“The Most Ignorant Staff You Will Ever Encounter!!”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

Please take head and do not visit this Museum. Recently the Central Florida Cultural Organizations were hosting a swap event among similar groups, There were six sites which allowed access through membership with one of the other groups. The Mennello was one listed on the promotion, however when we arrived we were promptly advised we could not use our other participating membership for entry into their site. Trying to explain to the Higher than Thou - - better than you- - woman who was at the door would not listen said it was not valid and then had security arrive because she just didn't want to allow us entrance. The site may have had a good deal of informative pieces to view, however being told we were not wanted we left. We did manage to go to the other 4 sites ( didn't have to go to one as we are members ) and enjoyed each one. Therefore we recommend the Albin, Art HIstory Museum, Morse and the Orange County History Center as first options and strongly recommend you avoid the Mennello!

“Small Art Museum near Orlando Museum of Art”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

The museum is in the old Phillips house. He was one of the original orange tree magnates in central Florida. The museum has a permanent collection of Cunningham, a self-taught New England artist. Exhibits of outsider art change regularly. The gift store is good.

“A jewel”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

This museum is a jewel in Orlando. A beautiful mid-century home that has been used to its best purpose. Large windows overlooking a lake give a most unique opportunity for viewing wonderful art. The Earl Cunningham collection is really something to see. The colors are just amazing.

“Really? Native American?”
Reviewed February 12, 2010

Cunningham was from Maine.
You can view his Wikipedia entry here:

I was not impressed with his art. It is definately "folk art" - It was colorful and fun, but I don't really think it deserves a museum. The other exhibit that was there when I went to the museum, art about working in the depression years, was much better I thought.

The museum is very small. I didn't think it was worth the $4 admission charge,

“native amercian indian art”
Reviewed January 23, 2010

features the works of earl cunningham, it was marilyn manellos love of his work that is the reason it is on display today, she was a collector and admirer of his work and much of that on display was donated by marilyn and her husband michael. it is rumoured that jackie kennedy had one of his paintings. from what i understood earl cunningham love to visit the everglades and the seminole indian camps which is where he got his insipration, much of the work on display features american folk art of native indians and tee pees etc, nearly all of them featured boats on water, birds native to the area and sunsets. the musuem is only small, and there were only two rooms of art on display. the museum itself was perched alongside a lake (which makes for a nice stroll ) with modern scupltures on view within the grounds. as nice as his visions were i think i would have liked to know more about the seminole tribes too.
