“Great hotel & location, but a few tiny probs...”
Reviewed February 19, 2010

1. The hotel is beautiful! It has gorgeous decor, fixtures, and materials. Our family rented a suite with a king size bedroom w/ bathroom. The bathroom had gorgeous shower and a separate jetted massage tub. The living room had a washer & dryer combo; a closet with ironing board & iron, and pack & play (for those with kids!); a full kitchen with full sized stainless appliances. The couch folded out into a moderately comfy double bed and then the large oversized lounge chair unfolded into a twin sized bed. The common area had its own full bathroom.

2. The location is unparalleled! Only minutes from the Magic Kingdom and Trans & Ticket Center to switch monorails to Epcot. Drive time by car to Animal Kingdom and the Studios is about 5-10 minutes. However, it's hard to drive out of the Magic Kingdom Resort area---no clear signage of just how to get to the main resort areas. We had an 11th floor view of the Magic Kingdom castle and Space Mountain at night. Gorgeous! We could watch the MK fireworks from our room.

3. Problems: They said our second room would be next to the suite. It was not. It was down a floor and at the other end of the tower. We anticipated adjacent rooms, and then when we got there, the hotel was full and the front desk was unable to move the rest of our party. They encoded many guests' keycards incorrectly and on 2 days, our party was delayed in getting into parks early (for hotel guests). A second problem was that the hotel rooms were just too dimly lit! The bathroom was downright dark and it was hard to apply makeup clearly! Seems like a small thing, but over the course of the week, my family and i kept remarking on how dark the rooms were.

Just returned from a 10 day first trip to Disney. Very pleased that we decided on Bay Lake Tower, 1-bdrm villa. If you are traveling with kids, and want the amenities of home, this is the place. Having the separate bdrm meant we could put the kids down to sleep in the living area (each on separate beds, one queen pullout & one single pullout) and relax with a glass of wine in our own room. The washer/dryer was great to have, we came home with 3 suitcases of clean clothes!! The housekeeping was great to replenish my TIDE supply each day. We had groceries delivered prior to arrival from GARDENGROCER.com, which we would highly recommend. We enjoyed coffee/breakfast in our room each morning and then headed out for the parks. You can WALK to Magic Kingdom, which at the end of the day, after the Fireworks get out, is a super plus. Everyone else was scrambling to get to their bus/monorail/boat, and we strolled out, about a 10 minute walk max. Our room was 8036 on the 10th floor. From our room, we viewed Bay Lake & the Contemporary pool. We also could see the EPCOT fireworks each night. I would recommend requesting an even-numbered room on as high a floor as they will give you. Getting an even number allows you to be on the outside of the crescent shaped building, which is much better for your view. We originally were assigned an odd numbered room, and luckily were able to switch. Although this resort is a bit pricier than some others, I believe the convenience of the location (it is the only resort you can walk to the MK from), being on the monorail line, and the amenities in the rooms are completely worth it. Lastly, we found the Disney buses which stop right out front of the Contemporary to be very efficient. We never waited more then 10 mins for a bus to go anywhere.

We stayed in the Contemporary Hotel in 2006 and thought it was fantastic! As DVC (Disney Vacation Club) members this new property gives us the opportunity to stay a few minutes walk or ride on the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. The view we had from our 1 bed room was of Bay Lake and the pool area and I loved it. Other rooms have Magic Kingdom views (for extra points)
The room was HUGE! A comfortable sitting area with a convertible sofa which made a double bed, and an extra large chair which made a fab single bed. Also there was a fully fitted kitchen area, cooker, dishwasher, fridge and lots of cupboard space with a generous dining area.
A laundry room with a washer and dryer made our stay even more easier. We had two bathrooms, one smaller one near the entrance, but still providing WC, basin, bath with shower over it. The second bathroom was en-suite to the master bedroom and had a large, deep, corner whirlpool bath, WC, double basins and seperate shower cubicle.
The Master Bedroom had a king size bed large flat screen TV (same size as the one in the living area) and a balcony.
Perfect!

We stayed at the Bay Lake Tower 12/29 - 1/4. It was a choice between Old Key West and Contemporary. Contemporary was more expensive but we wanted something along the monorail since it was going to be our first time at a WDW resort. The monorail actually makes a big difference. It runs a lot more frequently than the buses. I can't say we got a good deal on the 1-br villa, but we booked last minute and chose the location over price.

The room we got was wonderful. On the 7th floor with a lake view. At night we could see fireworks as well as the electrical show on the lake that happens nightly. The bedroom had a huge full bathroom with separate shower. There's another smaller full bathroom outside. The kitchen is fully stocked with utensils, pots and pans, dishes, glasses. There's a small island with 2 high bar stools. And the eating area is cushioned wrap around bench. (Hope I'm describing it well.) The living room has a twin sleeper sofa and a full sleeper sofa. In the morning, my 2-year old would just run around and play in the living room. It seemed a bit large for my family of 4, but we appreciated the extra space.

The service was fine. Check in was at the Contemporary and it was relatively quick. There's a tv in the lobby playing Disney videos for the kids to watch. The Wave restaurant is in the lobby level and it was pretty good. The Contempo Cafe is slow when there are a lot of people there. But the food was okay for a quick breakfast or lunch.

The beach area is clean and not very large. There are 2 sections. One on the Contemporary side and one by the Bay Lake Towers. We didn't use the pools but we did see a lot of lifeguards patrolling.

In all, we really enjoyed our WDW experience and the hotel was a wonderful place to return to after a day at the parks.

We are DVC members and decided to stay here for 6 nights from Nov. 9th to 15th. We were on the 12th floor overlooking the pool and Bay Lake and stayed in a one bedroom unit, since there were only the two of us. We could walk to the Magic Kingdom, and the monorail was just a short walk away in the Contemporary. Every night we watched the Electric Water Pageant from our balcony. We also went up to the Roof Top Lounge several nights to watch the fireworks over the Magic Kingdom and had drinks there. This lounge is only for DVC members staying at Bay Lake Towers. What a great perk! One afternoon we relaxed by the pool and had a snack at the bar. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again.l

We were there in early Dec for 2 weeks and we were on the southside on the 10 floor with a lake view . I would rather have this sort of view than an Magic Kingdom view as all you see is the car park and castle . At least with the lake view its relaxing to look out of and you can always see the fireworks from the 16th Floor .
I recommend the southside view rather than the northside as with the southside you get to see epcot in th distance and the boats
I cannot stress enough that if you book this place ...ASK for a high floor
