“Nice and roomy and close to Universal”
Reviewed August 18, 2011

The condo/ room we had was a 2 bedroom unit. It had a full/queen in the master with a jetted tub and a tiled shower. Very nice. In the living room there was an island where we ate dinners and breakfast and part of it was the living are with a large flat panel tv and a leather pull out sofa. In the 2nd bedroom there were 2 twin beds, a wadrobe and a tv as well. There was a 2nd bathroom that could be accessed from the kitchen/living room or from the 2nd bedroom.

The check-in process was smooth and easy. We were in our room within 15 minutes.

The pool was big enough. It was never crowded, even on the week-end evenings. It was always too hot for us to go during the day. There was also a kiddie pool that was probably 2 feet deep. The kids (ages 3,5) loved this pool. There is no life guard. There were usually pool towels at the pool's sauna area readily available.

There are DVD rentals in the lobby. We didn't find out til the last night of our trip. We had previoulst gone to Redbox to rent movies the week prior.

There is no resteraunt on site. However, at their sister property: Westgate Lakes there is the smokehouse grill and the food was great. We receieved a coupon book from guset services and the meal was 50% off. The coupon book also has many other resteraunts and particiapting area attractions who will give %off of admission prices. That helped alot.

Parking was the WORST on week-ends. So much so that we had to park on the grass (parking attendant led us there) and after the amusments parks close on week-ends parking is terrible. But through the week there was no problem at all finding parking.

Room service doesn't come everyday unless requested but that wasn't so bad because we do not like people in our rooms unnecesarily. When we needed stuff we would just ask.

There is a shuttle from Westgate to area attractions. You do have to sign up the day before and there are scheduled times for going and coming.

I didn't visit the bar at the hotel located near the pool. But saw many people there relaxing.

Overall this was a clean property with nice accomodations. Much better than a hotel.

My husband and I purchased a rental week and did have to sit through a short (30 minutes) talk about purchasing the timeshare. We didn't purchase and they sent us on our way. Included in the 30 minutes was breakfast on Westgate. The breakfast was not the best but it was free so I will not complain. Happy travels!

I have stayed at many Westgate Resorts properties in Orlando, and this was the first time for the Westgate Palace. Unlike most of the other Westgate Resorts, the Palace is two 18 story towers. Very centrically located at the gates to Universal Studios Orlando and just two minutes walking distance to Wet N’ Wild and one block away from International Drive.

The two-bedroom was smaller than I’m used to from Westgate, but it was still suitable for a family of 2 adults and 4 kids. The property has a very nice lakefront pool, but not enough parking when the hotel is full. Although this is a time share property, you do not have to take a tour to get a good rate. Skip the welcome packet as this is where they try to entice you to tour (free attraction tickets, etc)

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor. To one side you have Universal Studios and to the other in the dista...

Pros: This is a pretty good place for families. The "condos" are just as advertised and are basically two bedroom suites. They are nice but the rooms are kind of small. There really wasn't a place to put bags in the rooms. The bathrooms were really nice and there were plenty of towels.

Cons:

-They try to sell you timeshares, etc.when you check-in. The staff get pretty unfriendly when they realize you are not interested.

-Checkout time is 10 am.

-A lot of large families stay here and it can be pretty loud, even at night.

-The parking lots really don't feel safe. There are always a bunch of people hanging around and driving around. At night, the property feels the need to have an empty cop car parked at the entrance.

-Security is pretty lax. It was clear people not staying in the hotel were walking around and there were tons of solicitations under the door of the room.

-Do not order pizza from an off site place. See my review on pizza mania.

Overall, it was a pretty good value, but I think I will be staying at a name brand place next time.

Thank you for writing and sharing your comments regarding accomodations with us this weekend. We are most concerned regarding the safety of our guests and increase security officers based on occupancy levels. We did have one officer on property Friday,Saturday and Sunday for additional coverage. The months of July and early August are the greatest demand for room accomodations with occupancy at 95% plus.
We do hope that in the future you will give us another opportunity to service your accomodations.

I booked this hotel not knowing it is also a timeshare. We had a very pleasant stay, other than the sales pitch about the time share. I mean they can make you aware about thew the timeshare and stop at that. Also if you are looking for a full pledge hotel this is not for you. It feels more like a condo than a hotel. no bell hop or anyone to help you with your luggage, other than that the hotel is very nice and the front desk is pleasant enough to help. Also it is close to everything attraction, food etc.

We stayed four nights at the Westgate Palace. We arrived shortly before the 4:00 P.M. check-in time and were greeted by the front desk and allowed to check in. The check in process was quick and efficient. The rooms, a two bedroom two bath condo with a living room and kitchen, were very clean and very quite.

We were going to the Universal Studios theme parks and this location was ideal. Universal is just down the road and took less then five minutes to get there. Shopping and many restaurants are near by but a car or bus is recommended to get there.

We will definitely stay there again if going to Orlando.

We live about an hour away but come to Orlando a few times a year for a weekend outing with our 4 kids. Needing extra space is what drove me to check out the Westgate Palace and the rates made me want to stay. We stayed in a 2-bedroom 2-bath suite that was spacious and comfortable with a full kitchen and washer/dryer which is exactly what we needed for our large family. We also usually bring food and snacks to cut some of our dining costs which worked out great in the well supplied kitchen. The pool was large, warm and clean. No slides but great nonetheless. There are some activities for kids/families througout the day - most with small fees. My 6-year old particularly enjoyed the hotel supplied food for the duck feeding. There is not a huge lobby or lots of restaurants but that suited us fine as we went to Citywalk (Universal Studios is about 1 mile away) and to the CoCo Key Waterpark/hotel about 3 blocks away (nice waterpark at bargain weekday price for FL residents). The hotel is on a lake right across from a large waterpark, Wet and Wild. It is only a mile away from the "Fun Spot" which has lots of go-karts and other activities and across the street from Pirates Dinner Adventure (not very much fun for us). There are go-karts and the sling shot and a ferris wheel about 2 blocks away and shopping is everywhere on I-drive within walking distance. The best part for us was the rooms at the hotel and the pool (which were great) since we were gone most of the other time anyway. There is a small basketball court and playground which were also nice.

Room Tip: Got a nice discount with AAA rate

I have just returned from a two week vacation at the Westgate and overall I was satisfied with the accommodation. The two room condo was perfect for two adults and two teenage boys. The location is five mins by car from Universal Studios, and Wet and Wild is within walking distance. My only comment would be the rooms furniture is a little dated.

Room Tip: Families with small children, should be aware that the pool does not have a life guard on duty.
