“Large, lush property offers a quiet retreat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013

If you're looking for a quiet retreat after a busy day in the parks, you'll find it at Old Key West. This was my second stay at this lovely property. Our two-bedroom villa (Building 48) was a bit of a hike from the main building, pool, and drink station for those refillable mugs - but no matter - we were a stone's throw from the bus stop (and that's a big deal as there are five stops within this resort.) Our villa was well-equipped and well maintained. Noise was never an issue and we had neighbors all around us. The master bedroom had a king sized bed, doorway to patio, and huge bathroom with jacuzzi tub. The second bedroom - also large - had two full beds and its own full bathroom with a separate vanity just outside. Lovely patio overlooked the golf course. The washer/dryer was very handy. Kitchen has everything you could want to prepare meals if you so choose. Main pool area is very nice - although seating is at a premium. There's a small gym with very basic equipment -- a treadmill, weights, bikes - for those looking for a light workout. You can take a boat to Downtown Disney from this property and it's a lovely, relaxing ride. Olivia's Cafe is nice for breakfast but the outdoor snack bar food is substandard. You can rent bikes here or just sit in the hot tub and relax after a busy day in the parks.

Room Tip: Check the resort map and book your room accordingly. Some rooms/buildings are a long walk from the...

We (2 adults + 2 teenagers) stayed in a Two Bedroom Villa at Disney's Old Key West the last week of January. It was very spacious and beyond our expectations! It was very clean, came with plenty of clean towels and wash rags. Fully stocked kitchen with dishes, silverware, cookware, wine glasses and bottle opener. Some sugar packets, creamers, and a couple coffee filter packs were included. But if you are a coffee drinker you may want to bring additional, order some, or purchase at the resorts gift store as they only refill the supply on certain days during your stay. We made one pot every morning and there were only two pkgs at the onset of our stay if that gives you an idea. We only had to purchase one additional pkg for our stay. Dish soap, dishwasher and laundry detergent (1 load box) were included as well. We ordered groceries a couple days prior to arrival at gardengrocer.com and it was waiting at bell services when we arrived. Everything was kept cold/frozen that needed to be. On the ride to the resort I received a text message saying it had been delivered and to ask at bell services for my order. We were on the second floor and had a balcony with table/chairs that faced the water way and it was gorgeous! We visited the Disney parks as well as Universal Studios. Disney Transportation was FANTASTIC! They tell you up front that the buses and ferry run about every 20 minutes and we found that to be extremely accurate! They run even quicker during their busier hours. We never waited longer than 15-20 minutes for any kind of transporation. We were walking to the bus stop nearest our building and saw the Magic Kingdom bus drive by us. We waited 15 minutes and the next bus for Magic Kingdom was there. We used Disney Express transportation to and from the airport and it was GREAT! On time, loaded/unloaded our suitcases, watched television on the ride. We used MEARS transportation to go to and from Universal and that was a good experience. Universal and MEARS are NOT affiliated with Disney. We went to Orlanda and visited Disney parks, etc. about 10 years ago and stayed off Disney property. PLEASE, PLEASE listen when I tell you it is so worth the "extra" money (if that is the case) to stay on Disney property and use their transportation, especially if you have kids. It makes it so much nicer, less stressful, and more relaxing. This Disney Resort and the Disney transportation services have EXCELLENT customer service that compares to no other!

Old Key West Resort is an excellent choice for families visiting the Disney parks. One, two and three bedroom villas include nice-sized living areas, a full kitchen, laundry room, 2 bathrooms (in 2-3 BR villas), and fenced patios or balconies. Transportation to the parks is frequent and very convenient. One suggestion--try not to stay in one of the villas near the Hospitality Center. It is the last bus stop and guests often find the bus full when it stops there. Villas in the 30-50 buildings are the 2nd stop, while those in the 20's are the 1st stop. The resort does an excellent job of providing ways to entertain children who have a long wait after check-out and before their departing flights. Playgrounds, swimming pools (with water slides), movies, and craft activities are all available near the Hospitality House. And, if the little ones need to be cleaned up before the flight, there are showers and a laundry room available as well. The only downside I would mention is the exhobitant cost of supplies in the General Store. $8 a six-pack for soft drinks?! Overall, a good choice. We have also stayed at Saratoga Springs and found it comparable although just a tiny bit further away from the parks.

Room Tip: Buildings 30-50 for good transportation options.

This hotel was perfect for family, we are all adults with no kids. The suite was so perfect for what we needed- a beautiful place to relax after spending a long day in the theme parks. The transportation to the parks was easy to use and the restaurant was great. I loved the Old Key West feel. We would highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room closer to the main lobby as it could be a bit of a walk/bus ride if you are further a...

We stayed at OKW the week before Christmas, in a 2 bedroom villa. It was spacious and clean. When I arrived, I realized that I forgot a swimming suit for my 2 year old. Because there wasn't the right sized suit in the OKW gift shop (and I didn't have a car), a member of the OKW staff drove me to the gift shop in Saratoga Springs, waited for me to purchase the suit and dropped me back at my room. As soon as my 2 year old woke up from her nap, we could swim! Such fantastic service.

We stayed near a quiet pool (not the main pool) and could swim and lounge with Christmas carols in the background. It was so relaxing. The bus service to the theme parks was frequent. We also took a boat back from Downtown Disney, which was nice.

A wonderful experience!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Old Turtle Bay area and liked it. It is near the back of the resort.

We spent christmas at disneys old key west resort. We are dvc members and our home resort is Saratoga springs resort but my new favorite is old key west. The villas are larger and there is some much more room. The staff is great and friendly, very accommodating. He grounds and main areas are well maintained.

My only issue was on the last day my daughter was very ill with the flu and we had a late flight out that night. I asked for someplace for MY daughter to rest and because they were booked they could not help me. It was cold the day we left so I was left to wrap her up in blankets and have her lay in a lounge chair all day sick. As.a DVC member I was disappointed that they could not help me in anyway.

All in all it was a great vacation and resort to stay at during the holidays,

I have grown up at Old Key West Florida, I’ve stayed there probably over 30 times and I’m going back this fall for my honeymoon. I absolutely love the resort and their timely manner to help their guests. Each stay, they welcome me home with a touch of magic, be it Mickey ears, Caribbean outfits, or balloons that spell out ‘Welcome Home’. Just about anywhere on the resort offers a great place to stay, whether you are close to a pool, golf course outlook, or bus stop to the parks. I also enjoy the activity options they have located within the gates. They provide a safe option for visitors to relax by the pool, play staff lead games, go to an activity center, eat at their café or Olivia’s, or just take a paddle boat down the river. Transportation is also something they provide right in the resort gates including buses that will take you to the parks or Downtown Disney and ferries to the Disney Village. If you are a family that is looking for a few options for room sizes with an open layout design this is a great place. Each room has its own front door and feels much like a condo. It brings with it nice privacy and an easy location for anywhere you would like to go.
