We always stay on Disney property, so it's hard to avoid making comparisons between the resorts. Still, the experience always depends on what you are looking for; in our case, we wanted the most affordable Deluxe Disney resort during the Christmas season. Old Key West (OKW) was perfect for this purpose. Staff were very friendly and courteous. The arts and crafts were great fun for the kids in the Community Hall. Pool was also very nice. Specific pros and cons:

Pros: 1) Beautiful grounds, places to jog, 2) water taxi to Downtown Disney, 3) studio units have two beds instead of bed + sofa bed, more spacious and 4) again, most affordable Deluxe/Vacation Club property. We decided to stay an extra night.

Cons: 1) Gym adequate, nice equipment, but small compared to other properties, 2) No indoor quick service dining - problematic when weather is not cooperating. Limited options, nothing very healthy.

I would stay again, but would probably choose over other Disney properties if I were specifically looking to save money or Disney vacation points, or for the extra bed. Others in my family preferred Saratoga Springs. If you book, make sure you ask for ground floor room if anyone has problems with stairs, as most buildings do not have elevators. Also, we enjoyed walks and had nice weather, but ask about distance from the Hospitality Center if that is a concern for you. Bus stops are located throughout to Downtown Disney and theme parks.

There is a reason why Old Key West is a best kept secret and it is the spacious rooms. Although, we usually prefer the more themed Disney Resorts, Old Key West is a the clear winner when it comes to spacious rooms.
We stayed in a one bedroom, one bath room. The room had a full kitchen, washer & dryer, hot tub and bathroom with 2 entries. There was a queen sofa bed and a single sleeper in the living room along with a balcony with table and 4 chairs. The rooms have recently been updated.
We found Olivia's offered fresh, reasonably priced table service food. I wish they had a lounge.
The resort is spread out quite a bit so there is alot of walking involved if you don't want to take the internal resort bus. We don't mind the walking at all.
I believe that why the resort appears un-kept to some guests is because it is so large and it is surrounded by shrubbery which can make it look like of rural.
We didn't encounter any problems with the buses but again, it is a large property and the bus makes several stops within the resort. We usually just got out at the first stop and walked. It is closest to Downtown Disney which is a great place for shopping and dining.
Once again, if you are traveling with a large family this is the largest accommodation on Disney property.

Room Tip: Stay closer to the Hospitality House if you have problems with mobility.

First time to stay here and OMG, absolutely Beautiful! Room were extremely spacious and well kept. Cleanliness was the best. Grounds were beautiful. Noise was non-existent. Bus service was spot on with no waits. Boat service from Downtown Disney was such a lovely treat. Cast members were so friendly. This was an absolutely delightful place to stay. Cozy and inviting. Loved it so much that I've already booked a trip to stay there again.

We stayed 10/22/13-10/26/13. As this is our first luxury stay, we were amazed by the size of the rooms. We had a 2br Villa. It comes with a full kitchen, baking sheet, can openers, pots/pans, dishes and utensils. There is also a coffee makers and full size fridge. There is washer/dryer on site. A jacuzzi bathtub that my toddler swam in and a shower. The second bathroom comes with a shower. This is a DVC property and I don't think the newer ones have this many sq ft. If you can still buy into this property I would. It was really a home away from home!

The reviews noting that this hotel is a bit dingy and run down are accurate. They have modernized the door entry with the Magic Bands, but that is about it. The quality of the room furniture, bedding and bathrooms is suboptimal. Having previously preferred the local Marriott chain resorts, this was a shock. A shock in how far below Marriott quality this resort was.

The most disappointing thing was how dirty everything was. Dust everywhere, despite the turnover! The bathroom is sparse, really sparse. Showers are budget quality. The tub is fine, kids like it, but nothing special compared to other resorts.

The shuttles were fine, but slow. Takes about 40 minutes to get from the first pickup spot to most of the parks. If you are housed away from the central pool area, expect up to a 20 minute walk to the pool and hospitality center. There are other scattered pools, but the ones that kids want is central (has a little sandcastle slide).

The food is average at Olivia's. If you have kids, go elsewhere. Downtown Disney was a 15 minute boat ride away and they have lots of options on the dinning plan or cash.l

Check in took awhile, long lines even with preregistration, but the are pleasant.

There is little to no communication between the bell staff, front desk and you. They were not very helpful at all (bell hop) although somewhat friendly. They messed up with our baggage and never truly apologized.

The pool area with the slide is nice. The movie screen next to the sand beach is nice as well, though a bit displaced.

Room Tip: Stay away from south point area if you have little kids...too long of a walk.

We had a 2-bedroom for 9 nights, and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The theming is not strong, but the large size of the rooms and peaceful view over the golf course more than made up for it. The bus system worked well, and we were within 30 minutes of every theme park. Between FastPass+ and morning Extra Magic Hours, we were able to get through most of the must-see attractions in the morning, come back to the villa for a few hours, and then head back for dinner and shows in the evening. The full kitchen saved us a lot of money on meals. Our granddaughter enjoyed the pool, and didn't know what she was missing from the other resorts. This is by far our favorite place to stay at Disneyworld.

It is okay. Check in went well, very friendly, we arrived early so the room was not ready but we were told that someone was in it cleaning. The rooms are a nice size, the resort has a nice feel. This is our check in date 2013-12-20. Garbage was still in the room- makes you wonder what else was not cleaned. Called house keeping. Wine glasses looked dirty so we ended up washing dishes before use only to discover no dish cloth - call house keeping again. Moved a chair ( the pull out) I would say house keeping never moves or cleans under furniture. I think for the money I should not have to clean upon arrival. We will see how the week goes and maybe things will improve. Also disappointed that the BBQ are not gas and you have to purchase charcoal to use.
