“Fantastic Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2014

To be honest, I didn't expect to enjoy the modern setting of Bay Lake Tower (BLT), but I was pleasantly surprised. The furniture and room, though modern, were comfortable. Rather than the vinyl couch I expected from the pictures, the material was more like leather. The couches, chairs, and beds were all very comfortable. The location can't be beat, and the close proximity of the Contemporary doubled our options. The cast members of both hotels were more than accommodating and there was always something for the kids to do (pool, small beach, arcade, board games, movies, and much more). Our children enjoyed the hotel as much as they enjoyed the theme parks! If you go, try to get a room with a view of the fireworks. Nothing beats watching the amazing show each night from your own balcony.

Room Tip: Try to get a view of the Magic Kingdom on a high floor so you can watch fireworks nightly; but the b...

My wife and I joined her daughter and her family (husband and 3 sons ages 2, 5, and 12) at this resort. It was a 2-bedroom efficiency with full kitchen, dining area, living room and 3 full baths. Plenty of room to sleep everyone comfortably. The only glitch with this "efficiency" is that you had to pre-order your groceries on-line and then pay a $25 delivery charge. There was no grocery store within miles and, since Mickey picks you up at the airport, you are at his mercy to travel within the prison yard...I mean complex. If you wanted to go to, say, Sea World, (one not on the approved Walt list) you had to either rent a car or pay a limo service $20 per person (not including tip)! The attractions were typically Fanstasmic in the parks we visited: Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Blizzard Beach and Epcot, but, watch out adults....they don't serve alcohol in the Magic Kingdom...although they let smokers do their thing in selected areas....go figure. The kids loved the place, but I'd rather lie on a beach somewhere and drink adult beverages, and the only rodent I'd want to see would be on some idiot's t-shirt!!!

Room Tip: If you like fireworks, get a room on the Magic Kingdom side of the resort and not on the Bay side...

The husband and I stayed with our three children, ages 8 years, 5 years and 6 months at Bay Lake Tower ("BLT") for 8 days. The location of the hotel was great, being close to the Magic Kingdom. The proximity allowed us to retreat to our room when it was too hot or when the kids were tired. As BLT is also linked to Epcot, Polynesian Resort and Grand Floridian by monorail, it made other food options accessible.

We had a one-bedroom villa, which was perfect for us. There were two bathrooms, a kitchenette, washing machine and dryer in the room. The older children slept on a queen-size sofa bed and there was an armchair in the living room that could be converted to a single bed.

The washing machine and dryer were God-sent, especially after long, sweaty days in the theme parks. The kitchenette helped too, when the kids were jet lagged and demanded to be fed at 4am and when we were sick of eating Disney fare.

However, the room was not very clean. The carpet is somewhat worn out and was not vacuumed throughout our stay (bits that had dropped onto the carpet stayed there till the end of our stay). Those with sensitive airways should take note! The Teflon on the pots and pans is scratched; these should be replaced.

On the logistical front, here are answers to the questions I had before my stay:

Bathroom -
1. No toothbrushes and toothpaste are provided;
2. H2O+ shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and hand soap are provided;

Laundry -
3. Washing powder is provided (they will refill this);

Kitchenette -
4. Detergent and sponge are provided (they will refill this);
5. Kitchen towels are provided;
6. Detergent for the dishwashing machine is provided (they will refill this); and
7. Cutlery and crockery provided.

Do note that the terms for refilling may differ for DVC members.ie. it may be chargeable.

I ordered groceries online but there are supplies, albeit limited, available at Fantasia Market on level 4 of the Contemporary Resort - no raw meats or fresh vegetables but they carry raw eggs, pasta, pasta sauce, canned tuna, ice-cream, wine, bacon, breakfast sausages, butter, frozen vegetables and frozen pizzas/meals. There is also a decent range of medication and baby supplies available at the shop.

We ordered room service once during our stay. The choices are limited. The pizza and bread were good, the steak is ok but unfortunately, I can't say the same for the crab cakes.

