“Breakfast with the wildlife...so cool”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2011

While I would not call this a luxury hotel, the rooms are decorated nicely, clean and comfortable. However, the experience is so extraordinary who cares about luxury. THe first morning we ordered room service and had breakfast (food was ok, but prices are very reasonable considering it was brought to our room) on the balcony. That morning we spotted Giraffes, zebras, impala, nyala and ankole cattle. It was cool.
The overall hotel was great. The customer service, restaurants, transportation, amenities were are "disney standard".

We had a room with a view of the savannah from the fourth floor. This was our first trip to Disney. Basically one should give some time to explore the hotel if staying here as we spent breakfasts on our balcony (in July!) watching the various animals feeding. Most exciting for us were the giraffes and zebras. I will admit that after staying here the Kilimanjaro safari ride, although great, probably lost some luster given that we could see many of the same animals from our hotel room. At this location, there are activities scheduled during the day which would have been nice to participate in if we had enough time. The pool looked very inviting, but we were unable to take advantage of due to some very strong afternoon thunderstorms that closed the pools down for the two days of our stay.

A few specific notes: we were delayed 4 hours on our arrival and got in late. We used Disney Magical Express, but didn't get our bags delivered to our room that first night. The hotel staff was very good about getting us toiletries and diapers free of charge when we asked. We also got a credit, which was nice considering that we changed plans for the next day waiting for our luggage. Given that this is Disney, though, the credit would not go very far in terms of replacing a lost bag. Hopefully that is already obvious.

For restaurants onsite, we were not on a meal plan. We intended to eat at Boma but decided that the quick service Mara was perfectly fine for us and saved probably about $80 by doing so, especially given that we weren't hungry when our reservation was scheduled. BTW, just because you have a reservation via Disney's website doesn't mean that you will be seated immediately - another reason why Mara was appreciated by us for our kids that had to eat NOW.

One nice things about the rooms is that they are pretty quiet. We really couldn't hear the people around us. The hotel must have thick walls.

We also didn't have a car, so we used the buses. We only traveled to the Animal Kingdom park from this hotel. Since that is the closest destination from this accommodation, one thing we didn't consider were the bus time waits. The buses run frequently, but there was at least one time where we had to wait for the next bus due to the number of people waiting to return to the hotel.

One last observation - it was very much appreciated by myself and my wife that the Disney cast members (staff) are very friendly in greeting you and not in a fake way. At the Animal Kingdom, it was pretty apparent that the staff there take this seriously. Given that they are dealing with children, it was a very nice thing to see.

Room Tip: ask for a upper level room for a savannah room if available to get more expansive views

After a very long drive we arrived at the lodge. The staff were extremely welcoming. Upon checkin we realized that they had us in a king bedroom pool vieetoday with no pull out. There was 3 of us so the room wouldn't work. Without question they upgraded us to the Savannah room. The sites were beautiful! We could see giraffes, zebras and all of the other animals from a close distance. The property was beautifully designed. We had a great trip! My only complaints would be that we did have bugs in our room and had to have an exterminator come out to spray (probably due to the animals being so close by). Also the beds were really hard and sneaky. I thought a place this nice would have a little better beds but this shouldn't make the place a deal breaker.

The Animal Kingdom Lodge is a wonderful hotel with spectacular architecture. Just walking into the lobby is breathtaking! We had a Savannah View room with bunk beds, which was well worth it for our two young kids. The food at both Boma and Jiko is great, and not bad at Mara. My boys were hoping for a better waterslide at the pool, but still enjoyed the pool area very much. There's a nice playground near the pool, and you can't beat the animal viewing (especially through nightvision goggle at night!).

We returned to the Animal Kingdom Lodge this year, after enjoying a wonderful stay a couple years ago. Let me just say that, this resort is still magical!

The property itself is huge, with plenty of activity for those who are unwinding after a day in the parks. The lobby is wonderful to walk though and sit in, with daily activities provided for the guests. Zawadi, the obligatory gift shop, provides some non-standard souvenirs for vacation goers and easy pick up for purchases from the park.

Check-in to our Arusha View room was smooth, with a quick luggage delivery to our room. The room itself, a bunk bed set up, was very clean and had a wonderful view of the savannah. We were able to see antelope, giraffe, zebra, and various types of birds during our stay. I do wish that Disney would provide free WiFi in their guest rooms though, since its a standard in many cheaper hotels these days.

Unfortunately, we did not have much of an opportunity to sample any of the more upscale restaurants on the property. However, if you want a decent value, I suggest going to the Mara for a quick bite to eat. Its easily accessible to the pool.

((Hint: If staying for a week, invest in one those 14 dollar travel mugs that are offered. Its well worth it for the stay.)

The pool was very clean and there was plenty to do for both parents and kids. Daily activities like water basketball and a mini water slide were available for the young one's and the pool side bar the hot tub are there for the parents.

If you're a person who enjoys getting a bit of exercise each day, don't worry, the Lodge has you covered! The fitness room alongside the pool is very clean and has a variety of machines to use. Whether you want to work on cardio or weight training, there is something for the exercise buff to do. However, due to the security lock being in disuse, you will need to hand your room key over to the attendant. Not a big deal though.

Finally, as with any other Disney resort, take advantage of the buses! The bus station is just a short walk from the front entrance of Jambo House and the drivers tend to stay on schedule fairly well.

Overall, it was a wonderful stay at one of the best themed resorts on the Disney property. I will definitely look forward to staying here again in the future!
