“One of Disney's Best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2013

This has to be one of the best Disney Resorts we have stayed at. Upon our arrival we checked-in in less than ten minutes and taken by the bell service to our villa. We booked a one bed villa but were given a two bedroom one in block 37 - no idea why but thanks very much.
......and what a villa. Huge master bedroom / spa tub / 4 sinks / shower room / another double bedroom / full / kitchen / mass of storage etc etc .Wow

Everyday mousekeeping did an excellent job and the little touches with the towels and my daughters' toys were so much appreciated. We spoke to Sandie (housekeeping manager) who popped in to see if all was o.k. - no complaints just compliments

There are a lot of negatives on here about buses / food etc.
Buses - run as frequently as any buses in WDW - miss one, so wait a few minutes, not the end of the world.
Rooms are far away
- no they are not - our room was about a 10 min walk to the Hospitality House and it was a lovely way to start or finish the day. Again it doesn't hurt and will do a lot of you a world of good and may even make a start on the US obesity problem which is alive and well
Olivia's is a great restaurant and like everything in Disney staffed by attentive friendly people.
Goods to Go offers simple take out which is limited but you have to remember this is not an hotel as such but a vacation club so most vacationers will have a car load of food to stock up their fridge and cupboards. If you want food courts - try All Stars etc ...

We went to a couple of Character Breakfasts and had no problems with early transport. We were in the parks and to the restaurants long before our scheduled time - this was same for extra magic hours.

I would recommend staying here anytime - we would go back tomorrow. This is not our first Disney hotel - we can compare it to : All Stars / Dixie Landings / Animal Kingdom Lodge / Caribbean Beach

Wow Wow Wow. We loved every moment and aspect of OKW. Can't imagine staying anywhere else on disney property now. 1bedroom villa was beautiful. Enjoyed the pool and the peaceful and beautiful surroundings. Olivia's restaurant was one of our favourite meals of the holiday. Buses and boat were frequent. All cast members so helpful and friendly. Can't wait to return one day!

Our favorite place to stay when we come to Walt Disney World. Studios have two beds which are a great plus. It is tucked away and never seems crowded. Best deal for the points or money. We will stay here as often as we can ..... First Choice!

We booked a Disney property so that we could take advantage of the magic hours, and park transport. We chose Old Key West because it was one of the few properties we could find that had a two bedroom option.

Old Key West met our expectations on all of these counts.

The rooms are massive. Seriously. I've been in some London flats that are smaller than these "rooms"! We had a huge, and extremely comfortable bed in our room, along with a large flat screen TV cunningly hidden in the cabinet; the world's largest spa bath in our bathroom (it fitted two adults and two children comfortably). The laundry room (large washer and dryer) was located next to our bathroom, and it was a Godsend. The grown ups bathroom was split into two: in one area, the wardrobe, spa bath and a basin, in the other, the loo, shower and another basin, so my husband and I could stay out of each others' hair!

The children had an enormous room with two king sized beds, two sinks in the bathroom, a bath, loo and two wardrobes, as well as a generous chest of drawers. No shortage of space, even in the living area, which had sofas (we never actually sat on them as we were hardly in the room), a dining table, breakfast bar, flat screen TV, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, fridge freezer and cooker (Brits, please note, not kettle, though a stovetop kettle was supplied - but took forever to boil.

The toiletries were nice (H20+ which is a great brand) and plentiful, there were a gazillion fluffy towels (many of which were arranged artfully into swans on our beds, and other bits of towel topiary).

The staff were exceptional, as you would expect in America, and especially at Disney. They couldn't do enough for us, everything was incredibly well organised and efficient.

The two pools we used were excellent and had good activities for the children, they loved the main pool waterslide.

Those are the good bits.

There were bad bits, however.

When we arrived I was astounded at the state of our room. Not to put too fine a point on it, it was filthy. There was debris all over the floor by the sink (it looked like rice, but could have been something far worse....), there were cobwebs over the glass patio doors which were practically opaque due to dirt, debris on the bathroom floor, grit grime and dust by the telephone etc. In my student days I worked as a housemaid in NZ and I'd have been sacked had I left a room like this. I rang to complain and got an excellent response, promising a deep clean. Errrr, I don't think so. I had to phone again the next day. I took photos of the dust and cobwebs etc and the hotel manager blanched when she saw them on my phone. The second deep clean was much better, however, cleaning the windows from outside had left a puddle of water on the dining room floor, which I mopped up with towels - the dirt left on the floor clearly showing on the white towels.

