“Great hotel and resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2007

My wife and I have just got back from staying at the JW Marriott,May 18th-26th.

What a great hotel and resort this is!

The main reason for visiting Orlando was our daughter had chosen it to be the venue for her wedding(which was held at Cypress Grove).Even though we are still young,in our 40's to late 40's the theme parks were of no interest to us,having done them all 5 years previous,so staying at a resort hotel was ideal. The JW Marriott was perfect for us.

We arrived quite late and very tired. The bell staff were very polite and courteous, which impressed us straight away. The lobby wasnt very busy and we didnt have to queue to check in.we were greeted with smiles and check was very smooth.we were also given a 10% discount card to use in the resturants(excluding alcohol).our room was exactely as we had wanted,8th floor with views of the pool, golf course, the ritz-carlton and surrounding area.

We had 2 queen size beds in the room,as requested, desk ,large tv,usually sort of stuff for this star hotel, still plenty of space to move around in.the bathroom was large by american standards with a tub, vanity top, toilet and a great walk in shower cubicle. There was plenty of towels and hot water whenever we wanted a shower. The room was very clean and the maid service was very good also, leaving a bottle of water every day and a couple of chocolates when they had finished the turn down service in the evening. There was only a small balcony which you could stand in,not big enough for chairs. We never used the air con that much, prefering to leave it off,but when we did it was easy to use and adjust.

The actually hotel itself is very impressive and very big.the public areas are very clean and do have nice carpets and fixtures.Being linked to the Ritz-Carlton,it was nice to walk along the wide corridors through the conference centre between the the 2 hotels.

There is a good choice of restaurants and a few small shops. We used the gift shop for water, sweets etc.Starbucks for coffee's and cakes on numerous occasions.Breakfast was in the Citron restaurant.Buffet style or A La Carte. We ate buffet breakfasts mainly which were fantastic,as much as you wanted for about $40 for 2(after discount),never needed lunch that often after the breakfasts we had, sometimes never needed dinner either!Citron did get very busy between 10 and 11,but the wait was only about 10 minutes. We only ate in Citron in the evening a couple of times, and then it was only burgers and club sandwiches, which were about $15-$20.

We had a lovely meal in Primo, the Jw's Italian restaurant.Very good service and very good food.It was $201 excluding tip for 3 courses,2 bottles of water ,3 glasses of wine between us and a single malt whisky(and that was $18,ouch!).very good value though i think(apart from the whisky).

The lobby lounge bar is very nice.It does get very busy in the evening and very noisy.Service can be very slow between 9-11pm.It also has a sushi bar and food can ordered from the citron as well. The alcohol is very expensive in the lounge bar,$6 for a bottle of beer or half a pint of draft beer,$11 for a glass of wine,$13 for a cocktail. You did get free cashew nuts and spicey peas though!

We ate in Quench(the poolside restaurant) once and had a burger and a wrap,a beer and a coke for $30 which was very good, big portions as well.

The Vineyard Grill at the Ritz-Carlton was very good. They specialise in steaks and they were very good indeed. We had our daughters wedding meal there. The staff were great and the food excellent.Just as a guide starters $12-$16,mains$36-$52 and deserts at about $15.

The gym at the ritz-carlton was free for hotel guests and very well equipped. Our daughter used the hair salon for her bridal practice and up do,plus french manicure.she was very impressed with the service they provided.

We never used the pool so couldnt comment, but it did look very good.

I did use the golf course though, and it was wonderful!A truly great designed course and very challenging. You could choose which ever tee you wanted to play, the practice facilitys were excellant and the staff were very helpful.I was the only golfer in my party, but never played alone which was very good. The rates changed while we were staying there, but at the moment it is $95 before 2pm and $65 after 2pm,it was $195 a round when we arrived.

Overall the hotel and resort is excellent and the service provided by all the staff was great.we never had a problem for the 8 days we stayed there. The weather was good as well.

My husband & I stayed at the JW Marriott for a quick weekend getaway Memorial Day weekend (May 26-28th). The hotel itself and the service is top notch. Everything was very clean, from the hotel rooms to the pool bathrooms. We were impressed.

The food was fantastic at all the places we ate at Citron (JW Marriott) for breakfast, lunch & dinner, as well as at the Vineyard at the Ritz. If you want to eat at Norman's (Ritz) guys have to wear guy closed toe shoes and pants. We were told that Norman's was "resort casual" and apparently when we showed for dinner this was not the case. Sandals and nice shorts are not allowed. Norman's is Business Casual.

The pools are nice, the lazy river is defintely lazy. You have to walk a little bit to go with the flow. It would have been great if the lazy river had more of a current.

The only complaint we have is that the pool was packed with people. In the water and out of the water. It was nearly impossible for us to find beach chairs at the pool after 2PM. It looked as if a lot of people had thrown towels on chairs and left them there all day. And there were a lot kids, and families. There was even an "accident" in the pool on Sunday which caused the Marriott to close the pool for the remainder of the afternoon/evening while the staff cleaned and shocked the pool. That was a little bit of a bummer, but with all the kids, it was bound to happen sooner or later. The kiddie pool is connected to the lazy river and larger pools which we found interesting. It would've been nice to have an Adult only pool on the property.

This is one of the very best hotel in Orlando. It is similar to the Omni Resort, but even better standard. Gosh they cant do enough for you. If you need anything, or call room service, you get a call afterwards to ask if everything was okay with your order, or whatever it is you need. My colleague forgot her toothbrush, called to see if she could buy another one, the hotel sent someone up with a tray full of array of, name it, toothbrush, creams, cleansers, buttons, needle, zips, dental floss, shoe polish, painkillers, exfoliators, (just like a mini shop) to pick whatever she needs at no extra price. The room is extra luxurious, the bathroom is gorgeous. The foyer has an amazing atmosphere. The pools are absolutely amazing with the lazy river, jacuzzi, e.t.c There is a sandpit for children and slides, just stunning. The breakfast buffet was amazing. I only wish the hotel is on International Drive or thereabout. I will definitly go back with my family.

