If you read a previous review from 2012 you will see I looked forward to moving to our usual villa from 5 days at OKW. Well, we found this such a disappointment that we booked 2 weeks at OKW for may 2013 booking a 1 bed villa for my husband's 50th birthday holiday. Fab fab fab. Turtle shack pool area fabulous, service fantastic. We sat everyday in the beautiful weather visiting parks using magic hours only. We had a car but used boat to downtown disney which is manic to park. We had dining plan, again full marks all round. Rebooked already for sept 2014. All on site restaurants eateries very good; service excellent. No complaints. Wonderful holiday and very unlike our usual annual Orlando breaks; less driving and more relaxing.

Room Tip: Even though it was just 2 of us we felt the 1 bed was the minimum we wanted as used to space as alwa...

We enjoyed our week long stay at the Old Key West Resort. The main facilities at the Hospitality House were perfect for our family of four. The swimming pool slides, dining at Olivia's and the Disney Bus Service to the various parks were perfect.

Things that need improvement:

1. SECURE wireless internet connection for rooms. Our wireless room internet connection was public and non-secure. The signal strength was so weak that it wouldn't work with my iPAD in the bedroom.

2. DVD player was old and outdated with the typical audio and video RCA connections. The remote control for the TV did not work with the DVD player. The DVD player had to be operated with the buttons on the unit itself. No DVD players were installed in any of the bedrooms.

3. The pull blinds on the back door, leading out to the patio were the horizontal type and difficult to operate.

4. Ice maker was not turned on and ready upon our arrival.

5. The air conditioning unit has trouble keeping upstairs units cool when temperatures exceed 85 F.

6. The bed linens could be of a higher quality.

For the money spent, I felt like this resort was about average. I think there are many small things that could be done to improve this experience. Overall - a nice place. But, the items above were distracting, especially the lack of a secure internet connection.

Room Tip: Lower floors in the Summer will help stay cool. Stay closer to internet sources for stronger wirele...

We've stayed at Old Key West Resort a couple of times and have found it be a great place to stay. We have stayed in a studio and a 2 bedroom apartment, and the facilities were excellent and the rooms were always well maintained and clean. The reception and club facilities were all really good, and the kids really enjoyed the facilities for the under 16's. We would love to go back here again...providing it doesn't get too expensive.

Stayed at Old Key West for the first time in May 2012 and enjoyed it so much we booked again for May 2013. My family and I (2 adults & 2 kids aged 10 & 11) love this resort and are just debating whether to go back next year or give the bank balance a bit of time to recover and go back 2015.
I'll start the review with the 'bad' or slightly negative issues regarding the resort;
Size: could be good or bad depending on your point of view but the resort is huge and if you're located at the far southern end of the resort then you can have a good 10 - 15 minute (brisk) walk, in the Florida heat, to the hospitality house area. That said, there are pools located around the site and a snack bar at Turtle Pond.
Dining Options: There is only one table service (Olivia's) and one (and a bit if you include the Turtle Shack) quick service restaurant on site. Both options are fine but a better quick service option for breakfast in particular would be good.
Bus Transportation: Because the resort is so big, it can take 20minutes + to get around the resort on the bus before you even head off to whatever park you're going to. The other thing we noticed this year was that the wait occasionally hit 40 minutes whereas last year we never waited for more than 20 minutes. We also noticed that there were instances where 3 buses, to the same park, arrived in convoy.
Room Selection: From the time of booking - nearly twelve months in advance - right up to calling from the airport in the UK before boarding our flight to Orlando, we requested on numerous occasions, a room near the hospitality area. We made these requests via our travel agent, the front desk directly and via the online check in. Despite this, we still did not get a room near the hospitality area.
After reading the negative it's difficult to pinpoint what was positive but it just was and the stuff mentioned above is more of just a nuisance than anything that would spoil your stay here.
The staff, the atmosphere, the rooms, the whole ambience of the place is Disney but with a relaxed, laid back feel. Absolutely love it and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Disney.

Room Tip: Top floor, near the hospitality area, with a balcony facing Epcot - for the Illuminations. Good luck...

But it's time for some refurbishment.my family & I stayed here last year as well as this summer in June 2013. A few comments on the rooms: the bathroom shower had mold in between the tile and shower door, the shower temperature would go from too hot to to cold (probably just a bad mixer), the door for the TV cabinet in the living area which also serves as the kitchen island had loose hinges so the door would not close, the living room furniture is starting to look faded etc...

In spite of the above The Disney 'cast' at the resort are superb and really know how to make everyone feel special they are efficient caring and friendlier than staff at any 5 star hotel staff could ever be, this is from the time you get on the bus at the airport (if you are using the magical express) until you are at the airport on your way home.

Some of the great things about the resort are the ferry from old key west to downtown Disney, the bus service from the resort to other points in the resort and to the Disney Parks, beautiful landscaped grounds throughout the resort, the Disney movies in the evening by the pool, the ability to BBQ at the resort, the activities available for the kids at the community hall etc...

Room Tip: If you have a large group and are traveling with lots of luggage or if you have elderly take a groun...

This hotel seems to be our favorite Disney resort. It's quiet, peaceful and very beautyful. We stayed in a one bedroom villa before which is huge. A very nice king bed with a great bathroom. A large kitchen with all the utilities you need. Every morning we had breakfast on the balcony. Tip, ask for a topfloor villa because of all the growth sighting is limited. Last year we rented a studio cause it is more price friendly. Huge rooms with 2 queens, small kitchen, large bathroom. With 2 chairs and a table. It's big enough for 2 persons. You also have small balcony or a porch. Every day we came back we were curious what the housekeeping made from towels, or a nice note. You feel very welcome in this resort. There are also a couple of swimmingpools. Nice to cool off during the hot days. Even though it is a Disney Vacation Club, non members can also book rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a one bedroom in building 62, 63, they have elevators.

I can never say enough nice things when it comes to the Old key West Resort in Disney World. We always stay at this resort each time we visit the area.We reserved a one family room that can sleep up to five people along with a full service kitchen. The rooms are large spacious. The bathrooms are big as well.We had one of the 4 pools located right outside looking out from our patio. The bus stop for all of the theme parks was just a short walk across the road.We could park our rental car right outside directly in front our our building.Everyroom has ceiling fan including the patio. This place is in a very relaxed and laid back.We certainly look forward to going back. The only set back of the room was our jucuzzi did not work.

Room Tip: We always request the rooms at the Miller road area.
