“Charming Whimsical Resort”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

We have just returned from our second stay at OKW and we wouldn't really want to stay anywhere else. The resort is a large and sprawling one and is very much like an immaculately maintained gated community that you might find in the rich areas of Key West itself.

Americans who are used to driving rather than walking may feel that some of the building locations involve long distances but any Brits staying here are unlkely to have a problem . We stayed in building 35 which was a comfortable five minute stroll to the main building although if you're staying with young children you might want to request a room nearer to the Hospitality House check in area.
Those not keen on walking will find that most of the buildings are quite near to bus stops which are only a short ride to the front area.

Although there are limited eating opportunities at this resort, the onsite restaurant ,Olivia's, serves tasty food with truly delicious desserts.

We stayed in a top floor studio apartment which had two double beds , tv, microwave, fridge ,safe and small balcony. It was larger than a regular hotel room and perfect for our needs. We were just two adults staying but the studio would easily accomodate three to four.
One word of warning though, the top floors are only accessible by stairs so anyone with moblilty problems would be advised to request a ground floor location as there are no elevators.

OKW is generally much quieter than the other resorts making it ideal for those who want a slightly slower pace. If anyone feels energetic however there is a tennis court and an enormous golf course. You can also hire bicycles to take a ride on and should this prove too much like hard work you can hire a boat and explore the river which connects OKW to Down Town Disney . A free shuttle boat runs between the two from the dock by the Hospitality House approximately every twenty minutes .
There are also four pools around the resort for those wishing to do a little swimming before visiting Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach for water park fun.

During our visit we did see renovation being carried out on several buildings in the resort and also saw more renovation in the Magic Kingom. This was mainly due to the time of year we travelled as they prepare for the main rush later in the year and they did try to keep any inconvenience to a minimum.

We would not hesitate to recommend this resort and are already planning our next visit.

Room Tip: Top floor has no running children above it Ground floor is best if you have mobility problems

We stayed here in August 2012 for 4 nights and loved it. It has a feel of Disney quality but with not too much in your face Disney features so that you feel that can escape away from the brilliant madness of the parks. The man pool is great and the fact you can get to downtown Disney on the boat is a real plus.
The rooms are big, clean, we'll equipped and light and airy.

This is a big resort so ask for a room in a block close to hospitality house, especially if you are using the busses.

This is. Laid back place. Enjoy!

Our family of 5 stayed in a 2 bedroom villa in February. There was a huge amount of room to spread out. The master bedroom was large, with a huge ensuite. My 7 year old loved the whirlpool tub in the ensuite. The second bedroom had 2 queen beds, a regular closet and a walk-in closet. There was a full bath in the second bedroom and an extra vanity outside of the bathroom. This was a perfect set up for adults sharing the second bedroom.
The main living area was huge with a fully equipped kitchen. We did not have to purchase any extra kitchen utensils as everything was in working order and available in our villa. Loved the extra hutch area near the dining table for beverages, snacks and to plug in all of our electronics.
We really felt like we were at home with all of the extra comforts. The full laundry room was amazing and super convenient for use after long days at the parks. The villa was a great place for grandparents to relax while we were at the parks. We had a lovely terrace that looked out onto the golf course.
We were in building 51, which is far from the main buildings, but we loved having access to 2 quiet pools. We could easily walk to the South Point pool or the Turtle Pond pool. The South point pool was very quiet and relaxing while the Turtle Pond pool offered a quick service snack shack and music. It was a little more busy. We rented a car and used that to go to the main pool which had a great waterslide but the bus stop was super close to our villa so we could have used the bus to access the main pool as well.
Overall, we loved this resort because it never appeared busy like the value and moderate resorts. It is spread out but that aides in the charm. The theming is very relaxing and represents Florida well. This is a great resort for a family vacation with mult-generations.

Room Tip: Try to stay near a bus stop because if you are far from the main buildings you can use any bus to ge...

