Date of Stay: Friday, 4/4/14 - Sunday, 4/6/14
Length of Stay: 2 Nights
In a nutshell, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is an absolutely beautiful resort property located in the heart of Orlando's Walt Disney World area; it offers absolutely amazing customer service, beautiful grounds, a pool complex rivaling Hawaiian Resort properties, and truly wonderful and renovated rooms -- the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress exhibits nothing but the best, and it is truly the place to stay when visiting Walt Disney World or the Central Florida area!
Now, for my detailed review:
First, I must disclose that I have stayed at this property many, many times; with each stay, I become more and more amazed. Having not stayed here in quite some time, and this being my first stay since the completion of a MAJOR renovation project, I felt that it was time to post a new review on this AMAZING property. And, this review builds upon my two prior review of this property -- for further information and some more details on this property, please see my prior reviews:
-February 2012, entitled: “Yet Another AMAZING Weekend in Orlando!!!!” (posted February 3, 2012)
-July 2010, entitled: “A truly AMAZING 4th of July Weekend!” (posted July 6, 2010)
Upon arrival, one will be in awe at the beauty of this property; you approach a Guard Shack and will be greeted by a very friendly Security Guard. One thing that this property does well is make you feel truly secure during your stay; only registered guests or their invitees can gain access to this massive property. And, unlike many of the Security Guards at nearby Disney Resorts, the Security Guards at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress -- such as a wonderful woman named Delores -- are always extremely welcoming, kind and polite. After quickly providing our names, Delores welcomed us back to the property and we began the drive onto the lush grounds of this truly beautiful property.
This property offers two options for parking, Self Parking at $17/day or Valet Parking at $25/day. Self Parking is located just behind the property and is a very quick walk through either the Pool Area or the Conference Center to the Main Lobby. Self Parking is located in a very large lot, so you should not have any trouble finding a space and making the quick walk to the Main Lobby. My recommendation, however, would be to utilize the Valet Parking option; at $25/day, this option is extremely well priced for such a popular resort area, and you will find the Valet Attendants to be very friendly and efficient.
For this stay, my wife and I opted for the Valet Parking option, and -- as usual -- we were very impressed with the prompt and friendly service. The Valet Attendant took our car and we soon found ourselves in the impressive Main Lobby Atrium of this beautiful resort. The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress has one of the most beautiful lobby atriums that I have ever seen, with a beautiful water feature and "Merlot," the beautiful tropical bird who has a perch near the Front Desk. As soon as you enter, you make your way into the atrium and to the right and you will find a very nicely decorated Front Desk; and, a great feature of the Front Desk at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is that if offers a specifically designated line for Platinum and Diamond Level Hyatt Gold Passport Guests.
We entered the Platinum/Diamond Hyatt Gold Passport Line and were very quickly greeted by name as we approached the desk. One great feature about this property is the personal recognition; I have found that the Valet Attendants tend to radio-ahead to the Front Desk so that you can be greeted by name. Such personal attention and guest recognition makes the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress one of the most customer-attentive resort properties that we have ever stayed in. Within moments, the Front Desk Agent was introducing us to the Manager-on-Duty, and she welcomed us back as loyal Diamond Elite Tier Hyatt Gold Passport Members. She informed us that we had an excellent corner pool-view Suite, and explained the Resort Fee and its inclusions to us.
One quick note, as this is a Resort Property, it does carry a Resort Fee. This Resort Fee is $25/day, which is a most reasonable fee considering all that it includes. That daily Resort Fee includes the following: High-Speed Internet; complimentary scheduled bus transportation to Disney, Universal & Sea World; daily newspaper delivery; fitness club access; numerous water-sport equipment, such as canoes and paddle boats; bicycles; and finally, one of the most amazing pool complexes in the Continental United States. Additionally, the property does discount the Resort Fee to $20 for Diamond Tier Hyatt Gold Passport Members, which is a welcome discount.
After all of that was explained, we were each given a glass of complimentary champagne that was quite delicious, and we were off to our Suite on the 12th Floor. As this is a massive property, one may wonder about the elevator number and speed; one will be happy to learn that this property has an ample number of elevators that allow you to quickly access the upper floors and your rooms. Additionally, the elevators are quite a sight in themselves; they are glass elevators, offering sweeping views of either the Main Lobby Atrium or the property grounds.
After a very short elevator ride, we arrived at the 12th Floor -- which also happens to be the Regency Club Floor. We had booked a Junior Suite with Terrace, and we were extremely impressed. Having stayed at this property on numerous occasions, we had never booked a Junior Suite with Terrace before; we wanted to splurge this time, and it was well worth it. Our Junior Suite was one of the most amazing Suites that we have ever experienced, and it offered some of the best fireworks views imaginable! Our room was located at the end of the hallway on a corner of the building, offering sweeping views of the pool complex, the property and the Disney World Fireworks.
