I almost hate to share this well kept secret, however I don't think it is a "well kept" secret anymore! What a wonderful resort Disney's Old Key West is. The grounds are beautiful and we love being able to park right next to our room. We had a fantastic room right next to one of the quiet pools and enjoyed that very much. We went for our 22nd anniversary and it was made special by a nice voice message left by "the mice (mickey/minnie)...we also walked into two beautiful Swan's made from towels and two love birds on the table. We also received a special card. What a wonderfully relaxing vacation, Disney style. We went for rest and relaxation, not too much park hopping this time. Couldn't recommend another resort more than this one! The room was very very clean and very large. We had two queen sized beds and a nice table with chairs. A nice little patio to sit outside also.

Another thing to note is how quiet the resort is, especially where we stayed. I would recommend renting a car if you are going to stay here, although on our last visit to Old Key West we did not have a car and the bus system was excellent, so don't let that deter you from staying here!!

We will definitely be staying here again, and again and again!!!!

We came with friends who have a DVC timeshare at Disneyworld. This is a beautiful resort! We stayed in 3922, which was a second floor 2 bedroom suite. It was spacious and well-supplied with kitchen amenities and plenty of towels. This particular building is close to the road (that passes the outside of the resort) and almost the farthest you can be from the hospitality house, but neither was of major consequence really. There was a bus stop not far from the building, but we chose to walk to/from the hospitality house on 3 different occasions during our 4-day stay. You could hear some vehicle sounds from the road traffic, and sounds from the first and third floor units occasionally, but nothing truly disturbing.

It was clean, spacious, and generally quiet. (The toilet flushing sound was reminiscent of an airplane toilet and startlingly loud!)

We were happy with our stay here!

This is Disney Vacation Club's first resort. It is peaceful, sprawling and offers the largest rooms in all the DVC offerings. Mostly well-maintained, I saw some rough edges on stairwells and signs or wear and rust. The resort is aging and is not being fine-tuned in some areas. Some of the oldest cement structures have started to crumble on balconies, but it seems they are repaired within a few months.

But the resort is a step away on campus from the crowds. And if you are spending time at Downtown Disney, a water taxi leaves every 20 minutes from the main clubhouse dock bound for the busy DD area. It's a beautiful ride through a canal passed Saratoga Springs and lands at Downtown Disney's Westside near Cirque Soleil and the House of Blues. Perfect for a concert at the HOB's or for a night at Cirque Soleil. Because the resort is sprawling, it's a long walk to the main building where the sandcastle slide, pool and restaurant is located. Watch for buses that read "resort interior" on the marque if you don't want to walk the distance.

Room Tip: Don't get a room that backs up to the golf course if you sleep late as the golf course is blown...

I have been a vacation club member since 1999 and have stayed at all of the DVC resorts on property. I always try to stay at Old Key West. I particularly like the size of the rooms at this property. The two bedroom villas are like staying in a condo due to size and layout. It is important that when reserving a two bedroom make sure you request a unit with a the separate entrance to enter the main bathroom so your other guests don't have to go through the main bedroom to get to that particular bathroom. I also like the atmosphere of the resort and layout. It is nice in the morning to sit out on the balcony and look over the golf course. The other feature I am particularly fond of is the small bar down at the main building. The Gurgling Suitcase seats maybe 15 people tops and the staff is always friendly. It is a nice place to wind down at the end of the day after racing around the park. Finally, with free internet now in the rooms and late night pizza delivery until midnight for me it is the perfect place to stay.

We stayed here for two weeks in June and loved it. Our studio was more than big enough for the two of us and the location (South Point) was ideal for one of the quieter pools and the bus stop. Being one of the deluxe resorts you were never overwhelmed with Disney memorabilia at every turn yet there were occasional reminders here and there. We booked the Wild Africa Trek (well worth doing!) through the concierge and all the cast members were extremely knowledgeable and more than happy to help. The resort itself is really big yet we never felt cramped, in fact it feels more like a self contained village than a resort. Buses ran to all the parks frequently and we were never left waiting long. We mostly took the boat to Downtown because we found it quicker than the bus (and a nice alternative). We had breakfast a few times at Goods To Go and were happy with the quality of food and sitting by the water was a nice way of spending an hour or two. The general store was also really useful and well stocked with everything you’d need. Looking forward to staying here again.

We stayed here for 1 week in September 2013. We were a party of 3 adults (one with mobility and ASD/Learning difficulties).

I booked this hotel along with Disney tickets and got the free Disney Dining Plan plus $100 giftcard via the Disney.co.uk website.

When booking the hotel I did request a ground floor room near amenities and hospitality house due to the mobility difficulties of one of the party.

When you stay at a Disney hotel and fly into MCO airport you have the opportunity to use Disney's free shuttle service - Disney's Magical Express. The signs for this in the airport are not very good and staff sent us several times to the wrong place looking for it - if you are using this Disney's ME check-in desk is located on the B side of the terminal (although there are no signs indicating this when you arrive!) on level 1.

Old Key West was happily the first drop off for us and we were met at the shuttle by the bellboys who put all our luggage on a cart and stored it whilst we checked in.

The lobby area is quite big and well decorated. There were a few people arriving but there was no wait to check in. At check in we were initially given a room that was on the second floor. We were informed there were no lifts and I explained this would be unsuitable for our needs.

We were then asked if we could take the room and swap the following day - we were not keen to do this as we had dining reservations and plans already made.