Stayed here 8th Feb to 17th Feb. It was great, We had a 1 bedroomed Villa for 4 adults and 1 child and there was ample room. Washing Machine and Dryer, Dishwasher, Jacuzzi bath, it was absolutely faultless.

We were in building 63, not far from the hospitality centre, which was one of the ones we requested so was very grateful we got our request. The villa was spotleesly clean and overlooked the golf course in a beautiful setting.

Our daily maid service was like a fairy godmother. If we left pots she put them in dishwasher and put it on for us.

The resort is quite a a relief after a day at the parks and there is allsorts going on to keep the little ones happy. We hired a boat and went to downtown Disney which was great. Lifeguards going up and down in speedboats checking there are no mishaps. Ferry to Downtown Disney is really handy and a pleasant trip.

Would certainly return and use the transportation instead of driving everywhere.

My husband and I stayed here for our 10th anniversary since we we were having dinner at Victoria and Alberts. The resort is very nice, but it is VERY large, so you probably want to ask for a room near the main pool, or be prepared to do a lot of walking.

Activities - There is a lot of fun stuff to do here. We rented a boat and road over to Downtown Disney. Very fun. The main pool is nice, but it was SUPER crowded. The resort itself is beautiful and well decorated.

Food - There is a bar (and it's good), a sit down place (we didn't try it), and a quick service place.

Housekeeping - This was the low point of our trip. They came about 20 minutes before check out time while we were finishing up loading the car (we were pretty hung over from Victoria and Alberts). They attempted to make us leave early and actually argued the check out time with us for a minute! Unacceptable behavior, They were the only rude people we encountered here though.

Location- You can't walk to any of the parks. You can take a boat to Downtown Disney, but that's not usually a priority.

Rooms - Nice, but not very "Disney" - there is a lot of space though.

If you can get a good rate and you like water activites , it's worth staying here.

My entire family - me, husband, three adult children, two spouses, a girlfriend, and two granddaughters all went to Disney World at Thanksgiving. We stayed at Disney's Old Key West Resort. We had stayed here in 1999 when it was just the 5 of us. It was a fantastic trip and I love everything about Disney, but the Old Key West has good and bad things about it. It is big and spacious. Because there were so many of us, the added space was great. But, the distance from everything makes it a bit difficult when you have that amount of people wanting to come and go to the various parks and restaurants that Disney has to offer.

Room Tip: If you stay here, ask for a room that is close to a bus stop or to the main building.

We stayed in a one bedroom villa, and it was so cozy, comfortable, and well decorated. For me, a huge part of having a great vacation is staying in lovely surroundings, no matter where we go. And I could imagine actually living at Old Key West in our little cottage forever. There was a beautiful pink tree blooming right outside our balcony, a lovely view outside, and flowers galore in February. We JUST LOVED IT! It is very true that you will need to walk at this resort. We are all in great health, so it wasn't a problem. I took several walks around the property and just fell more in love with the place each time. You will also need to use the Disney bus system extensively if you stay at this resort, but we never waited more than 15 minutes for any park we wanted to visit or any evening when we wanted to go home. My husband and I travelled with our 5-1/2 year old son, and the two went swimming (in February) in the large pool with a really fast waterslide. My son couldn't wipe the grin off his face. Honestly, we could have just stayed at this resort the whole time and relaxed (it had an incredibly laid back and relaxing atmosphere), although we spent most of our days at the theme parks. You can rent bikes at the community center, they have beach parties each day at the pool, crafts for the kids each evening, community movies, etc. We didn't have time to experience all that Old Key West had to offer, sadly! I will say that we ended up eating a delightful lunch at Whispering Canyons in Wilderness Lodge, and Wilderness Lodge may have been a bit more kid friendly than our resort. Old Key West would probably be more suited to adults visiting Disney, but our son didn't seem to care. The only downside to having such a wonderful and memorable vacation is the after-vacation depression that hits when you leave. I wouldn't change a thing about Old Key West Resort or our vacation there.

Room Tip: The one bedroom villa was outstanding. I highly recommend splurging on that. Also, it is best to be...