Despite the dodgy standard of housekeeping, I would still recommend BLT for practical purposes. However, if you're not travelling with kids, the Grand Floridian may be a better choice.

As Disney Vacation Club members, we have stayed pretty much everywhere at WDW. We've enjoyed all of the results--all special in their own way--but this one tops the list for us.

We had a two bedroom villa, and it was simply great. Unexpectedly spacious, with two large bedrooms and three full baths, as well as full kitchen, living room and laundry. Very clean. The decor is very pleasant and modern, plenty of plush towels and toiletries, and the kitchen had all you would need to prepare a meal. I especially loved the waterfall shower head in the walk in master shower. The best was that our room looked out over the Magic Kingdom, and it was awesome to sit out on the balcony at night, sip a glass of wine and watch the fireworks. So beautiful!

The recreation options at the BLT are plenty--several swimming pools, outdoor restaurants/bars, shuffleboard, running trail, numerous water sports, tennis, etc. Spa services are available at the Contemporary Fitness Center.

Then there's the walking bridge over to the Contemporary Resort which allows easy access to several dining and shopping options. The Outer Rim bar was great for cocktails, and the Contempo Cafe was good for quick meals on the go (available for take out). Our favorite, The California Grill (with 14 huge coolers of wine!), is on the top floor of the contemporary.
When it's time to go to the parks, the monorail will take you to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot-an easy walk over the walking bridge. Buses provide transportation to Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios.

Staff members were always available to help with any questions we had and they provide you access to the special elevator to take you to the lounge on the top floor. This is a DVC member only lounge, which is nice. You can order any type of drink and plenty of appetizers are available to enjoy. At fireworks time, they pipe in the music from the Magic Kingdom so you can get the "full effect".

We were celebrating my son's college graduation and our 30th wedding anniversary. Disney cast members bent over backwards to make this a special trip for us--providing a complimentary dessert at the California Grill, congratulating us at every turn, and we were able to order a special celebratory cake for our graduate, which was amazingly delicious.

The BLT is outstanding across the board. You must try it out.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the Magic Kingdom. The fireworks are incredible.

This was our first stay at Bay Lake tower, after many trips to Disney- and many other stays at Deluxe Resorts.
Our family of 3 selected Bay Lake based upon the location to the Magic Kingdom, proximity to the Contemporary, and stellar reviews from other friends. I knew going into our stay that the studios were the smallest of any Disney Villa Resort.
The room itself is well equipped- a queen bed, comfy sofa sleeper, small table and chairs, galley style kitchenette, and a bathroom. Overall, it was everything we needed- but it was a TIGHT fit for a family of three. I really do not think we could have managed if we had another child. It took some creative configuring for us to manage three suit cases and the stroller, in addition to ourselves, in the room. Each day we needed to fold up the sofa sleeper- move the ottoman- place the chairs from the table onto the balcony- just to get situated. (Drawer space and closet space were tight, as well)
That being said, I was willing to do this simply based upon how much we loved the location, amenities, and proximity to the Magic Kingdom.
The pools were excellent, and offered a great view of Bay Lake. The Marina/Boat Rental was a great excursion for us one morning- and the lake view from our room gave us a front row seat for the water parade! The sky bridge to the Contemporary allowed us a great view of the Castle/Monorail- as well as Illuminations Fireworks in the distance!

My only suggestion- I do wish the prices were more fair- particularly on the studios- as they are very small. Other Disney Villa Studios are much larger, for much cheaper.

Room Tip: Request a lake view, with a view of the Marina for the best chance of viewing the water parade from...

This was our first time staying at Bay Lake Tower. It was an amazing hotel & the room was huge. The room was very clean and the cast members were very nice and helpful. We stayed here right before our wedding, so that we would have room to get ready. We had plenty of room and had no issues getting ready. We also had a great view of the pool and Bay Lake behind that. We could go to the elevator entry ways and watch Wishes, which was nice.
