“Beautiful grounds. Not many families. Expensive. Cold pool.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2004

My husband, myself and my daughter saved for 3 years to spoil ourselves with a really nice Orlando vacation. We picked this hotel because of the great reviews here and because it had the most awesome pool. We arrived Dec 2 and stayed until the 9th.
Our arrival had us with our mouths agape. We walked into the atrium lobby in the evening and it was so unbelievably gorgeous! An 18 story atrium lobby with palm trees, poinsettias, and a huge Christmas tree all lit up. It was magical. Check in was speedy. We had a great bellman who took us to our room and showed my 9 year old daughter the sights you can see from the hall windows including MK. She was mostly excited about the pool which looked totally awesome at night.
In the morning, the first thing we noticed was that we seemed to be the only family there on vacation. This hotel is a convention center so there were convention people (mostly men) everywhere and dressed in business casual or suits. We had self parked and the shortest way to the parking lot was through the convention hall. We felt kind of funny dressed in our "ready for a day at Disney" attire which included sneakers, hats and fanny packs. We realized that this place was not as family friendly as we had hoped. We wanted a place that wasn't overloaded with kids and babies, but this place was nearly all adult.
Being a Mom, I was surprised to find out that guest laundry meant, give us your first born and we'll wash your undies. Folding is extra! There was no self service laundry which was something I had counted on since we were staying a whole week. Everything in the hotel is expensive. We ate out on the strip every day and night especially since our child is a picky eater and we didn't want to spend a lot on her meal and have her not eat it.
The greatest thing about this hotel is that the grounds are simply amazing. From the lobby to the pool, everywhere you look you see the most beautful landscaping and statues. The pool is an attraction all of its own. It has waterfalls and grottos and bubbly hot tubs. Unfortunately the main pool was simply too cold to swim in even when it was 85 degrees out. The pool temp was only 68 and nobody dared go in. There was a smaller heated pool that my daughter got to swim in, but she was really looking forward to the big pool. That was a big disappointment. So I wouldn't recommend the pool after Sept or Oct.
Most of the staff was very friendly and helpful especially the bellmen, the wait staff and groundspeople. The desk staff were not as warm and fuzzy. The room was very pretty. You have to like green though! Lighting in the bathroom was a bit dim, but it was very clean and well appointed with a close-up mirror, a scale, full size toiletries, hairdryer and fluffy towels. Very nice.
The hotel is right near the entrance to DW. MK and DDD are just a few minutes away. The hotel shuttle didn't run at times we needed so we took our car everywhere we went and paid for parking, so I wouldn't count on the shuttles too much.
All in all this place is luxurious and truly beautiful. However, if you are a family planning a vacation, I would recommend a luxury Disney Hotel which has similar amenities but a more family friendly atmosphere. We felt that this place is more for adults and conventioners. Great for a wedding or a honeymoon though.

We just adored the Hyatt Grand Cypress when we stayed there for our Honeymoon (November 2004). The resort is beautifully and elegantly decorated, from it's sprawling atrium complete with its blooming orchids, parrots, and waterfalls, to it's huge "grotto" style swimming pool and jaccuzzis. Our room was very clean and attractive. Almost all of the staff we encountered were friendly and cheerful. Our only minor complaint was that the express check in was not express AT ALL, it actually took the better part of 15 minutes, and the staff member who happened to be checking us in was rather unfriendly (i.e. did not so much as say "Hi" or even smile when we approached the desk). We definitely plan on staying there again; All in all, a lovely vacation.

We just returned from 4 very pleasant nights at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress over Thanksgiving. High points included the professional and polite staff and the variety of activities offered at the resort. It's one of the few hotels I've ever stayed at where the concern and friendliness of the staff actually seemed genuine. The on-site activities we enjoyed included the great pool, kayaking and canoing on the large manmade lake, and bike riding out to the nature area. The low points were the very expensive food (even a light snack resulted in a major bill) and the frustrating shuttle bus to DisneyWorld. The problem with the shuttle bus is that it takes forever to get to your park unless you happen to be going to the first park on the schedule. It's much easier to just drive to the parks. By the way, the rooms are just fine - our two room suite was very comfortable and well maintained. We would definitely stay at the Hyatt again.

Im an Orlando resident and had a gift certificate to stay at this hotel over Halloween weekend. Im in the travel industry and have to say this is one of the finest hotels in Orlando.
For starters parking is free of charge. Atrium is grand and gorgeous. Live parrots in the lobby are a wonderful addition to the tropical feel of the hotel. Check in was a breeze. We asked for a room facing the pool.....which faced Disney property. We ended up getting a corner room 448, we wanted higher, but since we got a much coveted corner room we did not complain. Room was well laid out and had 2 balconies instead of the normal 1. I must admit room decor does need a little bit of updating, but it was no big deal. For those who like the toiletries in the bathrooms, you will love these, they are almost full sized shampoo, conditioner and bath gel. They definately did not skimp......like those annoying tiny bottles found elsewhere.

