After 6 hectic, crowded and rushed days at Disney, the Hard Rock Hotel and Universal/IOA was just the way to keep up the enthusiasm and still wind down a wonderful vacation. We stayed here February 17-21, 2004 and the only problem was with the weather! Gorgeous hotel, great memorabilia, friendly staff, nice clean rooms. When checking in, the clerk said that since we were Lowe's First members she would normally upgrade our room, however the hotel was full that weekend. (It is very easy to enroll in Lowe's First. Just check the Lowe's website.) And since we are from Seattle, we were pleased to see the Starbucks downstairs after not seeing one for the entire previous week! Another tip -- after 2 days and several large coffee's later -- we were told that refills are free! So be sure and keep your cup away from housekeeping every morning when you leave! The best part of all is the short 5 minute walk to the parks with no need to rush. Going to the front of the line is priceless. You can do a ride 3 times in 15 minutes while everyone else waits 45 minutes. We kept saying "This just isn't right!" We will definitely be staying here again! Enjoy!

We arrived on a Monday evening with reservations, but the hotel had no record or information about our arrival. We waited for at least 45 minutes until they just gave us a room, and said they would figure it out in the morning. The front desk staff person was blase and uninterested in doing anything to help us, and moved very slowly. The room was very nice, the hotel is quiet upstairs, and we stayed 4 nights with no problems. The one thing that is the "DEAL BREAKER" is that we called the front desk, requested a 5 AM wake-up call for the next morning for our early flight out of town. Nobody called us and we woke up too late to make the plane!!!! We got silent stares as we told the desk staff on the way out!! Unbelieveable!!! If you like the Loew's properties, I recommend the Portofino across the street.

We booked this trip with NJTravel. We visited the Hard Rock Jan. 1-4, 2004. We went during the holiday season. We had a standard room. Staying at one of the Universal properties is the only way to see Uiversal Studios. NO waiting at all and we could walk to everything. The hotel was nice, but a little nosey, because they have music piped in everywhere. The pool is fabulous. The food prices are NOT outrageous either. Our travel agent gave us the details ahead of time, so we knew what to do.

We booked a flight/hotel package with Expedia on a non-holiday weekend in January arriving late Friday and leaving early Tuesday. The kids (11 and 13) had a couple days off from school for teacher training. We arranged over the internet for a car to meet us at the airport and bring us back to the airport several days later for $80 roundtrip. The car will make a stop on the way to the hotel if you want to buy milk, cereal, snacks, etc (so you aren't tempted to buy stuff in the room fridge). I think the car service is cheaper for a family of four than the Mears shuttle and about the same as a taxi. Of course a trip to Orlando is for the kids. My wife and I weren't expecting great things.
We were worried about too many kids, too much noise, small rooms and poor service. Expecially since we were arriving late (we'll get the last room in the hotel?). But our 3rd floor room was quiet (at the end of the hall away from elevators made for long walks but a quiet room), clean and roomy. The roll-a-way was provided soon after we checked in.
The weather was great, we swam all three days, played volleyball, had fun in the water slide, and watched our kids play basketball in the pool for a long time. Universal Theme Park and Islands of Adventure were great and the express pass means you never wait in line. The Bob Marley restaurant at City Walk had great spicy Jamaican food. Prices at the pool restaurant at the hotel were reasonable, and there's a market/store in the hotel where you can buy pastries, cereal, etc. You can walk by the canal to Portofino or the theme parks, or take the (free) water taxi. We were lucky to visit when the hotel and parks weren't crowded. And we had great weather. But it's a cool place. I even opened my eyes a few times on the Hulk. Orlando may be virtual, sort of like being in the matrix, but it was a great vacation.

Ok i would first like to say that i am an average guy with average expectations and also i have a family, and pride myself on my honesty, and have been to a lot of very good hotels and some not so good, but with hand on my heart the two previous reviews before this one are total and i really do mean total garbage. I stayed at this hotel not so long ago and it was immaculate ,expensive but immaculate the rooms were not only clean and tidy they were luxury with the most comfortable bed i have ever come accross in a hotel, everything in the hotel was absolutely fantastic ,the pool was the best i have ever been in so classy and relaxing ,not deep but as i just said relaxing and classy which pretty much summed up the whole hotel, as for the staff most were spanish american , now where ever you go in america you are expected to tip , to think other wise is to say the least very nieve , and the staff in the hotel did expect a tip BUT YOU SHOW ME AN AMERICAN THAT DOSENT, now the staff were not rude they were just ... how shall i put this ..JUST AMERICANS its their culture , i mean you have to bare one thing in mind this is probably one of orlandos top hotels and if the staff were not up to scratch they would be out of a job but they are up to scratch believe me. Now the location of this hotel is brilliant its a stones throw away from city walk " a out of this world place" which has islands of adventure and universal studios in its grounds . When we whent to this hotel it was at the begining of september and my little boy who is eleven had just two other children round about his own age to play with while we were there ,but that was to be expected because the kids were back to school by that time , and besides he had so much fun with myself and my wife visiting all the theme parks he dident care ,but the point i am trying to make is that to suggest the hard rock hotel is over run with screaming kids is a joke , the atmosphere to this hotel is relaxed and modern .Now i will just rap up this review by simply saying this hotel is not cheap, america is not cheap , i saved up for three years to afford this holiday for my family for that one off luxury experience and it was well worth it , and if you can afford this hotel and america in genral go for it you wont regret it , but on the other hand you really are trying to do the whole thing on a budget and are reluctant to tip . Forget it there are plenty of places in this world alot cheaper than orlando YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!
