“Disney has done it again---a wonderful place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2009

Old Key West is a perfect choice for a family visit to Disney in Orlando. We had a big two bedroom apartment within one minute of the bus to all the Disney theme parks. The apt. was completely furnished, including a fully equipped kitchen---we only eat breakfast in the room, but if you wanted to, you could eat other meals as well---they have everything you needed. The room even had a washer and dryer! The whole resort is heavily treed and landscaped and very peaceful. Every neighborhood has its' own swimming pool, as well as a big pool at the main house that is available to all.

We liked the fact that it is not one big building---but many small buildings spread out---that cuts down on the noise and the chaos!!!

The only negative---which was NOT a negative for us---is that it is very quiet, which is NOT good if you have young teens who are looking for activity. We enjoyed the atmosphere very much---but I met some people who wished there were some things for their kids to do without having to go away from the resort. If you have young teens, maybe a place like Boardwalk is a better choice.

We have traveled extensively (see my profile) and also stayed many places at Disney. The Old Key West , while not luxurious, had everything you would want.

We traveled for a week with two kids 17 and 13 years old. The one bedroom suite was great, a great view and clean. We were near the bus stop and busses came often to all parks. Staff was friendly and helpful, we did not want for anything. I would love to go back tommorrow!!

We just returned 2 days ago for a quick, we have to use our DVC points before they expire trip. Our home resort is Saratoga Springs, but they were full. We had to opt for Old Key West. The hotel grounds and exterior are really nice and has the Key West feel to it. We were close to the main pool in section 29. The pool is great, the slide is fun for the grown ups too! Staff were wonderful as usual!!However, they really need to update the rooms and not a SPIT SPOT either as Mary Poppins might say. They need a real renovation. Upon entering our studio, the bed area was fine, but the mattresses were like laying on a flat rock! The bathroom area, was the worst of it. The floors had stains that seemed to have been shalacked over because I tried to wipe them with wipes to no avail! The knob to the sink drawer was missing. The moldings needed a dusting. The bathtub area was painted over and there needed to be caulking, real caulking done around the tub. It was just shabby up keep. The balcony was the clincher for me. I like to have my coffee early in the morning while the family is still sleeping and love sitting on a balcony, but this balcony had NO VIEW! It was surrounded by a thick floridian forest! Nothing, nada...There was the golf course on the other side of the "forest", but you would have to use your imagination as you sat on the balcony to try and figure out what it might look like.
All in all if they would concentrate on renovating these rooms this would definately be a 4 star resort again.

We stayed for 6 nights in a studio. The first 3 in building 40. The rooms are in need of a thorough cleaning as the ceiling vents were clogged with thick dust bunnies. The furniture was dirty on the areas close to the floor. The room safes were antiques.

The main pool is fabulous if you are fortunate enough to be within a half mile. They closed the Turtle Pool by our room on the third day of our trip without notice. We demanded a room change as our room was next to the bus circle and had a view of only the parking lot and the neighbors room.

Our balcony was very small. It was completely filled by 2 plastic chairs and a small table. We did not find it useable as there were 4 air conditionersright next to it making a lot of noise. The ads promised a view of the golf course, water, anything and we could only see the neighbors condo.

We requested a room transfer after the pool was closed. Disney resisted, but I would not give in. We ended up moving closer (building 29). This room was cleaner and had a view of the water taxis. The pool was only a five minute walk from here. Our balcony still did not have a view.

I would choose a moderate resort if you are going to stay on property instead of Old Key West. The value for the money is the worst on property. They have only one option for casual meals if you are on the meal plan. I have also stayed at Saratoga Springs and the Wilderness Lodge which were nicer.

We had a great time at the parks and overall. I just will not stay here next time.

We made our first trip to disney world may 3-8, 2009.
Our stay at Old Key West resort was amazing! they were very friendly and helpful. the bell service was wonderful...if an resort bus wasnt available bell srvc would take us back to our room. we had a one bedroom w lock off for my parents. it was perfect. great to have an apartment setting for kids. we had driver from airport stop at publix for food at better prices. we made breakfasts at home and snacks drinks etc. we did the meal plan which ended up being great! ample food! the pool was a blast for the kids and there rae afew little pool around resort. we were right across form a smaller pool which was a bonus...so maybe request that when booking b/c it was great for late nites. pool open til 12~midnte. we loved this resort and hope to return very soon! have fun!

