“Crazy Hectic”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

Crazy hectic self serve combo food court/gas station food. You order via touch screen so you cannot make any changes or ask for any substations or requests. then you proceed to a gas station type refrigerator section to choose a drink --- small container of orange juice $2.50. You pay for everything at once then take your receipt to wait for your food which will be served to you on a paper plate. We bought one breakfast platter, one Mickey waffle, one child's plate waffle, and one breakfast sandwich, a choc milk and a coffee and spent $50. My pet peeve is eating "real" food on a paper plate. I don't mind a sandwich or a hamburger on a paper plate but who wants to eat eggs or waffles with syrup on a paper plate. My kids scavenged for a table (that's a whole different Disney event -- finding a table anywhere you go) and we cleaned it with wipes I had in my bag. Stepped in egg left on the floor by previous people. The only people working there are the three or four people behind the counter cooking and the two ladies at the cash register. There is no one actually cleaning the dining room. Nothing special at all about the food. I did not have young kids there --- but was feeling the pressure of every other mom there with small children. It is crazy hectic trying to keep up with people, order food, find drinks, pay, etc. Kids and people were going everywhere. I was so ready to get out of there. The ONLY thing I liked about this restaurant was the Dole Whip available. It was a nice treat at night (when no one else was in the restaurant.) This is definitely NOT a deluxe hotel. All the restaurants are way too small for the number of people they are trying to service.

“Make your own Dole Whip and Tonga Toast”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

The highlights of this quick service location are the Tonga Toast that was previously only served at the Kona Cafe upstairs and make your own Dole Whip machine (previously you could only get Dole Whips at the Magic Kingdom). The popularTonga Toast is thick French toast stuffed with bananas and covered in cinnamon sugar. Being able to get it for breakfast without needing a reservation was good thinking on someone's part. As is the Dole Whip machine. You are free to pile your swirl as high as you can make it without toppling the spire of creamy goodness. With a steady hand and patience I made a Dole Whip that was probably twice as high as the ones you would be served at Aloha Isle. Not that I NEEDED that much Dole Whip but it was just the challenge. Captain Cook's can be pretty busy and noisy but there is outside seating overlooking the lush Polynesian grounds.

“3:00 pm, madness. INSANE CHAOS”
Reviewed November 12, 2013

Please add another counter service restaurant to the resort. This place is fine when not crowded, but when a flight arrives it is just a waiting nightmare. I suggest distributing the mugs for each family somewhere other then the cashiers at this restuarant, as the two ladies at Captain Cookes are handling everything and teaching the guests about the meal plan. It took me 49 minutes to order, pay and finally get 4 cheeseburgers on Monday 11/11 at 3:00 pm. The burgers were decent, but the experience is so offputting that it was hard to enjoy lunch.

“Go for the Tonga Toast not the atmosphere”
Reviewed November 11, 2013

We tried the Tonga Toast after hearing about how delicious it is - it was so good, we came back the next morning to have it again. The coffee is very rich and delicious. We will be back for Tonga Toast and coffee and try to ignore the long lines, utter confusion behind the counter, touch screens and separate pay stations which no one seems to understand. The two maple syrup dispensers were totally empty (at 9 am) and once I pointed it out someone refilled one dispenser. There were cleaners hovering around the tables, but seemed to disappear when a table emptied. I saw people cleaning their own tables more than once. There were kids darting in and out everywhere - it's Disney and expected. Service is slower than slow and the cashiers were borderline rude, but I imagine I wouldn't be too happy working there either. Grab your Tonga Toast and coffee and go sit outside as this resort is very tropical and beautiful and thankfully, a bit more quiet!

“worst trip experience”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

Had an amazing week at Saratoga Springs. Then came to Polynesian for quick service lunch to use up dining plan credits on our last day. Expected top notch since it's the poly....a famous and expensive place, right? Service was so slow that I almost missed my flight home. Husband was fuming in the car waiting for our meals to-go. Not sure if we just hit it on an off day (lots of people seemed to be checking in), but the entire staff seemed confused and inefficient. Only 2 cashiers and 1 was stuck resolving a meal plan issue (waiting for mgmt to come) and the other was fumbling with refillable mug activations. The line was getting longer and longer to the point that customers were debating walking away without food. I am amazed that this would occur at one of Disney's best properties during a busy lunch time. Management really needs to step in here to re-evaluate the entire process. Saratoga has it nailed...they need to spend some time over there getting educated.
