless at the end of the trip. We never felt as though we were at a resort, but instead felt right at home. Sitting out on the balcony in 72 degree weather, over the beautiful pool at 9pm was pure heaven. Of course, there's also the jacuzzi tub which was perfectly suited for 2 persons. It was cheesey or sleezy like some in-room jacuzzis are, it was nice and tasteful. I didn't take any pictures of the room, but I can guarantee you that what you see on teh Hilton website is EXACTLY what you get.

In the room you'll find coupons for some nice freebies, including a very nice 5x7 vacation portrait, taken by the on-site photographer. We also were given at check-in coupons for free newspapers every day of our stay and 2 bottles of water.

We did have a small glitch at check-in, but why complain about it, it's not like it ruined our trip. Other than that, the resort staff were excellent. Everyone was kind, helpful, and courteous. In fact, the one thing that did go wrong was the cab we called for didn't show when it was supposed to and we had a wedding to get to at the Grand Floridian. Instead of calling another cab, the Hilton staff sent one of their 2 private limo cars to drive us, at no additional charge and without us asking. Above and beyond service for sure.

The location was excellent! We left home in a rush so things were forgotten but directly across the street was a full-fledged outlet mall to get in trouble with as well as a strip mall with, amongst other things, a large Publix grocery store and a Walgreens drugstore. There is an Outback Steakhouse there to I believe.

About the resort sales - I had one phone call on day 2 of our stay offering us $100 or 20K Hilton Honors points in exchange for a 90 minute breakfast or brunch presentation. We were interested in exploring a timeshare option at this resort so I clearly said I'm not into high pressured sales and that if I encounter this I am walking out. As promised, when we returned to the room later in the day I found a written guarantee with the invitation stating that there would not be any high pressured sales tactics. Guess what? It was true!

One last word of advice... if you have AAA, use it when you book the room. When I first looked at the rooms the rate was $175 for the full suite/apartment with large tub, kitchen & washer/dryer, and $145 for the smaller hotel-like room with kitchenette. Using AAA got rates of $130 and $103! I have seen the $103 drop to just under $100 as well, depending of course on when you go and availability.

We've stayed many places and have decided that this is our homebase of choice when in the Orlando/Lake Buena Vista area.

  • Liked — The comfort of the rooms; the fact that we were a short drive (15 min) from the parks, yet away from the tourist madness. Having the grocery store and outlets a short walk across the way was very nice too.
  • Disliked — The view of the backlot construction, but it's only temporary while they put up yet another fabulous building full of apartments!
  • Tips/Secrets — Use AAA when booking the room for a great room rate (use Hilton website), and use the portrait coupon that you receive. It's a nice picture and it's free!

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Hilton September 6-12. This is an absolutely beautfiul hotel. We had a king sized bed which was extremely comfortable. These rooms are suites that can accommodate up to 4 people (sofa pullout), washer and dryer. They are very well maintained.

The staff was very accommodating and friendly, although, I didn't have any contact with them except during our arrival. The safe in the room did not work and I didn't bother to use it because of my short stay. Rooms are cleaned every other day which I thought was fine.

The location is great, its close to the Premier malls, all the restaurants and the Publix supermarket which is very convenient and parking was free.
The only downsize was the phone call to attend one of their timeshare presentations . They offered us $100 rebate on our room, a free hot breakfast, or Disney or Seaworld tickets if we attended a 90 minute presentation. We opted out because of our tight schedule.

There is a Pizza Hut on the premises that will deliver to the rooms. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

After 5 months of hectic travel through Asia, Europe and the U.S. we decided to pamper ourselves at the Hilton Grand Vactions Club (HGVC), which turned out to be one of the better accommodation decisions we'd made during our travels.

Location-wise the HGVC is situated on Arezzo Way, and there's a Publix supermarket and a premium outlet mall both located across the road which made getting groceries and indulging in retail therapy dead easy. As we didn't want the hassle of getting lost and driving a car in Orlando, Venturing further afeild meant catching the i-Ride trolley bus (US$1) outside the HGVC's front gate. For fun parks the HGVC have a free shuttle to Universal studios and seaworld and Disney for US$10.

Rather than going for a studio which had only basic kitchen facilities, we booked an apartment suite. It was superb. Where most of the aparthotels we'd previously stayed at failed abysmally to live up to their claims of fully equipped kitchens, the HGVC's kitchen was loaded with every utensil and appliance we could think of and then some (there was even a blender!). The lounge/Dining area was similarly well appointed complete with a 30" TV and DVD as well as free wireless internet access. The Bedroom also had a 25" TV and the supersized king bed was incredibly comfy. Best of all the large bathrooms had a whirlpool bathtub as well a powershower. All the fittings and furnishings were spotless and it was obvious that a lot of thought had gone into setting the apartment up.

The HGVC's two pool areas were also pretty good, with the smaller one less busy, whilst the larger one had a poolside snack bar and more kids. On alternate nights poolside movies were screened and there was always poolside activities (the animal show was our favourite). Both pools are heated and there'a also hottubs. About my only gripe was the piped music in the pool areas, but that wasn't a biggie as volume levels were kept fairly low.

There were really only two very minor negatives with the HGVC. The first gotcha is the limited eating options at the HGVC. Although poolside snacks are available and there's a pizza hutt on the premises (why a blue-chip brand like the Hilton had a crappy pizza hutt on site was bit of a mystery), dining options at the HGVC were somewhat lacklustre and the few restaurants located close by also failed to shine. This wasn't a problem for us as we were keen to take full advantage of the apartments kitchen, but it might be an issue if you've booked a studio (which has limited kitchen facilities) or don't want to trek down i-Drive every night to dine. The second negative is that you'll recieve a phone call inviting you to a breakfast where you'll hear a pitch to buy timeshare. Thankfully they're not pushy and we only had the one timeshare phone call.

Those two minor grizzles aside, the HGVC was a fantastic spot and was so comfy we could easily have moved there permanently. The HGVC's positives definintely outweigh the negatives and I'd strongly reccomend it.

  • Liked — It was "just right", nothing was difficult and everything was luxurious
  • Disliked — We were surprised at the lack of dining options given the size of the resort
  • Tips/Secrets — If you're wanting to visit the Kennedy Space Centre (which by the way is totally excellent) and you dont have your own transport, try alligator tours who were brilliant and picked us up from the hotel
