We had an outstanding experience staying in our two bedroom suite for a week at this property. I traveled with my wife, mother and father in law, and my 10 month old daughter--all of whom (except the baby, she can't) agree that this resort was perfect for our vacation. The layout of our room was ideal for our unique travel group--my in laws stayed in the master suite which had a king bed and its own bathroom, while my wife, daughter, and I stayed in the second bedroom. The second bedroom had two twin beds, another bathroom, and the staff was happy to accommodate our request for a pack-and-play for the baby to sleep in. We were not in one of the updated rooms, but we still found the accommodations to be very clean and comfortable, and certainly not dated. We took advantage of the kitchen and dining areas every day, and there were more than enough kitchen supplies for our whole group. We also really enjoyed the living room area of the suite, which had a nice comfortable couch and two large chairs.
We were in building 29 which faced the smaller kids pool, and despite our proximity to the recreational areas, we never found the noise level to be an issue. This was great for us, because that nearby pool area also had a small wading pool that was the perfect height for our little girl--that was where we spent the majority of our pool time. The wading pool was very nice--not only was the size ideal for our baby, it also had a canopy draped over top of it so that we were not overcome by the Florida/July heat, and we also didn't feel the need to keep applying additional layers of sunscreen. We spent a little time in the pirate ship and slide pools, but primarily the wading pool was our top choice. We bought the weekly pass for the mini golf course--it was only $30 for the entire week for everyone staying in our room, which is a great deal when you consider that a single round is $6 (If memory serves). The course was surprisingly fun--I was anticipating a very boring and short course, but this one was large and challenging.
We ate at both of the on-property restaurants and they were OK but nothing special. At the Outpost we just got cocktails which were a little pricey ($6-8, depending on the drink) but that is to be expected at a hotel such as this. The Patio was a standard outdoor bar and grill type restaurant which had reasonably priced options ($10-15) like burgers and fish tacos. The resort is just off of International Drive, which has just about any restaurant that anyone could want, so there is certainly no shortage of options nearby if these two options don't meet your needs.
And speaking of location, I'm not sure that there is a better option available. I could understand if you were in Orlando only to visit Disney that maybe you would want to stay at one of their resorts, but for our group which had a number of places we wanted to see, Harbour Lake's location could not have been better. We visited Universal's Isles of Adventure (15 min drive), Magic Kingdom (25 min drive), Downtown Disney (15 min drive), the Premium Outlets (20 min drive), and a number of other places all along International Drive. And don't get me wrong, there are certainly places closer to all of these attractions, but what is great about Harbour Lake is that it is very near to ALL of them, but also is far enough away that traffic is a non-issue. There is also a Publix grocery store that's only 10 minutes away, which we used to stock up our in-suite kitchen.
The last thing I'd like to emphasize about this place is that the staff truly knows what customer service means. They contacted us 2 weeks before our visit to see if we had any specific needs, which we did and they were happy to accommodate those needs. Within an hour of our arrival, they brought us a high chair, and a pack-and-play for our baby to sleep in, as well as a washable cover to go over it. The day before our arrival, there was a storm that affected our TV, but the hotel sent up staff to fix the issue on our first day that we were there. And on top of that, every single member of staff that we encountered seemed genuinely happy to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Really just an outstanding team they have.
I could honestly go on and on about this place but the fact is that this resort is top notch, from every possible aspect. We will almost certainly be returning in the very near future.