We had a great time at Disney's Old Key West resort. We are not Disney Vacation Club members, but found great rates through a web only booking site. This resort is primarily used for DVC members and can be rather pricey during peak times. We got lucky...price was good and the crowds were low.

We stayed in a studio which included a fridge, microwave, sink and coffee pot. The bathroom and bedroom areas were good sized. The room also included a quaint belcony that was perfect for a relaxsing breakfast...only big enough for two people though.

My only complaint is the lack of dining choices on site. The French Quarter and Saratoga Springs resorts (near by) had much more to choose from.

We arrived at Old Key West after 3 p.m. on a Friday. Things were busy, but the line moved fast and it was an expedient check-in process. We were assigned in the 64 building (which is within walking distance of the main lobby). We stayed in a one-bedroom apartment. We were very happy when we walked into the room.
The living space is huge compared to a regular Disney Resort room. The room is equipped with a full kitchen (oven, stove, microwave, dishwasher, full refrigerator and garbage disposal). The kitchen has all the appliances and utensils needed for your stay (even wine glasses). They even supplied the soap for the dishwasher, washer & sink. The refrigerator even has an ice maker. There is plenty of storage space throughout the apartment for luggage & such. The TV is under the kitchen island, facing the loving room area, along with a DVD player (movies can be rented on site). Sofa pulls out to a bed (big enough for two kids).
The master bedroom was a nice size with a king bed. The bedroom has plenty of dresser space and there is a TV in there as well. The bathroom is separated in two areas. There is the main bathroom area, with a sink, shower, and toilet. It has one door that goes out to the laundry room and then the living room. The other door goes into the master bedroom. On the master bedroom side, there is a whirlpool tub for two with another single sink. The closet in the whirlpool room also has a safe. The bathroom has one vanity, blow dryer, space underneath the sink to store stuff and typical bath accessories.
The bedroom, living area and balcony all have ceiling fans. The only complaint I have about the room is that the toilets are the European water-saver toilets, which are good but loud. When your neighbor flushes there toilet, you can hear it. Also, the building is pretty old and the walls are thin, so you can hear people running around (we were on the second floor). The rooms are showing there age, but still a very nice room.
Been to Key West a few times, and the resort has managed to capture the same laid-back feeling. The music that they pipe throughout the hotel lobby and restaurants and pool area is buffet-style music. It is great, but they do not have a channel on their TV which provides this music for you to enjoy in the room.
For parks transportation, they have buses that go around the resort (internally), with multiple bus stops in the resort. They also have a boat that goes to Downtown Disney (last boat is at 11 pm), but don’t worry because they also have a bus that goes to Downtown Disney too.
We only spent a few hours at the main area pool area, and it has a fun water slide for all ages. There is a hot tub along with a sauna. They even have a little sand area wit beach chairs. Towels can be picked up at the pool entrance. Seemed liked they had activities going on all day for the kids too.
We had dinner at Olivia’s restaurant. It was a good meal, not as expensive as the theme parks (try their crab cakes). We have season passes to Disney, so we also have the “Tables in Wonderland” card (For Floridians only) and Olivia’s is one of the participating restaurants. They serve breakfast, lunch & dinner. They had a snack bar around the corner for burgers and things. They also have a store called Conch Flats that sells Old Key West shirts, along with typical Disney stuff and some food and drink items.
If you are staying, I would recommend going food shopping (either take a taxi to the closet grocery store or rent a car for one day) for all of your groceries during your stay. I do not know if Disney has some kind of plan where they fill up the refrigerator for you or not, but check if you are interested. We are not in the Disney Vacations Club.
We did the express check out, so no need to go to the front desk and wait in line. I would recommend this resort to anyone to visit. The grounds are beautiful and everyone that works there are super nice. I could stay there for a week and not be sick of it.
