I grew up in FL and went to Disney World on day trips rather often, but never stopped to experience some of the most amazing features of the park. I have always wanted to have dinner at California Grill and watch the fireworks over the castle. My darling husband made that a reality for me in December.
We checked in downstairs in plenty of time before the fireworks began. We told the CM that was our goal, and she told us to tell the CM when we got upstairs, which we did immediately. We were originally seated at a table where the castle was not visible from our table. We asked to be moved and ended up in the bar. (even though we had made our reservation months in advance...) We could see the fireworks, but sitting at a small bar table was not ideal. I noticed a few other patrons coming and going, but had no idea where or to until the fireworks show ended. Later we found that there was a viewing area outside. I really do not know why the CM that met us when we came in did not make us aware of this when we told him that it was the whole reason we had come to California Grill.
With all of that being said...the food was amazing. We started with a California Sushi roll and I had the Kabocha Squash Soup. For the main course, I had the Seared Diver Scallops and my husband had the Filet of Beef. Both were exquisite. We really enjoyed it.
After dinner, we walked out to the viewing area to enjoy the view of the Magic Kingdom. It is a lovely site.
Shortly after we visited, the restaurant was closed for refurbishment. I guess I will just have to go back and check out what they have done with the place...and see those fireworks.