The check-in CM made a couple of calls and allocated us a disabled room 2711. The room was an upgrade from a studio to a suite.

We got a lift with our luggage in a golf cart to the room which was actually a very short walk away from hospitality house (lobby), shop, boat dock, main pool etc and was literally next to the resort bus stop - a perfect location for us.

Our suite was HUGE. It consisted of a large living room / kitchenette area with a full size kitchen, dining table and chairs, pull out double sofa bed, pull out single chair bed and a sofa as well as flat screen large TV with cable, a laundry room with washer/dryer and complimentary detergent, a bedroom with a kingsize bed, ample storage, flat screen TV etc, a Jacuzzi bath tub and sink plus a separate toilet with sink and walk in shower with a seat. We also had a large balcony accessible from the bedroom and living room with seating and tables and a view of the lake and a water feature. All the rooms had ceiling fans.

Rooms were clean, light, airy and very well decorated. There were ample towels, bedding etc provided and mousekeeping came in daily and replaced used items, put any dirty plates etc in the dishwasher and set it off as well as cleaning the rooms thoroughly. We especially liked the fact Disney has put recycling bins in place in the kitchen area.

The fold out double bed in the living room wasnt the most comfortable and the mattress seemed a little thin but after a day spent at the parks you didnt really notice.

The in-room safe was very very small - just about 14x14 inch square and maybe 2 inch deep - not big enough to store a decent camera in or a large laptop but just enough for cash, passports and docs.

Free wi-fi was available throughout the resort and worked very well and quickly.

Security was evident - you often saw them travelling around the resort on bikes, golf carts, cars and boats and the whole place felt incredibly safe and secure.

The main pool was excellent (we didnt try the quieter pools) with a life guard on duty and plenty of activities going on through out the day - it could get a bit loud at times but as very good.

The onsite shop was good stocking a selection of the usual Disney gifts, sweets and treats as well as food and drink items. As it's a resort shop these were slightly more expensive than going to a supermarket to buy them (e.g. $3.50 for a 2l bottle of coke) but not so overly priced as to put you off.

There is a restaurant in the resort - Olivia's - we didnt use this so cant comment on service and food there.

There is no quick service food court and this lets the resort down slightly when compared to other similarly priced ones. There is a small grab and go snack bar type place called 'goods to go' - this is where you can get your resort mug filled and buy a variety of food items. It is open from around 7am-11pm daily.

The ferry to downtown disney runs every 20 minutes or so and this is a nice alternative to using the resort buses. The ferry stop is at the Disneyquest side or DTD rather than the marketplace area and its a fairly long walk to get to the market place - there is a DTD shuttle ferry available that goes between the 2 areas though that is free to use.

The disney buses run pretty regularly from the resort to the parks and DTD. Buses run around every 20 minutes or so. They can take around 10-15 minutes to travel around the resort as OKW is huge. Travelling to the parks you need to factor this into your journey times - most journeys to the parks took around 25-45 minutes depending on traffic and which park you were heading to (animal kingdom is the furthest away). If you are eating at any of the resorts allow extra time to get to these - either go to DTD and get that resort bus or to a park and the bus out.

I would definitely stay here again especially if Disney continue with the excellent free DDP offer.

I would recommend this resort to anyone who is planning on staying at Disney - it is a lot quieter than some of the other resorts and there is plenty of room and on site activities for everyone.

Other useful info:

If you are staying here without a car you can still get to other parks /shops outside of the disney area cheaply without resorting to taxis:

Other parks (Seaworld/Universal)

Use the resort transportation to DTD (you can also go to Ticket and Transport Centre but the resort is located at DTD so makes more sense to go from there!)

Ask a CM where the lynx bus stop is (there are 2 one near the market place ad one near west side/PI area)

For seaworld - get the lynx 50 to seaworld - get off for seaworld /aquatica here.

For universal get off at seaworld and change to lynx 8 down i-drive. Get off at the stop after wet n wild. You can walk from here to Universal (allow 25 minutes - there is a path the entire way with crossings which is pretty well lit during the night but you are going to be walking along the highway) or you can cross the road and get lynx bus number 37 and universal is the first stop.

Lynx tickets are $4.50 for a day ticket or $2 for one way ticket (including up to 1 transfer)

You can also get the lynx bus 50 or walk to cross roads which is around 15 mins walk from DTD and has some shops and restaurants.

For shopping - get the lynx to i-drive then lynx 42 goes to the Florida mall, lynx 40 (change at universal - you would need lynx 50, 8, 37 and then 40 and it can take around 2 hours with waiting) goes to the mall at millenia, lynx 8 and 42 will also take you to the premium outlets on i-drive the i-ride trolley also stops at the outlets

Room Tip: Request a room near a bus stop - this resort is huge and it can take 10-15 minutes to travel around...

Every time we have stayed at Old Key West we have been more than pleased. I think it is the best kept secret of all the Disney places to stay. We have our time share there and we love both the 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom villas. It is like walking into your own condo. No noisy hotel lobbies, no elevators to mess with just park and or get off the bus and walk in. Welcome Home!!! The big pool is fantastic and the smaller pools are great. Nice to have one or two balconies to sit out and see a view of the lake or a golf course. Olivia's is a neat place to eat and the help is friendly. It is easy to rent a boat and cruise the canals in comfort. We love Old Key West and have rented it out to friends who love it and can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of either water, pool or golf........many fabulous places with views.
