“Great experience, but pricey”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

We have stayed here 3 times now. Our experience has been fairly consistent each time.
First, you are paying for the animals, period. What is it worth to open your curtains and have 4 Giraffes staring at your kids? Well, you can decide that. Our room was small, but functional. Crazy expensive. $500 for a king and a bunk bed. But the yips and yells from the porch all day and night long were worth the effort...I suppose.
The property is gorgeous. The pool is great. Jinko restaurant is really nice. The best in all of Disney.
Check in is always confusing and slow, but the staff was wonderful.
I know the Disney bus system is run by an outside party...but it needs work. I know it's a free perk, but it rarely works as advertised.
The Mouse gets it right most of the time.

We have stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge twice, it is simply the most amazing resort. We never paid any extra for Savannah room view but both times we stayed we had an awesome view that included giraffe, zebra, ostrich. The rooms are great, maybe a little small to some people but just fine for us, our last stay was our little boys first time at Disney (he was 22 months) he had an amazing time, he loved walking round the resort at night and seeing the animal, he loved the little playground area and all the Disney staff were so friendly to him. The only thing I would like to see when we go back is a little something extra in the pool for smaller children, they have the slide in the main pool but our little one was too little for that and the only other option was a small splash pool which came up to his knees. We always visit Florida in September and I would strongly advise UK visitors to try and do this as it is sooo much quieter, the only time we qued for a ride was for the new Harry Potter and that was a 15 minute wait time!

We just came back from our 5 night stay at this hotel - to be honest, I think that this will be my first and last trip to Disneyworld - it's just not for us, way too many people, the food is too expensive and completely not to what we like, and it's really hard to call a vacations when you are staying in line for 60 minutes for one minute ride...anyway, the one good thing about this trip was the hotel - I loved the fact that there are lots of exotic animals, and the premises are covered with palm trees, bushes and milions of trees.. We had a standard room but still was able to see the animals from our balcony all the time so I think it really makes no point of upgrading to a savanah view but its all personal choice too...The food is ok for the first two days, then you get tired of all the african spices, the breakfast is the same every day - and it's really expensive..The restaurant we enjoyed the most is the one in Kidani Village - really good food and very friendly staff. Kids had a blast in the pool but somehow I was missing some music - there were few activities by the pool but after 5pm the only thing you hear are the screaming kids :-) It would be nice to hear some happy music by the pool bar but I guess it's a disneyworld and the only noice you are hearing are the kids! :-) The transportation to the parks was all good and it went without any issues or long wait. The one thing I really loved about this place is the convenience about checking our bags in the hotel and not worry about them till the final destination..
Anyway, it was a nice hotel, overpriced a little but overall we all like it...And to make a small suggestion please buy some snacks/water on amazon.com and have them deliver to your room ahead of time - we did that and it was a blessing...and it saved us a lot of $$$ :-)

We spent April 15-19 at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in Orlando, part of the Disney World resort. My wife and I, plus my daughter and her 7 year-old son had a great time. The room was nice - two queen sized beds and a balcony overlooking the savannah (at an extra cost). It was great looking out the window and seeing giraffes, zebras ostriches and other exotic animals. The welcome at the hotel is very professional, we got off the bus with a bunch of other people but it didn't seem like we spent a whole lot of time in line to get our room. because we opted for the Express Luggage" service, our bags were checked in in Hartford and we didn't see them again until we went to our room. They handled everything (for an additional fee). Our flight home ended up being canceled for mechanical reasons, so we ended up schlepping our own bags through the airport on the return trip (and again, no refund for a service not delivered).

We also spent a bit of time with the concierge, who really helped us figure out our schedule and what we could and couldn't get done during our trip. At his suggestion, we cancelled a couple of themed meals (also extra charges), but we never got credited back for the cancelled meals. We took the Disney meal plan which basically gives you breakfast and dinner plus a "snack". We didn't use all our meals and again, didn't get a refund on our leftover meals. Speaking of food, I was not impressed. The cost of meals at Disney World is outrageous. Lunches ran upwards of $100 or more for 4 people (burgers and chicken strips) and dinners were up over $200 in some cases for what I'd describe as "adequate" meals. Certainly not 5 star quality - maybe a solid 3. Boma is the main restaurant with a buffet that was decent, but more like a Golden Corral with weird spices; and quadruple the price. The snack bar downstairs was limited in offerings and the food wasn't much... not that you'd know it from the prices they charged. All in all the food was not worth the money, but Disney has you over a barrel. The best meal we had all week was at the Outback Steakhouse at Orlando airport on the way home.

While I complain about the cost, the ability to stay on the Disney property and access all attractions was terrific, especially with a 7 year-old in tow. Animal Kingdom Lodge is a bit farther away from the other attractions, so you need to plan extra time to sit on buses. I think if I ever go back I'd rather stay closer to the other parks, but being able to see the animals up close was worth some of that. We also got to go on the Sunrise Safari at Animal Kingdom (for an additional cost- as usual) which was fantastic. The dinner at Cinderella's Castle (for an additional cost) was not worth it, Breakfast with Mickey (for an additional cost) was not worth it.

One nice touch while we were there. When my wife booked the trip she mentioned that she and I would be celebrating our anniversary while we were there. Everywhere we went, people knew about it. Their computer system told them each time and we got a "Happy Anniversary" at every meal, and often a free cupcake or other little desert. Disney cast members are really first class! they all give you the feeling that you are important to them. Those little touches help defray a bit the fact that for what I paid for this trip, I could have bought a really nice used car.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for savannah view - try and get 2nd floor - the higher floors have trees blocking the...

My family and I arrived at this hotel after a long drive. My son was screaming when we pulled in, and from that moment, everyone tried to accomodate us. The staff outside gave him some stickers which calmed him down. They brought our bags out of the car and showed us where to go for check in. The check in process was a bit long, specially if you have kids, but the staff saw our frustration and upgraded us to a better room with a beautiful view of the safari. We got to see giraffes, zebras, and other animals right from our balcony.
The room was beautiful, clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The pool at the Jambo House was perfect for our son, and they have staff at the pool that organizes games for the kids.
This hotel was extremely kid friendly. They had a wonderful playground and a big kid's area in the big pool, as well as a smaller separate pool for babies.
The concierge was very helpful, we were able to purchase tickets through him and they just put in on our room keys. We were also given free parking to Animal Kingdom for staying at the hotel.
At night, the staff sets up a big movie screen around the pool area, and they play a different disney movie every night. This was wonderful because we were able to stay outside longer.
I recommend bringing snacks and water bottles into the hotel. We ordered room service one night and for 3 adults and 1 kid, it was over $100. Each water bottle was $7.99!!!
If you are going to eat at one of the restaurants, I strongly suggest making reservations. The restaurants get crowded very quick.
There are not any stores to purchase snacks and water bottles around the resort, you would have to get back on the freeway to find a non disney store.
Overall our stay was great, our son loved every minute of it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view to the safari. If it is your first stay, they will automatically upgrade...

We had a lovely time staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in October for our girly holiday. Was really different to most of the hotels on offer due to it being part game reserve! The lobby had huge windows and over our stay we saw loads of bird, giraffes and other African wildlife. As the name suggests, it is closer to the Animal Kingdom park than the others, but we used the disney transportation to get around and found it to be quick and relaible. The room was perfect and had everything we needed (plus, every Disney channel known) the staff were all lovely and can not be faulted! We would all love to come back!

This was our first visit to the Animal Kingdom Resort. We found the employee service and room to be excellent. Dining options and food quality left much to be desired. Guests are better advised to go to a nearby off grounds restaurant.
