“Another great visit at our second home”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

We have stayed here countless times, both with kids when they were younger and now just the two of us. This is our "home" resort as DVC members, and never fails to please. We stayed in unit 1814 on Millers road - great views of golf course, pond with fountain and distant view of hospitality house. We had a ground floor unit and upstairs neighbors were a bit noisy at times (thats the tradeoff for a first floor unit) but only a minor annoyance. The restaurant here has improved quite a bit over the years - now very good with excellent service. We will (of course) be back!

Having visited the resort frequently I feel the resort is losing its appeal. Despite having a refit the rooms have lost the wow factor. We had to complain about the cleanliness of the floor because we had a toddler and just got a deep, clean towards the end of the holiday. As we travel in a group they never seem to be able to put our villas together, we can't understand this in such a big resort and we ask 12 months in advance. It would be better to have more restaurants like other resorts. It still has the charm and the buildings and colours are very appealing. I like the music they play. We found this visit the transport system was poor, we were waiting half an hour sometimes for a bus, not something we had previously experienced. A bit disappointed this time but would go back again.

I am a DVC member and this was my first time to stay at OKW resort. The staff was absolutely wonderful from the moment we arrived until the time we checked out. I liked the added touch of balloon animals at check in. My children were thrilled to get something so simple. The 1 bedroom was incredibly spacious with plenty of storage. It was very clean. Even though I was in one of the busiest places in the world, I felt like I was on a peaceful, tropical island resort. Thank you for such wonderful memories.

Ok so I will list my complaints first and then write the good stuff. First of all, the resort is HUGE so we were thankful to be near the hospitality house (Check in, pool, activities, etc..) and we didn't have to walk far. The food avail here was so so. Olivia's was good but service was slow. It took us 2 hours with 4 ancy kids to get through dinner. The Quick Service option at Gurgling Suitcase was yucky. The meals tasted like they were all premade, seemed like they were low on staff and both times we ate here, they forgot numerous items in our orders. The whole process with the Disney refillable mug is a rip off. We received our mugs free with the dining plan but did not use them bc the line to get them filled was about 10 minutes long! Why can't Disney come up with a better solution to this? Plus you can't even use them at the parks. They are a waste. The pool really needs a closer bar. The bar is far to walk to and so are the bathrooms. Finally, the housekeeping was less than stellar. I understand that they don't come everyday but when they did come the one time, all they did was empty 2 garbage cans. We washed all our own towels and made our own beds bc housekeeping did not. We found an old plate with grease stains under the pull out couch. No fun towel animals for the kids, either. One other piece of advice, do not waste your money on Disney Floral. I ordered a birthday bouquet to be ready for us at check in at 4:30pm for my daughter's 8th bday. We did not receive it until 8:30 at night! By then she was tired and didn't care much. I felt I wasted $57 on that.
Ok so the good?? Well we had a 2 bedroom villa and it was SO big!! I seriously could live there. The decor isn't anything spectacular but we didn't care. We had 8 people and were very comfortable. The pool was nice and the slide was fun. My kids loved the poolside games with the staff. The community hall room was a big hit. They made a bunch of crafts and played xbox. We also rented the surrey bikes. They were neat but not a lot of area to ride. You can't ride in the street or on golf paths. You will not need more than a half hour on these. The gift shop was nice and offered many DVC member items so that was cool! The boat ride over to Downtown Disney was so relaxing but lets you off in Pleasure Island. We do all our shopping near the Lego store so we decided to take the bus back. That was a mistake with Saturday night Orlando traffic! The busses seemed to be fairly regular but maybe a little less of them as usual. We had A LOT of problems with our bands but the staff at OKW was always helpful and friendly. They did more than enough for us to make sure we were happy. We are excited to come back again to OKW this fall!

Our extended family of 5 adults and two children (5 and 12) thoroughly enjoyed a four night stay at the Old Key West Resort. We had a two-bedroom villa which met our needs to a T--grandparents (us) in the king suite, daughter, son and wife in the two queen suite, and grandkids on the pull-out sofa and chair In the living area. The two bathrooms were perfect for our needs. The one adjoining the queen suite had a tub/shower and stool separate from the sink area. The other bathroom adjoining the king suite had a large whirlpool tub and pedestal sink off the bedroom (no door to this area) and then a separate room beyond that with a shower, stool and vanity. There was a second entrance to this bathroom through the laundry room which was off the front hallway. The bedrooms were very spacious as was the living/dining/kitchen area. The kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel sink was fully stocked with plates, cups, glasses, bowls, baking pans, cooking pans, silverware, utensils, you name it, it was there. And all of these were new and some had never been used. The appliances were updated--full sized refrigerator with ice maker; stove with smooth top, microwave, blender, toaster and dishwasher (which was a little loud when we ran it). A full-size washer and dryer were in the laundry room. Dish soap, dishwasher powder and laundry soap were provided. An upright vacuum, hard surface cleaner, high chair and port-a-crib were also provided. the villa had three tvs, one in each bedroom and one in the living area. There was lots of storage (closets, cupboards) which allowed us to stow away our belongings to keeps all areas clear. Everything was clean and mousekeeping did a good job at tidying up and restocking everything every day while we were out. All the staff were very accommodating and helpful. Our only negative would be the distance of our building (34) to the main area of the resort (Hospitality House). If we had been closer we would have gone there more often for groceries, to eat at the restaurant or to just hang out. We were near an internal bus stop so we could take any bus to the Hospitality House but then we needed to take a different bus to the park we were going to. We really didn't mind the travel time as it gave us time to relax and discuss what we were going to do for the day or to just unwind on the return trip at night. I can't say enough about Old Key West for its accommodations and home-like atmosphere. Others have commented that it does not have enough Disney theming but for us it was a nice break from all of the hustle and bustle of the parks.

Room Tip: First floor is very handy. If you cannot get a room with in walking distance of the Hospitality Hou...

Travelled with 5 adults and 3 children and stayed in a 2 bedroom villa. Loved everything about our trip! It was so easy to get around with the bus system. The pools were fabulous! We had a small one near our villa which was perfect or we could take the bus to the main area where the large one was.

My family had a wonderful time at this resort, despite the fact that I insisted upon being called Papa the entire vacation. Our suite was lovely and very conveniently located close to the bus stop. The staff was very attentive. The kids enjoyed the pool area, and we all enjoyed the restaurant. My favorite part was the re-creation Hemingway's den.
