“Ticket Upgrade scam”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2009

In 2006 my family of 3 and I went to Walt Disney World and stayed at Old Key West resort. We had such a good time, we knew that we would return to Walt Disney world in the future. We decided to upgraded our passes adding additional park admissions before we left at 2006 prices, so we spent $420.00 adding admissions to 3 passes. This was all done at the check-in desk at the resort. Now that I am planning a trip for 2010, I am told that I am not eligable for the meal plan unless I spend an additional $84.14 person for theme park addmissions that I don't need. The hotel staff does not tell you this when they sell you the upgrades. Disney reservations was no help. Adding an addional night at an Allstar resort would cost $300.00 because if you get the meal plan, you have to get it for every day that you are there. If you are visiting Disney World and liked the meal plan, don't upgrade your passes for future vacations. who knows what else thay didn't tell me?

We just returned from a weekend December trip to Disney World. AsFloridians, we visit several times per year, and stay at various sites both on and off Disney property. Although we much prefert to stay on propert, our stay at the Old Key West Resort was just so-so in comparison to other hotels and resorts. Let me say up front that the room itself, a one bedroom villa, was very comfortable-quite spacious when compared to a typical hotel room. For some reason, we have noticed that lighting in Disney rooms has become dim and somewhat gloomy over the most recent years. This may be the result of the going-green movement, what a shame.

Our disappointment, however, was with the amenities at this location. Granted that it is one of the older properties, but the general areas were cluttered and disappointing, particularly the only restaurant, Olivia's. The menu at Olivia's was far too limited in both style and price. We settled on two seafood choices, what else in a Key West themed restaurant? Both meals were dissatisfying, as the fish was clearly of the frozen variety, and then over-cooked to the point of being both strong and rubbery. This coming after the hostess apparently forgot us, despite issuing one of those electronic beeper devices. If not for the bartender working that evening, we would still be at the bar. Needless to say, we took our remaining meals at the nearby Port Orleans resorts or in the Disney Village. Even the pools and recreation areas seemed lifeless and ordinary. Far from Disney standard.

Finally, we even had a small problem with the housekeeping staff. As we were leaving, a good 2-3 hours before official "check-out time", we were questioned by one of the housekeepers as to whether or not we were yet, "out of the room" in a somewhat pushy manner based upon her body language. This experience was well below Disney standard.

We recommend that this resort perform a much need renovation, both to its structures and staff.

We stayed at Old Key West in a 2 bedroom villa over Thanksgiving week. This was our second stay at OKW. This time we spent more time at the hotel than usual due to the very large crowds in the Disney Theme Parks. The Resort was great. We enjoyed hanging out at the pool. The community center provided plenty of activities for the kids - fooseball, air hockey, darts, board games, & crafts. In the evenings, we checked out DVDs from the the community center and then enjoyed watching them while we ate microwave popcorn in the family room of our villa. The 2 bedroom villa was very spacious and comfortable. We can't wait to go again!

This resort as most disney regulars will know is the oldest one on the disney site, having now visited for the third time in three years I can safely say it is my favourite by a mile, we recently stayed in Animal Lodge which is of course one of the latest additions to the disney collection, whilst I found it to be a wonderful experience and had no complaints at all, I also found myself wanting to be back at Old Key West, this resort is so laid back, the staff are friendly and very helpful, it may be in need of a little TLC and some bathroom refurbishment is required, but cleanliness was not an issue, and if it is complain and it will be rectified. I can't wait to return

We got a great deal from the Disney Travel Agency in the UK for this resort and they threw in the deluxe dining plan for free which was a great benefit.

We have stayed in WDW resort hotels in the past ranging from All Stars to the Grand Floridian but this was the first time in a DVC property and we were impressed. Room size was very generous and service levels matched those of any other resort hotel we have stayed in.

OKW is not heavily themed but its definitely Disney, the resort is wrapped around LBV golf course and the waterway to downtown disney, it is very spread out and many of the villas are a long way from the central services. However there are 4-5 bus stops on site for the WDW transport busses and we never waited longer than 10 mins for a bus. One top tip if you are on Millers road, get off at Peninsular road (first stop on way back into resort) and walk, you will be back at you villa before the bus gets to the Miller road stop. We always beat it back by quite some time and we were at the end of Millers Road.

Would definitely go back, enjoyed watching the golfers on the LBV course from our terrace and realising that there are worse golfers than me out there. Have always ben put off by Disney golf as thought standards would be high on course, but far from it and I'll be playing next time.

The only grump I have is that the resort is close to one of the main arteries through the world and traffic noise was prevalent throughout many parts of the resort. Its about time Disney invested in electric buses as the ones they currently use are very noisy.

I just returned from Disney, Nov 13-18. I wanted to write this review because of some of the negative reviews I've read about Disney's Old Key West Resort. My travel party consisted of myself and my 7 year old son. I found this resort to be very relaxing and enjoyable. All the CMs went out of their way to help in whatever needs you had. This is a large resort and depending on the location you are in, could result in some walking. We were fortunate to be in building 63, very close to the dining and pool area. The rooms were very spacious and clean. The housekeeping staff was very friendly and went out of their way to make sure you had everything you needed for your stay. We utilized the pool every day of our stay and the water was very warm compared to the Port Orleans Riverside pool. My son wanted to swim there one day and we ended up coming back to OKW instead because our pool was warmer. This resort is the oldest of the vacation clubs, but still very nice and relaxing. The rooms could be renovated but still were clean. I can't find one negative thing to say about this resort and wouldn't hesitate to go back at all. In fact, my son said he loved this resort the best...especially the pool and slide. This is a very family friendly resort and have alot of activities for the kids.

My family has been staying at Old Key West for the past 6 years every Christmas for at least 9 days. It is perfect for when the crowds get rreally hectic at the parks, you can go back tot he hotel, go swimming, rent bikes, go to the arcade room, golf, play sports, or just saty in the LARGE rooms! There are so many things to do, and OKW is very homey yet it still feels like you are on vacation.
Whenever we would go ot the parks and order a bucket of popocrn, we would brin some home to fee to the ducks that were usually waddeling around out porch/balcony. Truly every room at OKW has a beautiful view, some better than others but still.
ODW is perfect for families with kisd or teenagers because of the community center with board games, arcade games, and pool table ice hockey, etc.

GO, GO, GO, this is a wonderful hotel, and in 32 days my family will be going "home" once again for a 10 day vacation.
