“For Location, the Hard Rock @ Universal Orlando Rocks!”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

If you want a great hotel at a great location for Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure in Orlando Fl., this is the Hotel to be at! It's a short boat ride to the entrances of both parks and if you prefer walking, it's close as well. By staying at the Hard Rock, you get a chance to enter the parks 1 hour earlier than the public; for you Harry Potter fans, this is great since the wait time with the public crowd can be over an hour long! The Hard Rock is situated between their two other hotels, the Portofino & the Lowes Royal Pacific. The Hard Rock is conveniently located in the middle so getting to Citywalk and the parks is easy. The Hotel itself is a beautifully designed building reminiscent of an old Mission style building but with Rock & Roll memorabilia. If you are lucky enough to be staying during their Velvet Session weeks, you may be able to see throwback bands like Spin Doctors, Bret Michaels or Flock of Seagulls who were there performing during our stay.

If you have kids, we stayed in the kids suite which was roomy but small enough to keep an eye on the kids. It has a large entrance that leads to the kingsize bed and the sitting area. The next section is the kids room that has two doors that can be closed if you want to watch TV late at night and don't want to wake them up. The bathroom has two sections. One section has the toilet and a small sink and a tub/shower. The other section is a separate bathroom with double sinks and a shower stall. Both sections are accessible by two doors that connect our bedroom and the kids room so all have access via different entrances. These rooms book fast so I suggest booking early.

Every Sunday by the pool, the hotel has two performers/DJ's/Dancer/MC that do everything from getting the pool crowd up and dancing to Hoola Hoop competitions between boys & girls and men & women all while listening to current and past music. The kids and most adults look forward to it; at least we do when we stay at the Hotel.

Their food options are good as well. You have The Kitchen which serves buffet or ala carte options and Emack & Bolio, a Massachusetts based ice cream company that specializes in a wide variety of high-end ice cream. Eating at the hotel can add up but if you get one of their Bed & Breakfast deals with your stay, it works out great. They have a kids breakfast deal as well. You can get the kids breakfast for 50% off what they would charge you at the restaurant if you pre-pay it at the front desk. The food options are immense so there's a wide variety to choose from.

Overall, it's a great hotel that treats all guests with style at a decent price. And if you want convenience to Universal Parks, this is the place to stay at! Can't wait for the return trip!

Room Tip: Kids suite ideal for families so book it fast!

I travel for business all over the world and stay in 4-5 star hotels in every country - I think I have seen the best service there is. That's why I wonder how people can rate this hotel as a 4 star property - is it because of size? ambience? people don't get out enough??

It's a big, pretty hotel - and my 3 boys loved the ambience. They thought it was cool. But, I would never stay at this property for the price we paid except for the fact we had those fast passes, early admission to the park and the easy walk to and fro. I guess because I travel often, I want a clean hotel room, and if the hotel gets such good ratings - then it should be in perfect condition. I would choose any Disney property over this hotel any day.

So, cool doesn't cut it for me. How about - empty our trash can every day (not once over a 4 day stay); clean the bathroom every day - don't just wipe it down and put in some new towels. Clean the hair, dirt and dust away before I arrive. Beds were comfortable enough (my husband said too hard for him), and linens fluffy - but the bedspreads and decorative pillows were really gross, threadbare and almost oily - time to refresh. The air con never dropped below 73 and was pretty loud - the rooms never really got cool enough - once 4 people took showers, the whole room was foggy. We had a really long walk to the elevators. Rooms are a good size for 4 people and we never felt crowded - bathrooms are well laid out with a separate area for toilet and shower - but this shower area is really tight and you have to squeeze around the door to shut it.

Kids loved the pool because the life guard didn't pay any attention to them jumping and going down the slide backwards - so, boys will be boys. The general outside area is well maintained and very pretty.

Boat ride over was very nice and very quick.

It's ridiculous to have to pay for parking every day when you are a guest!

The Kitchen restaurant is excellent and portions are huge - food is pricey - you can share portions and save some money.

Check in was a little slow, but the bell service was very friendly and helpful.

But all other things aside - our park experience was fantastic because of the fast passes - but this isn't why people should give the hotel a good rating - the hotel is mediocre - don't be fooled by the first impression - this hotel desperately needs an update for the price you pay to stay.

the Hard Rock had it all. Loved the comfy bed, cocktails by the pool, easy access to the parks via free water taxis, express passes, We stayed on 7th floor concierge level, but didn't really take advantage of the service as not a fan of queueing.

Experience of this hotel was a nice friendly hotel, we stayed on the 7th floor of this hotel which is concierge level not alot of non americans know about (simply because tompson do not have any rooms on this level)

While its concierge you get breakfast, lunch dinner and snacks, saves you a fortune in kids drinks so always ask for concierge level if you phone the hotel, also book a room then add ppl on the flights as you can fit as many ppl as they allow, thompson will charge you more when all you need is the flight.

We did not see any thompson rep considering we where on a fly drive and there where roadworks which meant you had to have a dollar in coinage for a toll, which is impossible to obtain, so we had to go through the toll.

we had the car parked as valet and very helpful and friendly the staff where, the hotel was kept nice and clean and very close to universal and disneyland

the pool in the hotel was nice and used to show films of a night

would I go back almost certainly

We absolutely loved this hotel, both my wife and I are fans of Hard Rock (music and brand). I vividly remember after checking in; going down to the guitar shaped pool, beer in hand and as we walked outside 'dude looks like a lady' by Aerosmith was being pump out of all speakers - even under water.... itwas a very cool introduction to a top hotel!
