Too much time and money spent by management selling timeshares, not enough time and money doing housekeeping and basic maintainence. Breakfast buffett was awful and expensive. Room was nice but again basic maintainence was lacking. Room safe did not work, closet glass door hanging off hinges. House keeping basically just gives you towels, when they show at all. Pool was very noisy untill after midnight EVERY night, kids yelling, loud radios. They literally had dozens of people pushing time shares but were understaffed everywhere else. I would not stay there again.

I am surprised at all the negative comments made about this resort. I think some people must expect perfection. It is not much different than staying in a hotel as far as noise is concerned. The accommodations are MUCH NICER than a hotel. We stayed in an efficiency on the first floor in February 2004 across from a pool and absolutely had a wonderfully relaxing week. I would recommend staying here!

We purchased a half unit (studio) in 2002. Our first week stay was outstanding. Of course the hospitality was great because they wanted you to purchase the other half. Reception was great, assigned representative was extremely helpful, that's because he was working up to the sales pitch. We purchased the other half (2/bdrm) after the sales pitch. We stayed in the 2/bdrm this year. Hospitality was awful, we made several calls to contact our representative, calls which were never returned, neither did he come. The carpets could do with a good shampooing (after paying close to $800 for the maintainance annually), one would think they would at least clean the carpets. The tiled floors was broom clean only. We couldn't walk around with our shoes off because of the dirt. On two days we found silver fish and spring tails (bugs) in the bathroom area. The bathroom and areas around the tubs need to be re-caulked and sealed properly. The unit was not in the condition we expected. Maintaince fees should be put to use by upkeeping these units in immaculate condition. The entry keys did not work all the time. Several times we were outside fiddling with the locks trying to get in. The kids activities are a joke. The "make your own Sundae" needs to be better organized. That was terrible. The basketball gametime was not supervised. The older kids and grown men hugged the court. Smaller kids sat around waiting to participate, but it never happened. The younger kids, including my son had to leave eventually. They need to have several courts with assigned by age for their game activities. The pools were always crowded and noisy with kids. A fight actually broke out among a group of teenagers. We was apalled! The coupons given at sign-in are a joke. Can you imagine getting a coupon for one cookie? We refused to tender that coupon. Be prepared to pay for everything. Shortly after leaving we realized that we had forgotten an item in the room. We left a message for lost and found and was informed that we would be called back. We're still awaiting that call after three weeks. Overall, owning a unit at this resort is good, but they need to be more hospitable to owners and not so intent on trying to sell you. If they've sold you one unit your first stay would be showered with kindness and hospitality because they're preparing you for the next stage of buying. Once they've sold you an entire (whole) unit you could forget service! You're on your own, even after check-in! Don't even think of being escorted to your unit. Find it yourself!!! Thank goodness for the opportunity to travel other places, because our purchase would have been a big mistake. We are in the market to sell and maybe purchase elsewhere. If you know of a timeshare broker please contact us.

We booked Westgate Lakes for the first part of our journey around florida and the gulf coast. We spent nearly 2 hours waiting in the queue for registration!!
The room we had was great , it overlooked the pool, it was spacious and clean. We then decided to book back into Westgate Lakes for our journey back, bearing in mind the wait we had, we thought it would be worth it. We asked at the front desk, if they had any rooms available, they told us we had to go to registration. This was at 11.15pm, 1 hour later we got to speak to the guy on registration, only to be told they had got no rooms available - was it worth the wait - no I would not give Westgate Lakes another chance , even though the rooms were nice, the service was non existent, I would not recommend that you stay as your holiday could be over by the time you get to check in !!!!

As we were driving to Orlando, we saw about a million billboards directing us to deals on Disney, Sea World, Universal, etc. Since we had nothing planned to do on the day we arrived we decided to take their "90 minute" time share tour to save money on our tickets. We had no intent of buying into their time share.

When we arrived at the resort our salesman greeted us and took us to lunch which consisted of hot dogs and possibly the worst salad I've ever tried to eat in my life. After a lengthy intorduction, which we expected, we were put on a golf cart and shuttled thru the very large resort by our ever so friendly salesman. We were impressed with the appearance of the property but still had no intent to buy.

Once we were finally told the price to buy into the timeshare we were floored. The price was $22,000 payable in monthly installments of $436 at 17.99% interest over 5 years with $4000 down! Who in their right mind would pay that kind of interest even if they did want to buy ? Of course everyone if preapproved, there are no credit checks whatsoever. We were shocked even more to see people all around us signing up for this. Every time someone signed up a manager would announce to the salespeople to take unit "X" off of their inventory list. The announcement was all for show since obviously numerous people can own the same timeshare unit. It should be illegal to take advantage of people this way.

Once we finally told our salesperson NO enough times to get it through his head, he excused himself and we over to his manager. After we waited for about 10 minutes his manager came over and still tried to convince us to sell our soul to them. After telling her no, she presented us with a special deal. She said someone had just bought a 6 bedroom 4 bath unit and needed to sell his 3 bedroom unit. She got the price down to $16,000 with $200 down. We were sill not interested and getting very sick of having to tell people no. Then she and our 1st salesman left us sitting again for about 10 minutes wondering who they were going to send over to us next. At this point all we wanted was our Sea World tickets and a ride back to our car. We finally had to hunt a guy down and ask him how to get our tickets. A 3rd person was directed to us. He wanted to drag this thing out once again and things got a bit heated when I asked his how many people we must say no to before we can leave. We had to find the desk where we were to pick up our tickets on our own.

Once they saw that we were not going to buy they were very rude and not helpful at all about giving us our tickets or helping us back to our car. We had no idea where we were on the very large resort or how to get back to our car. When we asked how to get back they were very vague. We did not get to ride on the golf cart, we had to walk about a mile back to our car.

As frustrating as this whole experience was, we have a really funny story to tell when we get back home. We are just amazed that this is legal and that there are people falling for this sales pitch.

BEWARE - BEWARE - BEWARE

My family just returned from our first vacation at Westgate Lakes after becomming owners in 2002. Overall, our stay was a positive experience - our 2 BR room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Our unit has a nice view of the lake and pool. I really enjoyed the fitness center and my wife enjoyed a trip to the spa for a manicure.

I do have some comments, because when you pay for and are promised a 5-star resort, everything should be outstanding or very close. The registration/customer service area is very noisy and congested. The pools are packed with tons of kids in the evening and into the night. So if you want to use the pools, go early and get out before about 6:00 PM.

I liked that our service representative went to the room with us initially to make sure everything was acceptable. It was a good thing because the card keys for our unit didn't work. This was corrected promptly. However, later in the week, the keys stopped working and we had to stand outside our door for 30 minutes before Security arrived to let us in.

A meeting with our service representative to discuss our stay turned out to be another sales pitch! A manager came over and said that the 2BR/studio combination we had purchased for every other year was very limiting and would negatively impact our trading potential. Not only did we have to say "no" a few times, we had to sign a waiver for our right to this GREAT opportunity to buy a larger share of Westgate Lakes. This was also done in the area where the timeshare sales pitches were being conducted. EXTREMELY noisy and we were frequently interupted by "May I have your attention please - take Unit 1234 off the inventory. We have a another new owner at Westgate Lakes." Give me a break!
