“2nd time around and still great”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

I am a bit late writing this review, this was our 2nd time staying at AKL and as the 1st time our 2nd time around was great. This 2nd time around we chose pool view rather than savannah view since we had already done so the previous year plus we were hoping to be closer to the buses, once we arrived we were upgraded to savannah view with bunk bends (free of charge) which was awesome but we were a bit far still can't complain who would refuse a free upgrade. The hotel pool is huge! We were under the Disney meal plan which I kind of like since you can also use towards the character meals. My favorite part of staying here was the extra magic hours to the parks (we chose park hopper option so we could go to one park in the am then go back to hotel nap/swim then head back out to another park in the pm). Hotel is a bit far from the parks (except animal kingdom) but its so beautiful and waking up to those beautiful animals so worth it.

Room Tip: If possible choose savannah view on 3rd or 4th floor.

We stayed 5 nights in a standard room with one adult and two teenagers. The bunk beds plus queen bed arrangement worked well for us. I wouldn't pay for an upgraded view since even in our standard room we saw four giraffes close by, many large birds, and other animals right off our balcony. Even the teens were amazed at how close they were. We used Disney's Magic Express from the airport and had them transport our bags to the room. There were no problems with this. We checked one carry on with the bell service and went to a park while our room was still being prepared. With the teens not wanting to get up too early, parents can grab items like bagels, peanut butter, creme cheese, and drinks to bring back up to the room for a quick breakfast before heading to the buses. We were surprised to find a bus waiting for us about 55 minutes prior to park opening for Typhoon Lagoon, which was better than the advertised time of 30 minutes prior. This allowed us to get to the water park and ride everything within the first 90 minutes with no wait that was more than five minutes. I would definitely recommend buying the refillable plastic cups at the resort. You can get unlimited coffee, ice water, soda, lemondade, etc. every day. We started with buying drinks and using water bottles, but everyone disliked the taste of the local water except for that which we got from the soda machine. Many families filled their cups and brought them with them to the parks to finish drinking, then stashed them in their backpack. The cups are not refillable at the parks, but we still saved a lot of money doing this since a bottle of water is near $3.00. The resort is beautiful and even though not the closest to parks, this made is less traveled by others and the pool was relaxing. We only had one long wait for a bus one time in 5 days and this was probably 20-30 minutes due to large crowds after fireworks and rain. Even the express cafe offerred a daily special and sometimes this had an ethnic flair to it which parents will like. Kids can still get the standard items like bacon cheeseburgers. The visitors staying at the lodge were very diverse and international and the staff was always professional and friendly.

Last year was our first time staying there and the experience was priceless. I would have recommended it to everyone. However this year we stood for 7 days and everyday was worst and worst. Our room had hair all over the place it was disgusting. The refrigerator was broken, the iron burned our clothes and the coffee make leaked all over the place. The staff was nice except for a select few that were very rude and again the same as last year to food was HORRIBLE!!! I definitely would not stay there ever again.

We chose the Animal Kingdom due to its proximity to the disney parks.

The room was very disappointing, very small, not enough room to unpack for the 4 of us and no bath.

The bedding was of poor quality and the breakfast in the hotel completely overpriced.

We tried room service one night after a long day in the parks, only to be told it would be 1hr wait at least.

Room Tip: Rooms in the lodge are excellent for views of the Zebra and Giraffe.

Disney always does it all the way and Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo House, is no exception. You pull off the highway and are whisked away to the African jungle landscape. You feel far off but are located are right on the route to all the parks have to offer. The exterior of the lodge is perfect for the environment Disney is creating. The lobby is large and open and filled with interesting African art. The staff is pleasant and professional. The rooms are very clean and the theme is complete. When not at the park, I am on my deck enjoying the peace and quiet. The animals graze and come and go at will. They are not contained to remain in your view throughout the day. It is a natural environment. You will see giraffe, zebra, comedic Red River Hogs, wildebeests, delicate gazelles, a variety of birds and more. A peaceful way to begin and end your day touring Disney. There are also paths for walking the exterior of the savannahs to view the animals. Boma restaurant has a delicious breakfast buffet (the morning Jamba juice is a refreshing blend for your taste buds) and there is an extensive African style dinner buffet. One can experience new flavors or find standards. The large pool is designed to resemble a savannah watering hole. The trams run regularly and are well scheduled. One can get to all the parks with no problems.
I live in Clearwater and I look forward to stays at Animal Kingdom Lodge. AKL is an experience I always go back for.

Room Tip: If you are staying at this hotel, the fee for the Arusha view room is well worth it for animal viewi...

This was the second time we have stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge and we loved every second of it. I strongly recommend spending the extra money for a room with a view of the animals. Disney resorts are all unique in their own way but not many resorts can boast that they offer views of giraffes, cranes, zebras, hogs, pelicans, cattle, etc. There really isn't anything like waking up or going to bed at night and looking your balcony to see a sleeping giraffe 20ft away.

The pool is awesome both at Jambo house and Kidani village (Kidani has a slide) and the pool at Jambo house is very close to The Mara AKL's quick service restaurant which is very reasonably priced. The staff at AKL is very friendly and go out of their way to help you feel at home. The only issue we ever had during our stay was with housekeeping not leaving enough/any towels.

There are many activities here as well from movie nights by the pool to safari rides. If you have young children there will be no shortage of activities for them if you ever need an afternoon at the hotel. This place is absolutely magical I highly recommend it.,

Room Tip: Rooms on the Kudu Trail are quieter and have animals such as ostrich and zebras to constantly see. H...
