Disney's Old Key West Resort

I booked this through a Disney Vacation Member on ebay. My family of seven stayed in a 2 bedroom Unit from July 15-20. OKW is just like its name "Welcome Home"! The resort is a little village itself. We arrived at 10 am on July 15th, checked in within 5 mins and the front desk lady told us the Villa was ready. We were in building 33 which was a 10 min walk to the main building (pool with slide) or a 2 min drive. The 2 bedroom villa is very spacious and clean like a rental place should be. The master bedroom had a king size bed, a jacuzzi with sink and also a bathroom with a standing shower and sink. The other bedroom had two full size beds, a bathroom with a tub and sink and a vanity area with a sink. The kitchen was well equipped but we never got to use it (only a few times for breakfast) because we were on the Disney Dinning Plan. The washer/dryer was well used by us everyday (we had four kids with us)! The only complaint I have is that OKW does not have a good sit down counter service restaurant like Saratoga.

Overall, Disney's Old Key West is a great place for big families. It is worth a stay if you can get a good deal from a Disney Vacation Member. I would stay here again but only in a 2 bedroom villa if coming with family or friends of 7 or more AND doing the Disney Dinning Plan (IT IS WORTH IT!!). Also, make use of the Extra Magic hours if staying in Disney!

We are avid Disney travelers and just finished our 10th trip in a little over four years. We have stayed at Animal Kingdom before and loved it, but we usually stay at French Quarter. Just this year, we joined the Disney Vacation Club and were anxious to use some of our points. Old Key West seemed like a waste of our points. The room was VERY outdated and dirty. There were traces of the last guest, and there were always different kinds of bugs in the room (mosquitos, spiders, gnats, etc.). There were even times that we were bitten while in the room. Our room was spacious, but not up to the Disney standards that we are use to. The patio was nice, but there were cigarettes everywhere around the patio - not pleasant to look at. The pool area was nice. We are staying at Boardwalk in October and hope for better.

Stayed at Old Key West in June in one bedroom superb from the minute we checked in Staff helpful room clean and spacious well equipped Able to find sun loungers with no problem both main pool and quiet pool wonderful Did not use buses as we had a car Used the food court at Port Orleans as the choice was limited at food to go would recommend it to anyone wanting a peaceful holiday in between the parks as you could imagine you were in Old key West

We s tayed at the resort with another family mid April this year. The condo was immaculate, spacious and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful. You will truly feel transported to a tropical place of easy living (just like Key West is!). The kids loved the pool. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We had absolutely no complaints. I would offer a suggestion to the property owners, however. A bridge from the rear properties to the pool/restaurant/ office area over the stream would make access to those areas more convenient to the guests staying in units further away. Definitely condsider this property if you're going to Disney. You won't regret it .

We stayed here from 6-3 to 6-8. The rooms were very clean and smelled great too. It had central air, not a wall unit that you find in most other places you stay. You know the ones with the stinky musty filters that stink up the entire room and the odor hits you the minute you open the door. It was spacious and had a small refridgerator and microwave. Even had a dvd player in the room to watch movies on those rainy days. There was plenty of activites offered on site. There was a bike&boat rental. There was a bar, an ice-cream shop, a convience store with everything from food to souvenirs. There was a wonderful community room where the children could go shoot pool, play fooseball, throw darts, watch tv, play on the 2 computers, color disney pages with crayons or markers. All provided free with room id key. This was great on rainy days. Our last day there my husband went to the lobby to see about checking out the next morning. He discovered a nice relaxing couch, tv and newspaper. He said he wished he would have taken advantage of that every morning for some quiet alone time before going with the family to the parks. The pool was awesome. It was a big castle waterslide with the exit coming out of a mickey head. There were 3 lifeguards on duty until 8:00pm but you could stay as late as you wanted, at your own risk of course. There was a sauna in a lighthouse and a huge hot tub. My children are 16 and 6 and they loved the pool. The 16 year old loved hanging out at the pool and hot tub late hours. There was so much to do here it was hard to get the children to leave to go to the parks. We stayed in the building across the street from the lobby and main pool so it was convient walking. We drove to the parks each day so I can't tell you much about the resort buses. We got free parking since we were staying at a disney resort(saved $10.00 a day on parking)so it was okay to drive our own vehicle. We didn't want to bother with waiting on the buses to stop and pick up other guests and we packed alot to take with us each day and did not want to drag all our stuff on a bus.We also got the extra park hours staying here. The park would open to guests at 8:00 instead of 9:00. This was very convient as we would get a lot done before the public arrived at 9:00. They also had late night hours but we did not use these as we were tired and could not last past 10:00 anyway. You do need to know that you will only get fresh towels and trash emptied on the 4th day and no cleaning until you check out for the next guests. This was not a problem for us as we spent little time in the room anyway. I would highly recommend this resort if you are visiting the Orlando area. Weather just for relaxing on-site or the hustle and bustle of the theme parks this is the palce to stay!!!!

We are members of another points timeshare and exchanged into Disney's Old Key West (OKW) for 5 nights - June 4-9 2007.

This is a great property as the rooms are the largest in the WDW resort system. Our 1 bedroom was 950 square feet. All that space for our family of 2 adults and 2 children (3.5, and 1)! There is also a huge balcony with a full patio table.

As we were timeshare members we were entitled to one "trash and tidy" during our stay. The cleaning staff replace the towels and take the garbage out - that is it. Guests who stay at a nightly rate will get regular hotel type maid service.

Our check in was fast and efficient. We showed up at 8am and the front desk gave us a number to call to check when our room was ready. We were placed in building 62 which was the closest to the main hospitality centre. We had a quick walk to the main pool, Olivia's, and Goods to Go. The only negative about this building is that you do hear a lot of bus traffic roaring by at all times of the day. I wouldn't recommend this building if you are a light sleeper.

Our room was clean and well stocked with all the kitchen supplies one would require for making meals. We were on the Disney Dining Plan and therefore only ate breakfasts in our unit.

The main pool area was great. Our smallest child loved the huge sand area, while my older child loved swimming in the main pool. The water slide through the sandcastle was a big hit for the older kids and adults.

There is a great little takeout restaurant and bar located next to the pool.

The bus system servicing all of the parks is efficient. We only used it a few times as driving to the parks is generally just as fast and you don't have to wait around for a bus to show up. The only park that has an advantage in taking the bus to in my opinion is the Magic Kingdom. Disney's bus transportation to the MK bypasses the Ticket and Transportation Area. That means you do not have to take the monorail or boat across to the main gate.

This is a great resort and I would highly recommend it.