Upon entry into the Parlor of the Suite, to your left you will find a large wet bar, equipped with a small refrigerator and also a wine chiller. Additionally, there is a large Keurig Coffee Machine with ample K-cup supply and condiments. There is also a decent sized computer/work desk in this Wet Bar/Entry area. As you continue into the Parlor, you will find a 42-inch high-definition television, complete with a Bose Speaker Sound System, located on the left wall. To the right wall you will find a very comfortable couch that converts into a sofa sleeper, along with an extremely comfortable chair and ottoman. Directly in front of you, you will find large floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony, offering excellent views of the pool complex and the property grounds. But, by far the best feature of this room is the large private terrace that is located off of the right-hand side of the parlor. This property has numerous Junior Suites with terraces, but we lucked out and had one of the largest terraces on property; it was as long as four standard rooms, complete with a small dining table and comfortable patio furniture. It offered truly amazing views of all local fireworks displays as well as sweeping views of the property. Then, back in the Parlor, you will find two access points for the bedroom on either side of the television; the bedroom may be access by these two pocket-doors, which allows for one to shut off the bedroom from the parlor for privacy. As you enter the bedroom, you will find an extremely comfortable King Size Hyatt Grand Bed, along with another comfortable chair. Additionally, there is another 42-inch high-definition television, and ample charging outlets for your electrical devices. There is also another set of floor-to-ceiling windows, along with yet another large balcony overlooking the pool complex. Then, as you continue into the bedroom and to the left, you will find a Deluxe Bathroom, equipped with a tub/shower combination, an over-sized vanity, and a toilet. And, to top things off, the Junior Suite Deluxe Bathroom is fully stocked with the Deluxe Kenet MD products, including shower gel, pillow mist and lip balm. All-in-all, the Junior Suite is well worth the money and it truly is one of the finest Suites that we have experienced. I have attached numerous photos of our Suite to this review.
Now, what does this property offer for Dining you may wonder? Well, one will never go hungry at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress. First, you will find an excellent Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner served in "Cascades." Additionally, for a quick bite, one can head to the "Palm Cafe." And, what if you get hungry while at the pool -- well, this property has you covered, with an excellent poolside menu offered up by "On the Rocks" Poolside Lounge. But, if that wasn't enough, each evening, this property serves up some of the finest sushi in the Orlando area. Additionally, "Perks" will serve up a quick breakfast snack along with Starbucks Coffee to get you up and going each morning. Furthermore, do not forget to sample the In-Room Dining Option; with the beautiful fireworks views that this property has to offer, I would highly recommend ordering in one night to enjoy an amazing dinner with a view for this property has some truly wonderful In-Room Dining Options!
And, in addition to all of those wonderful dining options, this property boasts some wonderful and relaxing bar areas. "Trellises" is located in the main lobby atrium, offering high quality libations. Additionally, located within "Hemingway's" restaurant is the beautiful "Hurricanes Lounge" which offers wonderful drink options with an excellent view of the property.
Finally, and in a category all of its own, I must rave about "Hemingway's." This is a must-dine location at this property; if you fail to eat dinner here at least once, you are truly missing out. "Hemingway's" offers truly amazing seafood and steak options. Having dined here on many occasions, I can assure you, the food selection here is top-notch. I would highly recommend either the Shrimp Scampi or the Diver Scallops. Such exquisite dining options, combined with truly amazing service staff -- such as the extremely friendly and efficient David -- make "Hemingway's" a place that you absolutely cannot miss dining at! Should you want more information on "Hemingway's," I have published a review of this restaurant on TripAdvisor from a prior visit.
As for recreation, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress offers more than one could ever desire.
First, this property offers a recently renovated pool complex that rivals any of the Hawaiian Resort Pool Complexes. It features a massive lagoon pool with numerous waterfalls, along with a separate heated pool also equipped with waterfalls. There are two large hot tubs, along with a very fun water slide. And, unlike many resort pool complexes, post-renovation, the pool complex at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress offers an over-abundance of seating, both shaded and non-shaded. Unlike many properties, if you want to find shade, you should be able to; there are numerous plush seats located within the lagoon caves, as well as ample large umbrellas all over the seating area.
In addition to the massive pool complex, this property offers a beach along the beautiful "Lake Windsong." On this lake, you can opt to use any number of water sports items, such as paddle boats or canoes. Additionally, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress offers amazing walking/jogging trails around the lake, and bicycles are also available for a relaxing bike ride around property. Furthermore, I would be remiss if I did not mention the large tennis and racquet court area, along with the truly beautiful Jack Nicklaus designed golf courses. All-in-all, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress offers more recreation options than one could ever dream of!
But, should you want to escape from this beautiful property and explore the Orlando Area theme parks, you can easily do so. This property offers regular scheduled shuttle bus service to all of the Orlando area theme parks, including: Walt Disney World, Sea World & Universal. If you stay here, there is no need for a car as you can very easily access all that Orlando has to offer with the convenient shuttle bus service.
In sum, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress offers truly top-notch customer service, excellent accommodations and an amazing pool complex; this property is my go-to property for the Walt Disney World area or for a relaxing pool weekend, and I would highly suggest that it become yours' as well. This truly is the perfect place to stay for either a theme park vacation, a relaxing pool vacation, a golf outing or just a quick get away; the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is a Resort that should not be missed!!
