On our last day at WDW, we decided to treat ourselves to lunch at a sit down restaurant. The Disney reservation system was not working, sow e took our chances on just showing up. We only had to wait 10 minutes, with a pager, in the amazing lobby of this resort modeled after the Western Park Lodges. We knew there was the possibility of sassy interactions with the staff. We were not disappointed with Mountain Mama. She made the lunch a fun experience, but was also good at reading her guests and not pushing those who would not welcome her teasing. The restaurant was not busy on an early-May Tues. and our food arrived in about 15 minutes. Portions were large and the food surprisingly good. I had the turkey with cranberry mayonnaise, and a side of fries (and we managed to get ketchup without a lot of ribbing.) My daughter enjoyed the salmon BLT, which was open faced on herbed focaccia bread, with no side. We had no trouble omitting ingredients. This was our only meal at WDW that had the "Florida water! We had hoped all restaurants were now using the filtered water. The family next to us had several food allergies, and the chef came out of the kitchen and did a thorough questioning and explanation with the family, to make sure what they ordered would fit their dietary restrictions.
We were pleased with Whispering Canyon as our choice for what is a "fancy' restaurant for our family. After the meal,. we explored the lodge, the lovely grounds, and took the boat ride triangle to Ft. Wilderness, the Contemporary, and back to Wilderness Lodge.