The cleaning manager rang to follow up and make sure it was better, which is was, but I have to say, no hotel room should ever be left in that kind of a state for guests. You could hear your feet crunch on the floor. Ick.

I also have to make a mention of the "hairdrier" in the room. I have very fine hair which usually dries in an instant, but this hairdrier was something else again. Possibly the slowest, least powerful hairdrier in the history of the universe. Bring your own.

We were on the Disney Quick service dining plan, which I wouldn't do again due to the dearth of healthy options on this plan. There are only two restaurants at OKW, which is incredible due to the size of this place. We couldn't eat at Olivia's, which looked nice, but ate a few times at Goody's. The food was good, but it was pretty much all burgers, hot dogs etc, with a token Caesar Salad. What I wouldn't have given for a plate of fruit! The little bar there was quite nice, but I need to be clear that unless you are lucky, the rooms are a long, long, way away from the main Hospitality Centre - you can take a bus, but you might wait 20 mins.

We were lucky in that our room was about a 4 minute walk to a bus stop, and we took the park transport most days. Most days we were lucky and waited no more than about 10 mins for the bus to our park, but one day we waited 25 mins. The buses do not seem to be coordinated with the parks that have the magic hours - I think that Disney is missing a trick here, they should front load the buses to the parks which open the hour early. If you are booking here, check to see where your room is, in relation to a bus stop. Our room (in the 49 block) was near the South Point bus stop which was one of the first to pick up - important on busy mornings, as some people couldn't get on and had to wait for another bus.

I probably would come back here again. It's handy for Downtown Disney (though the boat didn't run on most nights due to lightning), close to many of the parks and is in a very pretty setting. The room configuration really suited us and the bed was exceptionally comfortable (not something I often write in a review). If the room had been clean on arrival I would probably have given it a much higher rating, and if we do go next time we will be upgrading our dining plan, and checking where we are in relation to the buses. The resort is also exceptionally pretty, wooden pastel buildings well set out in the lush surroundings.

Room Tip: Check the location of your room in relation to the hospitality house and the bus stops, especially i...

After previously staying at the Swan & Dolphin Hotel, we decided to try out Disney's Old Key West Resort. We travelled as a family, 2 adults and 2 children aged 13 and 8. The resort itself is absolutely beautiful, immaculately landscaped and reminds you of an old fashioned Florida. We stayed in a Studio which was more than big enough for the 4 of us, with plenty of storage and a kitchen with fridge, coffee maker, microwave etc. We were on the ground floor, the balcony was very small and our view of the golf course was obscured by the trees but to be honest we were never out on the balcony, always out and about so this didnt bother us at all. We stayed in Turtle Pond which is a little way out from the Hospitality House and the main pool but we never found this to be a problem as transport within the resort was regular, we waited no more than 5 minutes for buses to all parks and we always got a seat and a regular boat service goes to Downtown Disney every 15/20 minutes. We were also close to the Turtle Shack which had its own pool and snack bar but we never used this as the girls preferred the slide at the main pool. Service from the staff was excellent, nothing was a problem. Olivia's food was excellent, tried this for breakfast and dinner and also Good's to Go was handy for the Quick Service breakfasts, with refillable drinks station. If we were to go back to Disney we would definitely stay at this resort again.

We stayed here for 11 of our 21 night stay (Jul 27th to Aug 7th)in Florida and really loved the place. The room was very clean and had plenty of room for the four of us. As with most Disney resorts the staff couldn't help us enough to meet all of our needs. Only had breakfast in the Resort Restaurant due to poor reviews but we couldn't fault the choice, quality and service of our meal. Our only criticism is of the size/shape of the safe in the room, it was about 18 inches high by 12 inches across which you think would be good, but unfortunately it was only about 2 inches deep! We had to balance ipads, documents, phones on top of each other and there was no way we could get out camera in them.
The bus service to each of the disney parks were at least every 15 minutes, a lot of the time they seemed to be more frequent. The drivers were very courteous, friendly and helpful. Would stay again.

Just stayed at Disney,s Old Key West resort. The villa we stayed in was beautiful, a great size boasting kitchen, including dish washer. Washing machine and dryer and the biggest Jacuzzi bath. The complex was spot on, the staff so helpful, especially ken at Olivia,s restaurant. We took our 2 boys 14yrs, who just loved spending time at the main pool area. I highly recommend you get the disney dining plan, it will save you a fortune! The complex is near to all the parks and the bus service is excellent. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!!
