Boma has been one of my favorites since the first time we went there. Later, we took our 16 yr old for a surprise birthday trip and the Boma staff did her up right- dessert medley (with offerings not on the buffet), card signed by all the staff, etc. I have noticed over the years that the noise level is increasing, perhaps because Boma is part of the Disney dining plan and more families are going there. We noticed a big decrease in the overall loudness once it was past 8pm.
The meal is not to be rushed, but savored. Plates are small as they should be- this is a "taste of Africa" not "how many hippos can you consume..." Begin with a few spoonfuls of different salads, then a bit of soup, then maybe some bread and spreads, then up to the main courses. Everything is wonderful.
A nice draft beer and a relaxing dinner is a great way to end the day- and then if you have room some coffee and a nibble of sweet or two. Take your time... This is not a race.
I do not think we have ever had a poor or inattentive waitstaff, and making reservations is a big "yes." If you are dining without children, do go later for a quieter experience, free from young'uns dodging about with their plates.
