We went to the HRH because it was one of the hotels on-site at Universal. Most of our friends and family had stayed at portofino in the past so we were experimenting on the basis of reviews here and elsewhere. We had a great time, although admittedly our stay of a couple of days was spent mostly out of the hotel at the attractions.
The stay was also improved by a complimentary upgrade because the first room offered wasn't what we had reserved. The room-key is great for letting you skip the queues at the attractions and for paying in shops and restaurants. A couple of days is about the longest we could have stayed - once you've done the rides to death and once even the Hulk has lost some of its oomph, you really need to get 'off campus' to other restaurants and shops. But while we were there, it was a fun place, piped music, donuts and CDs, live band performances in the lobby, biggest arcade games room I've seen in a hotel, great memorabilia and decent restaurants. If we were to go with kids to Universal, we might well consider staying there again. Self-parking is handy, the staff were very helpful and cheery and the rooms were cleaned and comfy.More
