“Excellent Stay - Highly Recommended”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

We have just returned from 12 nights at Waldorf Astoria Orlando and have the following comments to help you.

We would / will definitely return......

Positive :-

Value of location & high luxury level compared to Disney hotels - A++++

Service and staff attitude excellent.

Bull & Bear - awesome steak restaurant, top notch.

Room service - staff excellent and very friendly, food superb (apart from late night turkey sandwich). Club sandwich was one of the best I have had :)

Access to restaurants in Hilton adjoining, downstairs one was particularly good for a casual lunch overlooking pool area.

Swimming pools and lazy river / slides in adjoining Hilton.

Great view of Disney parks and fireworks.

Deluxe room size was good (shame no balcony).

Cleanliness excellent.

Needs Improvement (relatively minor niggles, did not spoil the experience) :-

Having to purchase rubber rings for lazy river at Hilton for 2 uses.

Paying $10 to receive a package at the Fedex business centre - should be free to guests via concierge, nothing to do with business conferences.

Having to walk a long way to collect my parcel from the business centre - 3 times. Should be delivered to room.

Not being notified of the $24 cost of valet parking on arrival (although I suspected this and self-parked after the first day).

Our room key never opening the self-park barrier, even after reporting it, having to push the help buttons many times to get in and out - 8 times on 1 occassion late at night, also the mannerism and politeness of the staff asnwering the intercom needs to be improved.

Some information from the Concierge regarding park opening hours, parades, fireworks etc. was not correct.

Body wash not replaced regularly enough by housekeeping, shampoo etc. always was though ...

Turkey sandwich on room service, needs changing to shaved / wafer thin turkey :)

Room Tip: Book Disney view on high floor to see the Epcot & Disney fireworks

This is a very lovely hotel. Lots of marble, fancy light fixtures ,details . However my opinion of a hotel is mostly based on the room. Whoever designed the rooms obviously was not thinking very well. The safe was at the floor, a first for any hotel I've ever stayed in. Having knee problems this made using the safe quite a challenge . Many people in our group could not use the safe at all for the same reason. There was one drawer under the TV ,two in the nightstand and four shelves under the coffee bar. I unpack at hotels and do not live out of my suitcase. This arrangement was not at all convenient or substantial . The closet was also quite small. For a new hotel it is hard to believe they could not have designed this one better. I like a functional room. Definitely was lacking. Dark in bathroom ,and above coffee bar. On a rainy day only place for lunch was the Peacock Lounge. They are not very well equipped to serve food. Items requested ,ie condiments, took forever to arrive. Staff was very friendly. On Thursday we ate all our meals at the Waldorf and experienced stomach upset all day Friday.Definitely would not rate this a five star hotel. So many choices in the Orlando,Disney area. Woulda not choose to stay here. We were four nights and my back ached from the soft mattress.

Great for golfers, close to Disney action, but not as luxurious as you might expect coming from the Waldorf Astoria. Excellent steak restaurant and room service. Watch the billing to make sure you are credited for any incentive programs that you were to receive. Mediocre pool, but who cares with Disney so nearby.

My father-in-law won a romantic getaway for airfare, 2 night stay & massages at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando & gave the prize to us to use. My husband and I have an 11 month old and since it said romantic getaway our in laws generously volnteered to watch him for the trip. We took a Mear shuttle from the airport to the hotel which was reasonably priced.

The property is within the Disney complex & the shuttle stopped at the neighboring Hilton before dropping us off. After seeing the Hilton, the exterior of the Waldorf Astoria was unimpressive. After you enter the main doors though, you enter the lobby which is all marble & very nice with windows overlooking the pool.

Turns out the Hilton & Waldorf Astoria are connected to a Convention Center and from inside you can walk between all three. You are also welcome to use the Hilton property, including the pool area which is more kid-friendly & includes a lazy river. I'm not sure if you were supposed to bring your own pool float, can borrow, rent, or have to buy them to use.

The Waldorf Astoria pool was very nice and had excellent service. The young woman who took food/drink orders was very prompt, attentive, and was able to get me an umbrella when I started to burn. We tipped her generously for her help.

We had dinner at the Bull & Bear and it was extremely disappointing. My husband and I eat out all of the time. We ordered the seafood tower for two that included just enough shellfish for one, at $30 per person. What a waste of money! The steak and mushrooms were delicious. Don't bother ordering the cheesecake though, because it was some kind of frozen & thawed version of the real thing with a layer of jellyish fruit on the bottom similiar to what you get at Costco's frozen section. The wait staff was extremely attentive here as well.

The spa was beautiful, but our massages were akin to rubbing lotion on ourselves and the deep tissue massage didn't loosen my muscles at all. If you do go to the spa, come early to use the hot tub & steam sauna. I wish there were more magazines available in the waiting area.

The buffet breakfast was delicious and well worth the money. Unfortunately, as tends to be the case with buffet breakfasts, we over ate, but it was only because there were so many options - crepes, omelets, fresh meats & cheeses. The next day we walked to the Hilton & had a muffin from the coffee shop instead.

Since we didn't have our son with us we had no interest in going to Disney or any of the amusement parks. Instead we took the hotel shuttle to Downtown Disney. It was nice to walk among the touristy shops & have some ice cream. They have musicians playing outdoors, and as a New Yorker with snow on the ground at home, it was a thrill to be outdoors comfortably enjoying the weather & music.

In Downtown Disney they had a Dine-in Movie Theater. As I mentioned we have an 11 month old so haven't been to a movie in a year. We saw "This is 40" which is a current movie in theaters and had beer & burgers. The burgers were surprisingly good!

It's wonderful that you and your husband had an opportunity to get away and come stay with us. It's nice to hear that most of your stay was enjoyable and that the breakfast buffet was a good option for you. I regret that your dinner experience with us wasn't all that you expected and we're sharing your feedback with our culinary team. Please come back and see us for a lovely stay.

I'm here for a conference and am exited that I get to say at the Waldorf. As a New Yorker never thought this would happen. Only criticism is that it has a conference center and is attached to Hilton next door. If I was here with my family I'm not sure I would like that. The restaurant is crowded with conventioneers but pool area is fine from what I can see. As our conference is ending another is coming in so ask about that when you make a reservation, if you think this will bother you. Very good service

An amazing hotel. First class all the way. The beds were fabulous--excellent nights sleep. Food was great. The hotel is a expensive but well worth it if you want a high end experience. I would stay there again.