The JW Marriott is a large hotel with a large nearby partner, the Ritz Carlton. The hotels are set on extremely well groomed grounds. I am not sure of the acreage, but part of the grounds are dedicated to a good sized man-made lake and a golf course.

The large hotel has a very spacious lobby, and off the lobby is a well appointed bar where one can also get snacks. The waiters and waitresses are quite congenial.

There are two restaurants, and although we only ate in the one on the first floor, people who ate in the lobby level restaurant told us it was quite good. Our experience in the lower level cafe was quite good. The food was well prepared and the service was excellent.

There are several shops in the hotel, all overpriced, but very attractive.

Our room was a corner room, and we were very pleased with it. The room was generous, and the bath was clean and very well decorated. The hallways are very well illuminated and also struck us as being very clean. The elevators are very fast and there is no long wait when you press the call button.

Although we didn't use the pool, it is large, and appears very well kept.

The housekeeping service was very good.

We have only a single negative thing to say about this hotel. We like the room to be quite cool while we sleep, and the easy to use thermostat was able to be easily set, however, we think it was in error. Even though the thermostat would indicate that the temperature was in the low sixties, we were warm at night. We estimate that it was off probably five degrees. We could have complained about this, but in staying at the hotel four days we learned to compensate for innacurate settings.

Perhaps if we were to say anything else negative about this hotel, it would be that there is nothing nearby. We flew in for a meeting, but if there is any option, a guest should have an automobile. You must have access to a car or take a cab. There is no way one can walk to nearby businesses. Although you can walk to the adjacent Ritz Carlton down a very long corridor the facilities are about the same.

Although our meeting brochure indicated that the hotel was near the airport, I would argue that point with the author. It was a forty or forty five dollar drive to the airport without a tip.

The hotel is pricey, but quite frankly, we didn't feel that we were ripped off as we have felt in a number of other pricey hotels. We have no difficulty in recommending this property to others

We stayed here with our two sons ages 6 and 8 for the first two nights of our five night stay in Orlando. My husband had a conference so it was free. The hotel is beautiful - the grounds and pool are lovely. The restaurant on the ground floor, Citroen, was delicious and had awesome breakfasts too with tons of local fruit. The staff was very courteous and kind to our family and we sat outside every night to eat an early dinner. That was lots of fun. The room was a bit small - I think they usually have business travellers not families. We requested a fridge and it was sent right up. For the last three nights (when it was on our dime) we moved to the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Lake Buena Vista which was much cheaper and totally adequate.

Stayed two nights while waiting to get into the pool house we rented in Orlando. Nice room and super luxurious bedding, but overpriced for ammenities available. Only one morning and lunch restaurant--Citron. Almost always a long wait, but food was good. Went to Primo, Italian dinner restaurant for birthday dinner--a disaster. Horrible food and pre-ordered birthday cake was forgotten by the waitress. Don't go to this restaurant! I think it was filled with overflow from Citron, people that didn't want to wait to go to Citron, all of whom were sorry they didn't wait. Did not compare to renting a pool house, although pool was fine.

The hotel itself is pretty and the service is good, however I would recommend this hotel mainly for business people. We were in Florida for a family vacation and elected to stay at this property for a few days. We have stayed at hotels that cater to a lot of conventions and have had this problem. The conventioners literally "take over" the hotel. During the day, the chatter at the pool revolves around what happened the previous evening. In the evening, once they start drinking, they become obnoxious and loud even using foul language at times in the lobby bar and restaurants. Not exactly the type of atmosphere I want to return to after a long day at a theme park! Also, a car is a necessity if you want to leave the property. There is a Walgreens on the corner of Centra Fla parkway and John Young. That's about the closest thing to the property, but it's a very, very long walk even just to get off the grounds to the main street. Hotel about 15 minutes to the airport going through two toll booths on the 528 for a total of $1.75 in tolls.
Next door is the Ritz Carlton. You actually have full charging privileges over there. Their pool was packed even though it is not even anywhere half as nice as the JW. Maybe because of the padded lounge chairs - really comfortable. During the entire time we were there, we had full service from the bartenders walking around taking orders at the pool. I cannot stand the hotel's float policy. The hotel sells blue and pink round pool floats for $5 for the pool (which you can take home afterwards) or you can bring your own. When we first walked out we assumed the floats were for everyone since there were so many lying around. We quickly found out that we had to purchase them when we were yelled at by a group of rowdy conventioners after we picked up one of their floats which was literally just floating around in the pool. My gripe is that the hotel needs to inform guests of this policy upon check in. Oh, we tried to deflate our floats on the last day and found out that it is extremely hard to do. As a result, we left all of our floats out at the pool before we went home.
The accomodations themselves are a regular size Marriott room, but plush. The bed was divine. The bath area marble and granite. Large, oversized robes.
Food is very good. The breakfast buffet is amazing, with absolutely everything you could ever think of to consume for breakfast including eggs benedict made to order, made to order french toast, waffles, pancakes, omlettes, you name it.
Shopping was limited to a few stores and a large Starbucks. We did see a few families at the hotel, but not enough to feel like we were really on a family vacation. We would not return for our next vacation.

  • Liked — PLush, good food, relaxing and very large pool
  • Disliked — Too many conventioners, did not feel like we were in Orlando