Pools were fantastic. A bit chilly, but who cares when its 90 degrees out and 90% humidity. Reminded me of the ocean temp in Southern California, you eventually get used to it. The pool grottos were also awesome with waterfalls and hidden whirlpools throughout the pool area.

I went to the gym everyday and the facilities were top notch, with a wondeful sauna (seperate men and womens) and steam room to wind down in. Also had a great arcade and plenty of free resort activities to take part in. You pay a $13 resort fee, this includes everything: bike rentals (regular bikes and cool 4 person bikes), paddle boats for the lake, canoes, a sand beach on the lake, hammocks, 3 putt golf, regular award winning golf course(for a fee), horse back riding at their equestrian center, miles of trails and paths for jogging and walking, tennis. Im sure there was much more included in the resort fee but there just wasnt enough time to do it all.

Lunch at the hotel restaurant is pricey. We checked the menu and no way were we going to pay $10 for a hotel hamburger. One word of advice is to go to Orlando Ale House right down the street from the hotel........a pleasant walk or very short drive. The Ale House has awesome food, great local reputation, good bar and plenty of sports on TV's. Dinner at Hemingways is supposed to be very good. We didnt get to go there. Sunday Brunch at La Coquina in the looby has the reputation of being the best in Orlando------very pricey. Runs around $60.

Overall we would recommend this hotel to anybody and everybody. Couples looking for a romantic getaway(nothing more romantic than drinking wine and watching the fireworks over Disney from your balcony), to families on vacation ( the waterslide alone is enough to keep the kids busy for hours........ It kept me busy for hours. Just remember you will get used to the chilly pool water.......

We spent 2 wks at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress and it quite frankly "made" our holiday. All the staff were really helpful and friendly (I took quite a bad cold while I was their and our maid left a couple of extra boxes of tissues especially for me)! We were fortunate enough to get a pool view room with views of the fireworks over Disney. I was amazed at how close we actually were.

To get good value for money from the resort fee it's best to spend a few days at the hotel and also use the shuttles to and from the parks. The timings of the buses were really good and the drivers were really informative and friendly. The Health Club (gym, sauna, steamroom) was really well run and kept lovely. The big pool was NOT too cold - wimps!!! I actually found it really refreshing. The hot-tubs/pools were a nice touch. We also cycled over to the Hyatt Villas (approx 2 miles away), and they were very nicely kept. However, we were still glad we stayed at the hotel where we were able to take advantage of all the facilities.

Only thing I would say is that its a bit pricy to eat there. We paid $61 for 2 people for a buffet breakfast. So we stuck to the palm cafe breakfasts which were absolutely fine. There are places to eat nearby too, and the hotel operates a shuttle bus from the hotel entrance to the reception gate to save your legs!

Overall we had a wonderful time, and will definately be back.

Great experience recently at the Hyatt Grand Cypress. Everything was excellent from the friendliness of the staff to the outstanding half-acre pool. There is so much to do on-site. I would highly recommend this resort to those who appreciate a full-service resort. It's great.

We stayed at the Hyatt Grand Cypress Oct. 5-7 2004. We stayed here the night before and after our visit to Discovery Cove and before heading on to St. Pete for 3 nights. Had a great experience, wish we could have stayed here longer. Everything was very nice. I am very picky about hotel rooms, and I was very happy with this one. The rooms seemed newly renovated. We were upgraded to a pool view room. We did see the fireworks at Disney and Seaworld at 9 pm. It would be very nice if the balconies were big enough for a chair, though.

The lobby is pretty. The pools are wonderful, although the big pool is too cold to swim in. The hot tubs and cave areas were all really neat. This is probably the 2nd best pool area I've had the pleasure of visiting. (The number 1 being the Hilton Cancun.) The grounds are very nice and well maintained. The resort fee is a nuisance, but we did get to use a some of the "extras" that other places don't have (for free anyway), such as bikes. They have horses on the grounds.

When we were there, the place seemed practically empty, partly due to it's enormous size and partly because of the earlier bad weather. We did get the breakfast buffet included in our "package". It was at the Palms Cafe. It wasn't much of a buffet. Not that the food was bad, but I'm not used to eating breakfast with plastic utensils. It was very, very basic. Not what you would think of as a buffet at all. I think there was actually another buffet in the hotel, which was probably more of what we were expecting. And with the price of rooms there, I would have expected more of a buffet.

The self parking was easy. We were considering valet, but when we found the self parking, we were actually happy we didn't get valet.

So, the only negative was the Palms "buffet". If you get this buffet included in your room, don't expect much (and don't pay extra for it).

Other than that, this hotel is great. Great rooms, great pool, and great property. When I go back to Orlando I will stay here if possible.
